Title: Most sensational Arena matches
Post by: Jappert on August 31, 2011, 11:10:35 am
I'm trying to get more people to play arena matches, I'm trying to get people interested again and I'm hoping to find some fun posts/match results to read.

This topic will be used to post your most exciting/original Arena matches. It can be about anything, a real close match, a huge turn-around, an amazing EM victory, a very original way to win, an extreme counter deck or dropping the #1 deck 5 ranks down because you gave it a loss.. You can choose to type a review for the match and can add Screenshots of different moments in the match (please use spoilers!).  Of course you can also use this topic to comment on other people.

I will reward the best submission of every topic page with a reputation bonus!

Sounds like a fun idea. I had a story I've been considering telling about the most horrible thing ever to happen in arena. It was a bit ago, so no screenshots or pretty pictures, but I'll paint the scene with my words. You'll love it.

So I'm farming Gold Arena with Day Traitors (Someone really needs to fix the search button so I can link credit.) to see how well they do farming compared to my current deck, and they turn out overall to do very well. Its actually an easy deck to beat, but the metagame right now favors them, or at least it did at the time of this match, people are starting to throw in the standard counters now. The deck in question is a Firefly Queen deck. All cards upgraded. x3 Mark. 140-160 or somesuch hp. As I play this deck I'm thinking it'll be very easy, since most life focused decks fall to Day Traitors. It plays its first firefly queen pretty early, and begins generating its fire quanta. So its comp is a dab of fire, x3 Light Mark, Wind and Life Pillars. So I'm guessing by the Feral bonds out that its strategy is to splash the firefly energy for explosions and/or unstable gas, mark for Miracles, and to swarm with the Fireflies. But I have 2 nightmares and a lot of damage primed to go up. Do you know what it plays turn 4? Guess before opening the spoiler.

Hope. I'm dumbfounded, all upgraded FFQ's, and he runs Hope. I don't nightmare any more RoL's but its too late, with the DR gained through the ones he has + the regen from Feral Bonds... I get decked out. He played through enough cards to know that there was nothing that utilized the fire, and there were no light generating creatures in the deck. The deck made no sense at all, the Hope was unupgraded so I know that it would do literally nothing without my help, and I don't know whats worse, that this deck was made, or that I lost to it.

And thats my most embarrassing moment in Elements.
I hope you liked reading that. I know its probably not the type of story you were expecting, but its interesting and funny all the same. And as long as people enjoy it, it'll have been worth experiencing.

I like the Idea so I'll post some screenshots made in Platinum League with Pestosis:

Destoying a fire-stall with love:

Same vs a Candlelight deck. What a pleasure to have a successful denial before the first sanctuary is out ...

Then, a nice Mitosis Fight - Same difference:

And Finally a very fast Pest duel - Same but darker:

Image talks by itself, my opponent was very unluky with draw (only 1 tower, and it got stolen), so I denied him emptying its field, and, since the first creature to trigger his an uneclipsed pest, his quanta pool...My most satisfying arena match until now

Just fought a fire rush with my GotP deck, thought I had lost it, but he had to discard so he took 13 damage  :)) dont have a screenshot though.

Pretty funny that just after reading your post I had a couple great matches to add here!

I use lots of decks against Arena, but usually the most fun I have are while playing my 500 hp big timebow, since it gives lots of opportunities for unexpected comebacks.

Match 1 vs. Immo rush
Well, as you can imagine, Immo rush is not the best matchup for this deck, and it usually ends in a fast, hard beatdown
(http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/7986/arena11.jpg)

But once in a while you topdeck a Miracle at just the perfect time :D
(http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/9357/arena12b.jpg)

But don't you think it's over... in this match I was very close to loosing the whole time, and here's another perfect topdeck from the RNG gods (and luckly it was one devasting Pandemonium!)

In the end, I didn't even have to deck it out - immo rushes deserve a good Eternity beating, heh!
Match 2 vs. Mutation deck
Of course, the RNG is not always on your side... come on, a destroying dragon AND a stealing scorpion? :(
(http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/7793/arena21.jpg)
Match 3 vs. Poison deck
Yay for random Purify in deck! :D (and yay for 41 poison counters!)

