12th Trials - Phase 1: Proving Your Worthiness http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=66119.msg1277677#msg1277677
« on: July 06, 2018, 07:06:36 PM »

Phase 1 will end in:
HAS RUN OUT

Phase 1 - Proving Your Worthiness

This phase is different in each Trial. It usually has something to do with helping out the community, but it can also be something where you show your skills as an Elements player or your devotion to your element. In Trials 12, the decisions you make in Phase 1 will affect your deck building rules in Phase 2 battles, as well as your opponents!

General Structure:

In preparation to be a Master and to lead your Element into War, there are 6 tasks. Each Trialist (both Masters and challengers) MUST choose 1 task to complete. The task you choose will unlock three Elements and some upgrades for you to use in Phase 2, but will also unlock one Element for your opponent to use. Not all tasks unlock the same Elements/upgrades!

You can earn up to 6 points for each task - for more detail see the 'Scoring' section. These points count towards which challengers fight for the title of Master in Phase 4, as well as the number of upgrades you may use in Phase 4.

If you choose more than 1 task we will randomly pick the submitted task that earned the most points (so a task with a bonus point will always be picked), however you might end up with Phase 2 unlocks which you dislike.

The Tasks:

Task 1: Aficionado
  • Write a short story about how you learnt to appreciate duos with your opposing element and give a deck example (including deck code). The story should have at least the following key parts:
    • Some short context describing how you encountered this duo (example: I was building war decks and I thought...)
    • The initial card combo that sparked your idea.
    • The deck code of the duo you are showcasing.
    • A short explanation of each card's role in the deck
    • The key support cards you attempted to utilize, but failed to make the final deck and an explanation as to why they were cut.
    • The success and failure rate of your deck against various opponents. (AI3, FG, PvP, Arena)
Submission details:
  • Post your story along with your deck code.
Phase 2 Component:
  • Unlocks 3 of the following:  :fire :water :earth :air. The unchosen element will be given to your opponent.
  • Allows the use of up to 5 off-element upgraded cards plus 5 of any upgraded cards in each of your Phase 2 decks.

Task 2: The Architect
  • Redesign your elements' shard OR alchemy card and nymph. Explain your reasoning and why you think it would better fit the element, then build a deck around it.
    • There is a table below with the Alchemy cards and shards.
  • The skill of your Nymph card should have the same effect as your Alchemy card.
  • Your Nymph should be a creature similarly costed to the other Nymphs currently in the game.
  • Comment on the balance of these cards.
    • Consider how they can be used by all Elements, not just your own.
  • Comment on how losing the current Alchemy/Nymph, or Shard cards will effect your Element in either War or other competitive PvP.
  • Comment on how gaining your designed Alchemy/Nymph cards will effect your Element in War  or other competitive PvP.
Submission details:
  • Post the card images and explanations in your Challenger's Entrance post. Both the unupped and upped are required
  • Card art is not important for scoring. Feel free to use the in-game art, custom art (copyright-free of course) or just leave the art blank.
  • You will likely find sections 2 and 3 of this thread very helpful.
Phase 2 Component:
  • Unlocks 3 of the following:  :death :life :light :darkness. The unchosen element will be given to your opponent.
  • Allows the use of up to 9 of any upgraded cards in each of your Phase 2 decks.

Spoiler for Alchemy Cards/Nymphs:

Task 3: The Militant
  • Come up with a tournament idea that would favor your element. Try to create a meta that would favor your element. This task should include:
    • The specific deckbuilding rules required for the tournament.
    • Any banned cards that you see fit. (try to refrain from banning too many specific cards)
    • An example deck that you think would be successful in the tournament. Explain your choice by analyzing the meta.
    • Any additional lore or rules that could aide in the understanding of the tournament.
Submission details:
  • Post your Rules and Deck in the your Challengers Entrance post.
Phase 2 Component:
  • Unlocks 3 of the following:  :entropy :gravity :time :aether. The unchosen element will be given to your opponent.
  • Allows the use of up to 5 non-pillar/pendulum permanent upgrades plus 5 of any upgraded cards in each of your Phase 2 decks.

Task 4: The Engineer
  • Design a new False God that features your element.
    • Create a thematic name for this False God.
    • Create a Deck code. (This should utilize the standard FG double draw, x2 deck size, and x3 mark).
    • Explain the strengths and weaknesses of the False God.
    • Explain each of the cards, and the reason they were included in the deck from a thematic standpoint.
Submission details:
  • Post your False God, deck, and explanations in your Challenger's Entrance post.
Phase 2 Component
  • Unlocks 3 of the following:  :water :life :time :air. The unchosen element will be given to your opponent.
  • Allows the use of up to 6 pillar/pendulum upgrades plus 5 of any upgraded cards in each of your Phase 2 decks.

