Wow. One of the, if not THE closest matchups I have ever played. Really GGs Rob!

Game 1: LOSS

I had a very slow start here, only drew 1 Pend, and didn't draw a second one until it was already too late. Had no chance at all against his quick start.

Game 2: WIN

5oo 5oo 5oo 5oo 5oo 710 710 710 710 710 710 710 713 713 713 713 713 713 718 718 718 718 718 71a 71a 72i 72i 72i 72i 72i 8pr

I got a good start this time. He blocks me with BWs, but I get some poison on him. He only draws one bloodsucker.
I slowly kill him with poison before he gets any good poison on.

I get a good start again, but he gets too. First turn Skull Shield kills my first 2 Recluses immediately, but I quickly get a Dragon out. His Nymphs multiplies too quickly though and I get killed one turn before I would have killed him...

He got some creatures out, and I got some Wardens out. We both get quick Arse out but I didn't really draw much more damage than that. His arse killed me before I killed him.

Pretty fast and straight forward. I got a good and nice start while he didn't.

Again I got early Wardens here, that together with Skull Shield stopped his Bloodsuckers from poisoning the Dolls. I killed them with plague (poisoned a doll here too) and they were eventually replaced with Nymphs, which was also delayed with Wardens. I used some low-ish SS (~20 :earth) all while staying on low HP. I had very low damage out (He stopped my Dragon with BW) and his Dagger stopped most of my poison. Eventually his BW ran out, and I could defeat him with my dragons. The game was a lot closer than I first thought it would be though.

Game 9: WIN

Hands down the closest game of the whole match. We both got a fast start, his creatures dealt more damage than mine thouh. I played Pande when he had 4 creatures out, and I got the best pande ever. 1 Lightning, 1 RT, 1 Freeze, and 1 GPull on my own 7 hp Recluse. This delayed him enough for me to be able to catch up, but eventually it all went down to if rob would topdeck damage or not. He did, but only a Deadly Poison, not quite enough, which left me at 1(!!!) HP, and I could then win the game.
Spoiler for Way too close for comfort:

Again, really GGs rob, you were a great opponent in every way. At no point during the match was it clear who was gonna win, it was all close til the very end.

The Death battle royal for Eighth Master of Death is concluded.  If you want to see this showdown replayed, please view the youtube videos in my summary belowsorry you are out of luck as Fippe and I lacked means to record it.

(other decks built and screenshots on final turns to come later)
:deathbig

Spoiler for Ban lists:

Shard of Sacrifice (all game, by Fippe) - I expected as much so did not ban any shards myself as to assign those points elsewhere...

Dim Shield - OP in a limited meta like this, I think.
Bonewall - banning this one in element card makes Death stalling much harder as it really hampers or kills Pandebonium, Bonebolt, and the Air/Death or Fire/Death stalls.
EQ - PDials can be defeated simply with one or two early EQ's.  Also, nobody wants to see EQ (not so sure Fippe would have really fielded them anyways but I felt better not worrying about them while building decks).  Note: I ended up not being able to PDials with Fippe's clever bans.
Discord - I had a CP Discotek deck built prior to bans that was simply good and fun to use.  It was so good in testing I decided Disco had to go.  It would seem it wasn't "good enough" for me to use though, maybe I should have *hindsight*
Purify (odd) - Duh.  Death is weakened a LOT but this one card.  Now, not every deck has Purify opposing when it isn't banned, but as with EQ it is great peace-of-mind and helped with what I planned to feature... POISON.  Again, Fippe's bans hindered this idea.
Miracle - I just really hate opposing this card with :death.

In hindsight, perhaps a more varied and less "power-card-centric" ban list would have been more advantageous.  Bah!  *waves hand at hindsight in the moments after defeat*

Gracias RNG.  5 ttw with a super-duper draw (Nova-Nova and two Pend's with Arse, 'cluse, Spirit, Graboid, and Lightning quickly hitting the board) against Fippe's silly bad 1 quanta stall-draw.

Not exactly sure what went "wrong" here for me.  Wings hit the table but I was counting on indirect damage anyhow.  Looking at the final-turn screenshot of mine it appears my Nymphs/Parasites were late to the table and quanta-flood early game made big differences.  The deck matchup probably favors Fippe here.

I think the Nightmares and GotP's surprised Fippe here.  I had a good draw and won quite handily (in relation to the close nature of most all other games in this match).  Hindsight alert: I should have given this more opportunities.

