Phase 2 - The Battle Round

The rules for this phase are quite detailed, so be sure to read through them all carefully.

Game Structure:

Each player will play 24 games:

A player will not play more than nine games vs. a single opponent.
12 in-element games will be distributed evenly across in-element opponents (Challengers in an element with a defending master will play against that Master in addition to the other challengers in that element).
12 off-element games will be distributed evenly across off-element opponents.
Off-element matches will be vs the same off-element(s) for each element.

In-Element Match Ban Rules:

Per the specifications below, everyone sends a list via a forum PM to both Trials Overseers. Any card that gets two or more votes gets banned for all players in that Element (this rule applies the same to shards as it does to normal cards). If you do not send in a list a list will be randomized by the Trials Overseers. Any missing or illegal bans will be randomized by a TrO using EtG chat dice.

The participants of the Trials of Aether will forum PM their bans to Physsion only. Likewise, the participants of the Trials of Darkness will forum PM their bans to Zawadx only.

Pillars/Pends may not be banned. Putting down a pillar/pend will result in a random ban. (note: mark-cards are considered pillars and thus cannot be banned).
Your list should contain 3 or 6 shards you wish to ban, and 1 or 2 NON-SHARD card(s) per element, including your in-element, but excluding other. (the number depends on the number of participants in their Trial)

If there are 4 participants, everyone sends in a list with 3 shards and one card per element.
If there are 3 participants, everyone sends in a list with 3 shards and one card per element. The Trials Overseers will provide a list to supplement the player provided lists
If there are 2 participants, each person sends in a list with 6 shards and two cards per element. These cards may not be the same (IE: You cannot send in discord/discord for entropy). If you do, both are randomized.
If there is 1 participant, They will send in a list with 6 shards and two cards per element. These cards may not be the same (IE: You cannot send in discord/discord for entropy). The Trials Overseers will provide a list to supplement the player provided list

Off-Element Game Specific Rules:

Masters will only play against other Masters in off-element games, and challengers will only play against other challengers in off-element games.
Opponent specific bans will be determined as follows:

Before playing each off element opponent, you and your opponent select a ban-arbitrator who is in neither yours nor your opponent's element. You then pm him 3 shards and 3 non-shard cards. These cards are banned for both you and your opponent for all games you play against each other.
The ban-arbitrator should be a Trials Overseer if one is available.

If not a TrO, please have the ban arbitrator PM the Challengers' names and the banned cards for their games to the TrOs

You may only ban 1 non-shard card from your opponent's element, and it may not be a creature.
You may ban both your opponent's in-element shard and another (non-creature) card from their element
Because Alchemy Cards and Nymphs are interchangeable per Deck Building Rules above, Alchemy Cards of your opponent's in-element cannot be banned in off-element duels because that would constitute banning an in-element creature for your opponent

Deckbuilding Rules:

Decks may be of any size.
You may use any mark.
Deck must be at least 40% in element rounded up (including pillars/pends).
Your deck may NOT contain more cards of any off-element than it does of your in-element.
Your deck must contain at least 25% off element cards (rounded down) unless it is your once per match all in-element deck (This is a total of all off-element cards, not a 25% requirement for each individual off element).
"Other" Cards are considered off-Element for all elements
Mark cards are treated as pillars of the element whose quanta they produce for all deckbuilding rules
Using a Pillar/Pendulum/Mark-card counts as using the Element that Pillar/Pendulum/Mark-card belongs to. Using a Quantum Pillar counts as using the "Other" Element.
Any Banned cards are banned in both their upgraded and unupgraded forms.
Any Banned Nymphs/Alchemy cards means the corresponding Alchemy Card/Nymph is also banned (and bans submitted for either will be totaled together).
You may only use upgraded cards per your Tasks in Phase 1.
You may only use off-elements per your Tasks in Phase 1.
You may use your in-element cards regardless of whether or not your element was included in your Tasks in Phase 1.

Deck Checker:
The talented Fippe94 has put together a Deck Checker tool to use with Trials. You can use this to make sure your Phase 2 decks are legal - bear in mind that as everyone has different upgrade allowances, this tool will not account for those.

Game Rules:

In the event of a desync, the players should play it out vs the AI on both sides

If the same player wins in both "games", they are considered the winner of that game.
If the two "games" result in wins for different players, the game is voided, and players may not switch decks before the next game.

If it is obvious that a game will never end (e.g. if both players have zero net damage output -- where they can both heal off the damage done each turn easily -- and will never deck out, and both players have no means of breaking the stalemate), that game voided, and players may switch decks prior to the next game.
Voided games do not count towards Elements used.
In the event an illegal deck is used in any game (whether that game was voided at the time of the match or not) the user of the illegal deck will be given a loss for that game (and their opponent a win).
Losing access to the Elements the Game during a game (refreshing the tab, clicking on ad that isn't a popup type, closing the tab/window/browser/computer, power outage, pet elephant stepping on your computer ect) counts as a loss (a win for your opponent) for that game.

