Weekly Tournament - May 2nd - Elements the Chess - UnupgradedPawns that promoted to rooks~. Tournament Organizers: iancudorinmarian, mathman101, Ginyu or Zawadx

Where? Please enter the Tournament room at least 15 minutes before the tournament starts. Click "Rooms" in the top left to find it.

Rules Please read the PvP Tournament rules carefully before joining the tournament. Remember to also read the Special Rules listed below!

Prizes 1st place 5,000 electrum + Nymph/Mark + Trophy (Forum Icon) 2nd place 3,000 electrum 3rd place 2,000 electrum In case of 32 or more players, tournament prizes will be increased.

Points for the World Championship 1st place 4 points 2nd place 2 points 3rd place 1 point

NOTE: You need just one presentable forum post to be allowed to join tournaments; you can post it here. If this will be your first tournament, a Tournament Organizer will test your knowledge about the rules. So please be present in tournament room 30 minutes before the tournament starts.




Special Rules

• Always read the second post! It contains equally important information most of the time.
• Upgraded cards and shards are not allowed.
• Each deck has to have EXACTLY 8 pawns, 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops, 1 queen, 1 king from the list below. Any unlisted card is unrestricted.
• Your deck must be able to play any card you use in your deck. (i.e. no dead cards)
• Maximum deck size is 30 cards.
• After each round, you may promote (change) 1 pawn to (for) 1 queen/rook/bishop/knight.

TOURNAMENTS FAQ

Q: What do you mean by 'no dead cards'?
A: This rule means you MUST produce quanta for each quanta type consumed in your deck. So if you have an Antlion, your deck must produce . Quantum Pillars, Nova and Immolation count as producing quanta of every element. Soul Catcher counts as producing . Dry Spell doesn't count as producing as it needs to be cast in the first place.

Q: Argh, why is the Pawn Promotion Rule so confusing?
A: Just think of it as a deckbuilding. e.g. for each round that goes by, the minimum no. of Pawns required decreases by 1. And for each pawn you removed from your deck, you must include one more knight/queen/rook/bishop. This can occurs as you wish.

Q: So Pawn promotion is Optional?
A: Yes, it's completely optional. You can keep using your 8 pawn/2 knight/2 rook/2 bishop/1 queen/1 King deck throughout the tourney. You may also choose to use a halfway amount in pawns (e.g. You may use 7 pawns and promote 1 in R3, when you might have instead used 6 and promoted 2).

Q: Can we promote pawns in any configuration?
A: Yes, yes you can. Like I said, it's a deckbuilding option, so you can choose to use it however you wish. If you used 2 queens in R2, it doesn't stop you from using 3 rooks 3 knights in R3. You can actually change the promoted pieces from game to game, so you could use 2 Queens in the first game of R2, and then 3 Bishops in the next game. Entirely your choice.

This deck has one Pawn promoted to Knight. It is not legal during Round 1, but from Round 2 onwards it will be considered legal.

This deck has two pawns promoted to Queen. It is legal for Round 3 and after. Note how Soul Catcher and Mark cards fulfill the quanta requirements.

This deck is illegal at any point during the tourney, as it has 8 pawns and 2 queens. Promoting a pawn means you must remove a pawn and add in a Queen/rook/bishop/knight. Also note the illegal two kings; the number of kings is fixed at one throughout the tourney, as pawns cannot be promoted to King.

Oh man, this has seriously got to be one of the coolest rulesets I've seen for a tournament.  (I'm also a fan of chess)  I'll try to make it, but it's 2am, and I do have somewhere I want to go at 9am that morning, so... we'll see :p  I'd definitely support this idea in the future, though.

I feel like I've seen this question answered somewhere, but I don't remember, so I'm going to ask it again:

Why aren't there just two tournaments on Saturdays that happen twelve hours apart? So, if one were to happen at 5 AM, then there would be another one at 5 PM.

I guess it might be just too much work, although I'm sure that there would be plenty of people who would be willing to take on the task.

We used to do it that way but not enough people showed up after awhile, so they were combined into one larger tournament.
