I started a topic about this project in the private Council section. Since this has become an official project of the forum, the Council will participate in the planning.

Mentor Manager will be a staff title, unless the Council thinks otherwise. I personally don't have a problem with it being a staff title. The only argument against it being a staff title is that the job, once the plan is ready, will be very easy. All you need to do basically is to match a Newbie and a Mentor. But I guess if we get many Newbies, then it might be a bit more work.

Listing Mentors in order based on post count might not be a good idea. I think that anyone who meets the requirements, should be given a chance to participate. Otherwise it sends out the "you suck as a Mentor which is why everyone else gets their Newbie before you" message.

Also letting Newbies pick their Mentors is a bad idea and can be exploited to get award icons. It should be random, or based on some predetermined list (not one based on post count).

 i might just use an rng to pick a a mentor thats available whenever we get a new apprentice. so that takes out the cap and just makes it one big mentor pool. i would of course have to find and rng but thats what google is for

Mentor choice should be based on the relative timezones of the players, or more specifically, when they have time available. I think it would be beneficial for them to be arranged so that they're both on at the same time if possible.

This is definitely the best way to do it imo, they can then communicate with relative ease and the process will be as fast as possible.

Why not just think of it like a little shop that sells Newbies. You go inside, get at the end of the line, and when your turn comes, you get your own Newbie.

First come first served.

This would remove all the unnecessary steps like randomizing lists. You just pick the name on top of the list and it's done.

Out of curiosity, what about people that work hard to recruit only to have that new recruit passed on to someone else? I hang out on Kong quite a bit and try to shift people over here when I can. Most of the time I tend to build a rapport with those people and it would be sort of awkward to build that rapport only to have someone else finish what I started. If it's a matter of abuse for awards that's an issue, why not make it so in order for new recruits to count towards the reward those new recruits have to reach the "jr." status of at least 30+ posts?