And almost 100 poison counters later... EM! :)

Here's a few I've had in the past (no sshots yet)

-losing to a 1hp deck because I was playing a damageless 500EM stoneskin stall
-losing to a 1hp deck because it spammed shard of divnity early
-beating the #11 ranked deck with 500EM stall and winning over 2100 electrum (I think there's a SS of this in my bloglike thread about my arena decks)
-finding an incredibly bad deck in the arena that was somehow ranked 33-0, and easily beating it twice in one afternoon, leaving it at 33-2 :p (it had dune scorps, pharaohs, and momentums, and pharaoh+scarab > scorpion for momentum priority lol)
-finding a deck in the arena that had spun trident; the creator apparently decided 'eff this' and made a monolife weenie deck with five dead cards, and I still lost
-getting a -zero- turn kill by killing a 1hp deck with thunderbolt
-defeating a dune scorpion deck by quinting all its scorpions so it couldn't buff them

I don't play arena that much; I haven't found a deck that reliably wins against it yet.  The best I've managed are my FG rainbow deck, GotP Time, zombie's giantslayer, voodoo, and 500EM stall, but none of those have win %s that I'm happy with in the arena.  I still play it once in awhile anyway, and always use my oracle pets there, so hopefully I'll get some good sshots soon :)

-EMing #1 deck in Gold with Rol/Hope and winning over 2k :electrum
-Getting second ring in Platinum and running into my own deck which happened to be an perfect counter to my deck :(
-Losing to a 1hp deck because of a 1st turn SoD
-Locked down by 1 pest from a 1hp deck

Sometimes, the ai can really surprise you. You'd think they'd go straightforward with everything, so I'd love an explanation for this: (notice the -13 of discarding a GotP while having over 70 :time xD)
(http://imageplay.net/img/m7Gbd223076/arenafun3.png)One would almost say the ai got depressed of all those GotPs I killed and just gave up :3 (it discarded 3-4 total, mind you :P)

Faildraws are fun, too, at least when they come from arena decks ;)
So I get lucky with an early arsenic and what does the deck do? It plays one Sundial per turn from the mark ???
And when it finally runs out it saves up for SoGs: brilliant.

Love me some platinum EMs :D

Haha two nice ones aswell.

I also noticed some strange AI behaviour when playing around with GotP/Nightmare. It's discarding choices are quite weird sometimes. At times it will only discard his own cards (wich deal no damage), other times it almost seems like a suicide rush.

Not sure what was in this person's deck.  Their oracle card was pufferfish, and their record was (I think) 6-0 before this, so it wasn't a farm.  The AI never played a card the entire game; you can count the ttw by his entropy quanta :p  It was in gold arena.

(http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/3796/wtfdv.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/402/wtfdv.jpg/)

Edit: just realized I could spin and find out a few cards.  It had nova, chaos seed/power, fog shield, and the pufferfish, but I already knew the last one.

Couldn't stay behind on this topic, so I had to post a win of myself!

CCYB vs Platinum League:

First of all, this deck had 6-0 stats before I fought it. I was expecting to meet a basic life rush and hoping for no early mitosis or dragons. We all know how CCYB works and I would need an early shield to win this!

- The match started out with him playing 2 frogs on the first turn, I had a permafrost and Jade Shield in my opening hand!
- He quickly played a mitosis 2nd turn and frogs started to appea out of nowhere...
- I was VERY lucky with my quantum generation by towers (had no nova's) so I got my permafrost our 3-4th turn.
- I was possibly even more lucky with pretty much every creature freezing.
- It quickly looked like I wasn't going to make it though. He kept playing creatures and when I saw the Jade Dragon + mitosis appear I thought it was over.
- I didn't Quint my creatures to safe up for a possible fractal (didn't have fractal by that time yet, dunno why I wasted 3 quanta on my FFQ...)
- A wild AM appeared! That one card saved me teh turn after his 2nd Jade Dragon entered teh field.
- A last turn fractal won the match!

