TOURNAMENTS Q&A

Q: This means "You can use a maximum of six non-quanta cards of any element.", right?
A: Yes, up to six.

Q: Can we theoretically have a deck which consists of 6 darkness cards, 3 life cards, 4 fire cards AND gravity/aether/death cards?
A: No, six is the sum of all non quanta, non grav/aether/death cards. You can have 3 darkness cards, 3 life cards and some pillars and gravity cards though.

Q: Are QTs freely usable?
A: Yes.

Q: Where are the balrogs?
A: They are not banned.

Q: Are "other" cards allowed?
A: Yes, they count toward the 6 card limit though (except the quantum cards).

Q: Define 'quanta cards'. Do Novae/Cremations count?
A: Only pillars (towers), pendulums, and mark cards are quanta cards.

Q: Suppose I'm bringing along GhosTal into the tourney and play it game 1. Will it be filed under Aether?
A: Yes, it wil be single aether, so you cannot play RustlerTal against the same opponent game 2 or 3. You can use SkeletonTal in game 2 though, as that counts as aether/death.

Examples of legal and illegal decks

Spoiler for Hidden:

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink

This deck is illegal for various reasons. The amount of non death/gravity/death/quanta is 21 cards, but the maximum is 6. Note that you can just use the cards from SoSe even if they are on the ban list.
Also it uses 1 gravity, 1 aether and 1 death card. If you use death cards its eith 0 or 4+.

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]

This would still be illegal, as nova is not a quanta card.

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6u6 714 714 714 716 748 749 74h 75c 77c 77g 77g 7al 7n1 80b 80k 80l 80m 8pm

This is legal. It qualifies as a deck with death+gravity+aether. If you use this deck in game 1, you cannot use it again in game 2 or 3. You need 3 decks prepared.

So when it's time for game 2 I cannot use the combination of aether+death+gravity again. I could just go for mono aether though:
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
61o 61o 63a 63a 808 808 808 808 808 80b 80b 80b 80b 80b 80b 80g 80g 80g 80g 80g 80g 80h 80h 80h 80h 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 8pu

Playing more then 4 aether cards is allowed, and so is playing unupgraded cards.

"You can use Pillars, Pendulums and Mark Cards (quanta cards) of any element."

(Emphasis mine.) Define 'quanta cards'. Does Novae/Cremations count? Rays of Light and their ilks? Soul Catchers?
(I wanted to ask Soul Catchers, but being a Death-type card gives it the global carte blanche.)

(I wanted to ask Soul Catchers, but being a Death-type card gives it the global carte blanche.)
A: Quanta cards = Pillars, Pendulums, Mark Cards. The term in the bracket just introduced a shorter way of saying those three. Quanta cards do not include cards like Immolation, Damselfly or Soul Catcher.

A: All 'Other' cards are allowed, including Quantum Pillars.

A: The six elements are the maximum of non-Aether/Death/Gravity (off-element) cards that can be used. Less can be used, but not more.
Six is also the sum of off-element card copies that can be used. (For example: 3 Life + 3 Time, but not 3 Life + 4 Time.)

The answers are also added to the first post (Thanks Vindi!) for easier access.

We would like to clarify the following rule:

"To count as using an element, you must use at least 4 non-quanta cards."

Using less than 4 (but more than 0) non-quanta cards of Gravity, Aether or Death should be avoided to prevent players using the same dual deck but with less than 4 cards in one of the main elements.

Just a quick suggestion for future tournaments - it'd be nice if we had some tourneys with restrictions on upgrades rather than the pure upped/unupped binary. At least in my opinion, the meta is most interesting in the 10-15 upgrades range, as it allows for powerful cards/decks to be used without being too heavily rush-favored. Having some variety also limits the use of stock lists. I understand this adds sometimes unnecessary complexity to the rules. Just putting forth an idea to hopefully consider.

I make tourneys where the number of upgrades depends on how you build your deck every now and then. Upgraded tournaments are pretty rare at once per month though and they usually coincide with me having a relatively speaking more busy week before. Personally id like it best if we could have a semiupped tournament(max 15 upgrades, usually further reduced by special rules) in the rotation (rather than the second unupped one) , but thats coming from someone who has a full collection.

I still don't have a full collection and support phoenix's idea. Before upped tourneys I just grind some more if I need some
upgrades for a specific deck. Grinding shouldn't be a problem for anyone while bronze arena is at 126 :electrum ...