Elements Choice Rules:

Your element pool will include and your unlocks from Phase 1 tasks.
All appearances of your in-element in you element pool is replaced by . If you use the off-element in a game, you MUST use 6+ elements in your deck (excluding Other). However, these elements are not consumed from your element pool. All other Phase 2 rules stand (so you must have at least 40% in-element, minimum 25% off-element etc.)
You may use each off-element in Phase 2 once per appearance of that Element in your Element pool. This same element pool goes for both in-element and off-element matches.
"Other" is considered an off element, but may be used an unlimited number of times in Phase 2
You may only use one all in-element 'mono' deck per opponent. This deck may NOT use off-element cards
After every game, you must tell your opponent what elements you used in the previous game, but you should not share decklists or specific cards.
If you run out of elements to use against a single opponent, the rest of your games against that opponent count are forfeit, and your opponent receives wins for those games.
If both players run out of elements at the same time, the rest of the games are voided.

Rules regarding forfeits and Stand-ins:

In the event of an Element with 1 participant or 2 participant, stand-ins will be used for all games needed past the maximum possible amongst the participants.

For in-element games, the stand-in or stand-ins will abide by all the in-element rules for that element, including that element's in-element duel ban list
Stand-ins will be considered to have completed Waging War (Against the False Gods), Beginning War Training, and Developing War Tactics
Stand-ins will have unlocked and
Stand-ins will be able to use up to 4 upgraded spell cards, 4 upgraded creature cards and 3 upgraded cards of any type in each deck
In-element stand-in opponents are considered a single opponent
So regardless of the number of stand-ins used against a single player, those stand-ins cannot re-use off-elements used by previous stand-ins against that player
And that player may not re-use off elements against a stand-in they previously used against another stand-in

If any player leaves the event with unplayed games, the TrOs will find a stand-in opponent to play that player's remaining games

For off-element games, the stand-in will use the unlocks available to the person who left the event, and will abide by the bans made against that opponent if bans were already determined. Otherwise, the stand-in and their opponent will determine bans normally per the rules

After Matches and Scoring:

Every player should post a topic in the TRIAL BATTLE RESULTS SECTION, titled :[Trials 9 - Phase 2] [yourElement] YourName # Wins - # Losses (e.g. [Underworld] STANDIN 23 Wins - 1 Losses)
Update the title of this post after every game (or series of games vs a single opponent) so that it accurately reflects your record.
Update the contents of this post after every game (or series of games vs a single opponent) so that it contains a list of the games you have completed, and the result of each of those games. If multiple games are against the same opponent, number the games

We also recommend not posting your off-elements used before Phase 2 ends, so that your opponents don't get an unfair advantage.

Please save your decks for easy posting after the round ends

We recommend sending your decks for each match as a PM to yourself to easily copy paste into the post during the 2 day window

If a game is not played before Phase 2 ends, it will be ruled a forfeit for the player who made the least attempt to ensure the match was played. i.e. a win for the demonstrably more active player
Each game is scored independently, and a win awards 0.5 points

Defeating a defending Master awards an additional 0.25 points

If both players can provide sufficient evidence that they tried to make a match happen, but were unable to complete it, the TrOs reserve the right to award up to 0.12 points (per game) to each player for a draw

Note: You can do your off element match(s) during the ban time if you wish.

Any player who does not post their Phase 2 decks during the 2 days between the end of Phase 2 and the beginning of Phase 3 will both not receive Phase 2 points and be disallowed from being in the Phase 3 poll.

Making a post here so people see it easier: I made a deck checker for Trials at http://etg.dek.im/vanilla/trials.htm
Simply choose the element you are trialing for, select the tasks you have done in Phase 1 (for Beginning War Training you choose how many categories you completed) and select if you are gonna play an in- or off-element game. Then click Test Deck and it will tell you if the deck is legal or not. If it was, it will also tell you which off-element(s) it uses.
The checker is also linked in the OP of this topic.

Note that only Darkness has its bans included, I will add the other elements' bans when they are posted here. If you notice any inconsistencies with the rules, just tell me and I'll update the checker.

During his work on the deck checker tool, Fippe also noticed that the upgrade distribution for standins was slightly incorrect - updated this so that the correct upgrades are now given for the tasks listed.

The deck checker is not registering an illegal deck for when an off-element has more than the in-element quantity (small band of this occurs between 40% and 50% if a duo)...