TorB won the first rep boost btw! (page 1)

I can't seem to find my screenshots on this computer but I remember a few funny ones.

-I was grinding platinum with a voodoo doll deck and met a farm. He played nothing but pillars throughout the whole game and I decked out.  :(
-Using the same voodoo doll deck, I was distracted and watching tv, and ended up decking out by drawing from a sundial when I could have won that turn.
-Playing against a mono aether using the same voodoo doll deck. Normally would have been an easy win, but turned out it had TUs.   :'(
-Losing to a 1hp deck. This was not with the voodoo doll deck but with a modded JMZ bow. I somehow got quanta locked by pests, flying poseidon and BH and couldn't play a thing. Throughout that whole game, I couldn't play a single SN.
-Not actually just one match, but over a few different matches against Ghostmare the ai decided to nightmare my creatures because of his faildraws.  ::)

I can't believe I lost this one after this display of copious amounts of fail.  Here's how it went down.

Facing off against a Mindgate deck, me with a Mono-Gravity.  AI pulls an early Lobo, almost ragequit material.
After sitting here watching the Lobo do its thing against my Otys, I then play my Amber Nymph and hope it doesn't get Lobo'd.  It doesn't for a few turns, but then the AI gathers enough :aether to make her suffer.  Now's where the fail ensues.
-AI Lobos the Nymph.
-AI Mindgates Overdrive.  Uses Overdrive on the Nymph.
-AI proceeds to continue Loboing my Otys.
-AI Lobos the Nymph again when it reaches 1HP.  Hurray for a 7 attack creature.

I'm beginning to think that saying artificial "intelligence" is being too generous.

Ever seen a Steam Machine with over 100 attack?  Ever seen three of them at the same time?
Ever seen anyone build a platinum arena deck around Protect Artifact?  And have twelve of them in play at once?
Ever beaten a protected Eternity by decking them out?

Behold, I give you... Dwerg!

(http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/8356/epicwint.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/840/epicwint.jpg/)

I laughed my ass off when I saw dwerg's arena card was PA.  I wasn't laughing once he got protted mindgates and stole my permafrost and PAed that, too.  Fortunately, I got a protted gravity shield early, and apparently that hoses everything in my deck except fireflies and nymphs, which were not drawn until late.  I also didn't draw any of my six hourglasses for the first 30+ turns, which is probably why I still have a deck left at the end of all this!  By the time the AI finally mindgated a firefly queen,  and got a few flies on the board, I got a quinted oty and gobbled them up.  It was a close thing between eating fireflies/queens/nymphs, having the oty freeze when attacking, and regenning hps lost from being hit, but I made it.  Then the AI played Eternity and PAed it the same turn... I thought I was doomed, but I hoped that the AI would screw up due to double draws.  Finally, once my own queen spat out enough fireflies, the AI playd a mindgated pandemonium, which meant it had room in its hand to draw 2 cards a turn, and it decked out a few turns later.

+1000 style points to dwerg for this deck  8)  If a human had used it, it would have won.

Here's another fun one:

(http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/3903/firedeath.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/828/firedeath.jpg/)

AI was playing a typical fire deck, only with death for bone wall and graveyard.  (its oracle card was bone wall)  My otyughs, before dying later, ate phoenixes, ashes, and brimstone eaters, and the graveyards filled its field with skeletons, preventing it from playing any more creatures!  Permafrost shield kept me from being hurt by those.  AI also had a lot of fahrenheits, but my pulverizers managed to destroy them all, though explosions eventually destroyed both my pulvies.  Just as I was wondering how on earth I was going to break down a 30x+ bone wall, the AI played aflatoxin on the otyugh, giving me a field full of critters to knock the walls down pretty darned quick.  The AI was also using fire lance (note its fire quanta is over 200!) but was too stupid to save up to keep two of them to kill me with; as soon as it drew one, it would zap me for a crapload of damage, which I would promptly heal with my shards.

Why hello there, rank #7 gold deck...