Task 5: The Illustrator
  • Choose any card from your element. Using either MS Paint (or a similar software) or RL drawing tools, draw two pictures:
    • One that copies the current art. Try to both capture the original essence while giving it some of your own flare.
    • An original new art that you think would fit better for the card. Be creative and unique, do something that really shows off the card for what it is.
Submission details:
  • Post both of your images in your Challenger's Entrance post. Since you cannot post a picture directly to the forum, we recommend imgur for uploading your image.
Phase 2 Component:
  • Unlocks 3 of the following:  :earth :gravity :darkness :aether. The unchosen element will be given to your opponent.
  • Allows the use of up to 5 creature upgrades plus 5 of any upgraded cards in each of your Phase 2 decks.

Task 6: The Informant
  • Explain the science behind your element. Try to make it easily understandable for everyone.
    • Create numbers and recorded values to help push the explanation.
    • While we ask for most of this to be original work, we will accept utilizing exterior webpages for assisting with your explanation!
Submission details:
  • Post your Scientific Explanation in your Challenger's Entrance post.
Phase 2 Component:
  • Unlocks 3 of the following:  :entropy :death :fire :light. The unchosen element will be given to your opponent.
  • Allows the use of up to 5 spell upgrades plus 5 of any upgraded cards in each of your Phase 2 decks.

Note: You may use your in-Element cards regardless of whether or not your Element was unlocked in your Tasks in Phase 1.
Unlocking the Element you are trialing for lets you use one :rainbow deck per match per unlock.

Scoring:

All tasks will receive 0-6 points. Scoring will be done by the Trial Overseers based on the following system:

  • 0 Points: Completed none of the task requirements
  • 1 Point:  Completed very little of the task requirements
  • 2 Point:  Completed some of the task requirements
  • 3 Points: Completed most of the task requirements
  • 4 Points: Completed all of the task requirements
  • 5 Points: Completed all of the task requirements, and added meaningful content that wasn't required
  • 6 Points: Completed all of the task requirements, and an exceptional amount of extra content

To set expectations, very few task submissions will receive 6 points. At any point before the deadline, you may ask a Trials Overseer (worldwideweb3, or iancudorinmarian, or mathman101) to look at one of your tasks. We'll tell you how many points we would give the task, and point out which task requirement hasn't been completed (if any). As for adding something extra... that has to come from you!

Submission

  • Put all of your completed tasks in your post in the 'Challenger's Entrance' thread for the Element you are competing in (links to each are at the bottom of this post). Be sure to follow the submission details!
  • There is no limit for the text for any of the tasks, but try to be neither too short or too long.
  • The Trials Overseers will try to review submissions as they're added, note where and why credit was not given, and update the Trials Standings thread with completed tasks.  Players can expedite this by submitting well before the deadline and notifying a Trials Overseer in chat if one is present.  But ultimately it's up to each player to make certain they've followed the directions.
  • Remember that how well you do during Phase 1 and the nature of your submissions will most likely affect your score during Phase 3 (the community vote)and your deck building options in Phase 2.

Empty Applications

Players who enter the Trials before the initial deadline and do not declare tasks must confirm they want to continue with the Trial during the Extra Time by PMing the Trials Overseers or posting in the respective Phase 1 thread. They will receive 0 points for Phase 1, have normal Phase 2 Element unlocks, and have two fewer Phase 2 upgrades.

Edits after the Deadline

Any Trialist who updates their Phase 1 post after the Phase 1 deadline but within 24 hours of that deadline will be treated as though their post is empty (see above). Any edits after Phase 2 starts will result in a heavy point penalty and 0 points from Phase 1 tasks, or other significantly harsh punishment. If an edit needs to be made, notify the Trials Overseers (iancudorinmarian, mathman101 or worldwideweb3)

How To Join:

Make a post in the 'Challenger's Entrance' thread for the Element you wish to Trial for (links below). What you need to include in the post is explained there.

When battling in phase two, is the player's mark allowed to be any element or is it limited to unlocked elements from phase one?

In the last phase 2, you could use any mark. However, the rules haven't been released yet for the current Trials, so we'll all have to wait and see.

If you choose more than 1 task we will randomly pick the submitted task that earned the most points (so a task with a bonus point will always be picked), however you might end up with Phase 2 unlocks which you dislike.
If a task is chosen because it earned the most points, I wouldn't call that randomly.
To clarify, does this mean a player who submits two tasks gets the points for the best one but the element-unlocks are chosen randomly between those available from the completed tasks? Or is this a typo?

If two or more tasks have the same maximum amount of points, then it will be chosen randomly between those.

  • An upgraded off-element Spell/Creature/Permanent counts as either one of your allowed off-element upgrades from this task or one of your allowed Spell/Creature/Permanent upgrades from another task - it does not count as both.

Since we only complete 1 task this should no longer be relevant.
