11th Trial of Water: Match Report

I said "You will all kneel or drown" and "Those that are worthy will kneel, those that are not will drown".

I was wrong.

Spielkind is a true Water warrior. He never needs to kneel for me. Just swim alongside me.

Ban Comments: We had very similar bans, but I chose to only ban PC in even games so I could have space to ban Iridium Warden for all games. This was probably what won me the match, as I didn't have to worry about Shipwrecker or Patient Wardens. I also guessed he would use his global bans for things that i'd want banned anyway, so I chose two things which I knew he liked using, but I was unlikely to: Rage Potion and Discord.

I wanted to start with this as a fun, unexpected deck. I believed capable of beating the solid domins that I expected he'd use early-game, and I was right. He had a slow draw, but a lot of CC slowed me down a little. In the end, as I had hoped, dead PC cards slowed him enough for me to win.

This was a bad match-up for him. I thought he would expect something creature based this game, so I did the opposite. But really, his poor draw and my great draw made this a slow canter to victory. Feeling good.

Another good matchup. I was worried about Chargers and Dessication, but once i saw the SoFo I thought the deck would be too cluttered to include Dessication, so I layed down hope and waited patiently for... patience. it came late on, but was a simple victory.
So far he'd been quite unlucky with matchups.

As you'll see from the winscreen... I had a rather poor hand. 5 dead Pests with no Dark quanta, all 4 SoP (I discarded two) and 2 Poseidons. Being underquantad to win a squid war too, this was a simple win for Spiel in what should have been a fairly even matchup. Still, it probably just about favoured him, and I had had plenty of good fortune, so this was a game I deserved to lose.

I didn't want 3-1 to turn into 3-2, so I brought the best overall deck I had access to. Incredibly strong, Spiel's domin sadly didn't stand a chance.

Firstly, it made me smile to see Spiel use one of my own creations against me! He forgot to include the Dessications in his build unfortunately, meaning my gemfinders survived to fund my Pulverizer. After that, though he managed to freeze it twice with ice bolts, it was always going to be my game. Well, what can I say, once again I wanted to finish with my signature deck. Now undefeated in 5 games across 3 Trials Finals, Shipwrecker is my baby, and brought me a second Water Mastership!

Won toss again, start was okeee, but not good enough for him... used banned shield here but without using it, doesnt matter... but could be intresting when i used a better card here... like dessi... o_O

Lost toss, got a fast start, he bad draw, handeld a squid with two, tsunami was hard, but enough damage through poison in the beginning.

And yikes that game 4 screeny make it looks like the pests had been nmed into your hand. With only 4 dark pends though, it was quite likely for a fail to happen.

With only 4 dark pends though, it was quite likely for a fail to happen.

For reference: 73% chance to draw one or more dark pends in the opening hand, higher when considering mulligan. Depends on playstyle whether a player likes those odds.

Yeah, it's a really tough call with 4-5 pends. The theory is that the rest of the deck can function without the devourers, but not when you only draw devourers and SoPa.