(http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/6425/pwndqa.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/202/pwndqa.jpg/)

An early quinted nymph and PAed shield, plus shards, were enough to hold back the entire AIs army.  My 2nd quint was late, so I didn't get the steam machine in play for awhile.  The AI had a protected Eternity, and I figured that I'd need to kill him with a super Steam Machine before I decked out.  However, the AI had other plans...

It played Animate Weapon.  Now I'm thinking maybe eternity will freeze, and maybe I can sneak a win in.  Then it plays Chaos Power on Eternity.  Amusing, but not really relevant.  Then next turn, I kid you not, it DEVOURS the Eternity with its otyugh!

Epic facepalm.

Yeah, I use a 60 card deck.  I'm used to Magic: The Gathering, where 60 card decks/4 max copies are the minimum size, so even this feels like h4x to me :p  It's my FG farmer deck, but I found out that it does very well against gold league, so I've been trying to gather score from the arena the last few days..  Against platinum, it's a bit too slow to be very reliable, though nothing I've yet seen is reliable against platinum.

If you don't have purple nymphs, I was using improved antimatter and another pandemonium in those slots before I got them.  If you have amber nymph, I'd use that, and if you have auburn nymph, I'd use that too, because it synergizes with gravity shield, and even your own otyugh, though that's a bit slow.  Golden Nymph I'd consider as well if I had it.

It's not exactly a 'sensational match' but I was looking at where I stood on the leaderboard and I found this on the same page as me:

This was obviously intended as a relic farm... but holy crap man, the cards this guy has.  The deck had only nymphs, marks, and quantum towers.  (and there's still 37 cards in the deck...)  That 8/13 oty ate nothing but tasty nymphs.  I saw at least 2 auburns, 2 golden, 1 amber, 1 turquoise, 1 air, and lots of fire ones, since his oracle card was fire nymph.  And those marks... they are doubled due to dexterity, but still... Also, there's a fire one played, but I'm not sure if you can see it in the corner.  (+1 for a 4x mark :p)  I pulverized his quantum towers because I couldn't bear to touch those marks.  I won 3 relics and got a chance at a rare spin, but didn't get a rare.  Thanks, rastafla! :)

This was the easiest nonfarm deck I have ever come across.  (excluding obviously bad draws)  Its offense consisted of unupped phase spiders, mindgates, and parallel universes.  The only point of serious offense was his name, which I reported to the global mods in pm.  I'm just shamed I 'only' won with 97hp.

edit: fair enough I'll remove the pic.  And yeah, this was in gold league.

Oh and his deck was extremely lame also at that time. If I remember correctly I EM'd him with a quite bad test deck.

My poor 500hp em deck got beaten by extraordinarily ordinary decks in platinum, so I felt like I needed some payback by making some counter >:D

First up, the omnipresent Fire Stall! Spins revealed an abundance of SoGs, but where were they? (http://imageplay.net/img/m7Gbd226200/troll.png)
Then I get more standard decks! Apparently some Discord/Black Hole that hadn't lost yet. Too bad it didn't have a lot of quanta to nom (http://elementscommunity.org/chat/skin_default/smilies/silly.png)
Nothing like beating some lame decks! I hope everyone will do the same and have fun beating up standard decks and enriching arena :)
First turn lockdown, problem? (http://imageplay.net/img/m7Gbd226200/troll.png)

It's not a lame Discord/Black Hole deck, it's a lame SNbow with some Discords and Black Holes in it. ¬_¬

Anyway, I just dropped by to post a screenshot of my own. The game lasted about 12 minutes. Not going to explain further, that would just ruin it.

This was a great match, very close.  Lightning bolt killed one dragon, and pandemonium weakened another one so that an otyugh could start eating them, but it got siphon lifed after eating 3 dragons.  As you can see, this deck had a lot of steals, which was very annoying.  I didn't see anything but dragons, steals, siphon lifes, and one octopus.  It was still pretty epic, though.

edit: another game

(http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/3495/graboidk.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/690/graboidk.jpg/)

This guy had a well-designed but simple deck.  Graboids, shriekers, basilisk bloods for control, and stoneskins for stall.  The only problem?  He forgot to change his mark to time.  The funny thing was his record was still 3-2 before this.  (3-3 now)

How the hell you get to #1 with one of the crappiest cards in the game, I don't know... but kudos to them for doing it.
Huh? Scarab isn't even close to crappy. If it were a rustler I'd agree with you. :P

Hm, well I don't think much of scarabs :p  But maybe it's my playstyle.