I expected to get crushed from the first couple turns of evidence.  Then OP-Vagger came out to play and Fippe's damage hid low.  However, I have three of four Bone Walls in the last 6 of my un-drawn deck when  I lose.  I suspect Fippe had another Stoneskin or two in-hand to make it VERY close even if I had drawn more wall.

As CCC indicated in post-match chat, this deck is better served in un-upped meta.  I blew it using it TWICE in 25-upgrade matches!! :'(

What kind of defending Master would I be if I did not Mono-death-rush at least once?  Fippe had gone pure-death rush earlier so he is OK there. ;)

Mid-game (in 6-turn game I guess that was turn 4?) a Pande from Fippe unleashes the nail in my coffin, killing two Recluses freezing my Dragon and Grav-pulling a spare critter on Fippe's board.  All of this meant my SUPER fast early draw came down to a top-deck deciding turn.  I was four damage short of winning after Fippe's turn ends.  I drew a Deadly Poison leaving me ONE damage short of winning with Fippe guaranteed victory on his next turn.

End of match @ rob77dp 4 - 5 Fippe94

I would like to thank all Death Trials 8 participants for a VERY enjoyable time and experience.  The most fun actually playing PvP and deck-building I have had in quite a while!  That final was something exciting coming down to game 9 and being decided by 1 HP :o

Fippe94 - Always a worthy adversary and comrade (Wars 6 and 7).  I look forward to future encounters and partnerships!
:)

Community - *Caveat:  Barring any illegal decks or rob77dERp's above...* I introduce to you as Eight Master of Death...

Fippe94

Thanks one final time to CCCombobreaker and Zawadx for overseeing the Trials and thanks to ALL participants for an enjoyable ride.

I built this under the idea of stall-break.  However, I never finished testing/tweaking so I glossed over during in-match deck selection.  Perhaps it had a place and I failed to fully consider options each game.  :P

I have it categorized as a stall-break style, however looking at it I think that could only come from the Dune+Momo combo with Arse in weapon slot.  I did not finish testing/tweaking this either which led to no consideration for use.

MAYBE I could have won either Game 5 and/or Game 9 using this.  It was tested, tweaked, and ready to use but I neglected to bring it to the match.  I did load it a couple times and then changed my mind before entering PvP Duel to search.  I do not recall which games it was loaded and then switched out.

Ah congrats fippe. Also well done Rob.

And some statics.  Your win means that 3/5 of the players from Sweden has become masters, more than half of them. Also means that 4/6 of the people from Scandinavia has become masters. Just an interesting pattern.

Fippe was wise to ignore my troll deck offerings of Ball Catchers, Immovirus & Mummy/Hope (not that I don't spy some favorable matchups here)
Arsenic-beats-earth-stall result went exactly as warned (not to imply Fippe & I did any testing. He clearly didn't heed my warning running that stall twice)
Curious how fast Giant Frog duo was in testing. Feels as if mono with Flesh Recluse would be faster at first sight. Tsk tsk at naming a deck White Plague when it has no Plague

Wow! Congratulations !

9-game match with a 1-hp final win, I don't think it can get any closer than that...  :o
Wouldn't it be possible to have a dual-mastership to honor both players ?

Fippe was wise to ignore my troll deck offerings of Ball Catchers, Immovirus & Mummy/Hope (not that I don't spy some favorable matchups here)  I should have followed suit here and ignored my unfounded draw towards building AND THEN PLAYING (multiple times) a high-upgrade-meta Poisoned Dolls.

Well, in next-day review, you probably have a fair point here, serp.  It was plenty fast in testing and the ideas were that 5-ATK for 2-quanta > 6-ATK for 3-quanta as a ratio.  However, it seems best suited to maintaining near-mono-death speed in duo-required/needed environments/situations (which is not the case here).  Honestly, in testing it never had a draw as slow as experienced in the real-world use but that is the name of the game when duo-ing where a Mono-would suffice.

Tsk tsk at naming a deck White Plague when it has no Plague   *caught in a lie*  Yep, the deck-name is simple carryover from a previous deck (last Trials?) I built that DID have plague + BW.  BW was not allowed in odd games so it came out along with Plague to add SoD/healing etc.  The name change was overlooked!

Wow! Congratulations !

Allowing due respect to your opinion being just that, I would oppose any attempt to make such a dual-Mastership suggestion a reality.  The Trials process has a Final Phase 4 setup almost solely to discern between "Top 2 players" within an element.  Fippe fairly and squarely (once TrO's give a seal of approval here) won - a slim margin is still a deciding margin. :)