I decided to try a different deck out; it's still in the tweaking stages, but it's pretty fun.  This particular game, I got two +5 chaos powers out on turn 2 on my elite wyrm, and spent a few turns diving for 30 until earthquakes wrecked all my towers.  A little thing like 'absolutely zero frickin quanta for the rest of the game' didn't stop me from winning though...

(http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/8698/pillarsschmillars.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/508/pillarsschmillars.jpg/)

edit:

I don't think I've posted one of my losses on here yet :p  (because I never lose...!)  Anyway, when I saw this player's arena card was Entropy Pendulum, I had a few theories about what their deck might contain.  Boy, was I wrong...

:o I'm surprised the AI knows how to play SoR properly. Also it looks like without that Ulithard you might've stalled long enough to win when the opponent ran out of Wings.

Gravity Shield is so underrated.

Sadly this person didn't take AI targeting priority into account before making this deck...a Quinted Dune Scorp on turn 2 followed by an Anubis Blessed to heck pretty much sealed its fate.  Had the Nymph out but didn't even need it; never took any damage.

Here's somebody who made a rather interesting deck with Arsenic as their card.  I just barely squeaked out the win on this one.  Momentumed quinted weapons are brutal... (I had more pillars but fell victim to two earthquakes and a bunch of explosions, not to mention the pulverizer)

Nice win!

With all due respect to this player, their arena deck was actually pretty good.  They simply had no way of knowing just how badly the AI would fail with the interaction between its Dark Nymph and my Purple Nymph.  I would antimatter its creatures, and then AFTER I did that, it would liquid shadow them!  Thanks, AI!  (their card was bone dragon)

won coin toss
turn 1(me): QT + :entropy :entropy  :earth , SN, E.graboid.

turn 2(me): draw SN  :), SN, explosion (QT :D ), black hole (ZERO quanta  ;D ), E.grabiod evolve, some other criter(s) I don't remember

I remember someone laughing at Scarabs as the Oracle card of a #1 deck in arena, being useless and stuff, well they truly are worthless after all, right?

Standard decks like:
Oraclebows
(http://imageplay.net/img/m7Gbd227839/omnom2.png)Fire Stalls
(http://imageplay.net/img/m7Gbd227838/omnom1.png)or Devtals
(http://imageplay.net/img/m7Gbd227840/omnom3.png)are definitely better than Scarabs!

After that I lost due to not drawing my Scarabs D=

And for the record it was me laughing at scarabs in the #1 spot.  I laughed harder this morning though, seeing Rember atop platinum league at 74-1 with Fate Egg.

Come to think of it, I think it was Rember who made the top with Scarab, too.  I bet it was the same supernova deck except for those five cards :p

Lost to another 1hp deck today... infuriating loss because:

1) I was using a Destroyer and decked out
2) He sadly won the coin toss and played 2 SoDs the first turn
3) Skull Buckler haxed through my Phoenixes like no tomorrow, managed to get 1 Destroyer to 39/23 though
4) His Oracle card was SHOCKWAVE (And he used an Oraclebow)
5) He managed to get all 12 SoDs by the time I decked out
6) He used 2 Miracles
7) He had 9 SoGs by the time I decked

I don't know if it is better. It is more my style. It has a bit more control and a bit less atk power: +1 Rewind, +1 Oty, +1 Bloodsucker, +1 Pulvi, +1Deflag, +1 crusader, -1 steal, -1 graboid, -1 charger, -1 BH, -1 archangel, -1 hourglass. I really think the bloodsucker is a must.

Here an example of it taking a EQ/RW grabodeck down (the double effect poison/fire buckler killed all graboids)

Steam Machine.  Spanks firestall every time :)  Love that 15hp.  This deck was 31-0 and rank 10 in gold.  I've never understood what the big fuss over firestall is, when immorush is so much stronger.  However, since I know there are people who hate firestall (a lot of people!) Hey, DD, so you faced my squidosis deck! Nice - team time members giving each other a hard time :)

I actually had deckout in mind as the winning condition for this, with a couple of dragons thrown in, just in case the opponent had no CC. I'm glad you had some "fun" with it! :p Well, even though I didn't actually make the post, I think I should have a shot at winning on page 6, not only for making a deck that could win by squid damage, but specially for not skipping flood as my oracle card!  :P

I thought flooding would work well to help stalling along with the squids, but for some odd reason the AI almost never plays it, even though there are 10 in the deck (I played against myself a couple of times and saw it only once). I guess even the AI doesn't like flooding :/

One of the things I likeabout rainbow control is that it takes more skill to play than any other deck due to the fact that more play choices are available.  In this game, the AI was using a catapult deck, and it got an excellent start.  I was about to lose the game, but fortunately I'm 1337 and made the unusual play of quinting my -opponent's- only creature in play at the time, so that it could not be catapulted at me to kill me.  That decision ultimately won the game, as I was able to stabilize with gravity shield and pulverizer.

Also note my max hp; this deck was packing SoVs :D  Sadly I didn't win one.

sick change of luck at times in this game.
i was thinking someone is trolling as he writes in chat "a farm for shards is up in plat arena".
so i play this game like a week or so, do some card / deck combo testing, take discord as my first weap then read lobo or pulvi or even eternity would have been better for the first farmers etc.

well i won a shard of sacrifice and a morning glory and eternity through no land or umbah stompy with 1 more deflag in platin arena to some 100ish hp deck
(while trying to find this shard farm ^^ realized that 3 games not sooo hard to win with fire rush)

even beat some deck with 170ish hp and got a 12 hitter next. riiight 12 life.. what can go wrong

at this point i had started with some photons and immo and a lava golem and enemy is down to 5. golem gets ice bolted photon probably too or shockwaved.
all of the sudden this Bonewall turn up with 2 virus next next round and just to mock me with an Arsenic so it s at 5 life again

needless to say every other golem / forest spirit / lycan i draw gets infected, bonewall grows. i take 2 shards of then my critters die and bonewall grows..

wow that gave me a cooler. smiling though. a bit .. i think *GRRRRRRRR*

Goddamn Malignant you must be the worse Troll ever in intraweb history! You think you meet a Shard-farm but notice it's 6-0 win record....

I had a great draw and started getting damage going quickly. His AI then started failing immensely by chaining SoSa's (multiple a turn...) and lightning'ed (his oracle card was lightning) my stoneskin Gargoyle about 4 times (check his HP...). Even then though, his SoD's just kept adding HP while SoSa healed back for a bit. When the SoSa chain broke I played my creatures and tried to rush.
Even more lightnigns followed by another chain of SoSa's broke my offense while his Morning Glory ate away my HP. Talking about eating HP btw... There were 3 SoV there during the entire match doing what they do best, the only reason I stayed alive was my wings shield.

The outcome was clear. I ended up with about 6 HP and my wings down. Morning Glory one shotted me. You wonder what that Leaf Dragon's doing there? That's just a little SoSe randomness....

Ive had some close and exciting matches with my fallen druid/mito pest deck farming arena silver. but this one takes the cake. damn  guy had a creature control boneyard fallen druid deck that could out quanta me. i managed to rush mutants and creatures keeping myself alive with feral bonds until he ran out of dimensional shields. Then did 144 damage in one turn for the win. *note- my favorite mutants here are the 23/2 crimson dragon sniper and the 9/15 1 :gravity mitosis colossal dragon.

(http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/6176/bizarreu.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/841/bizarreu.jpg/)

This was one of the weirdest decks I have ever played against. (card was light nymph)  It had, as far as I can tell, no damage sources besides nymphs and morning glory, and was probably intended to deck the opponent out.  (but then why the morning glory?)  On turn 2, it played Solar Shield, and I'm thinking, okay, that makes sense to fuel the nymphs I know it has at least 10 of.  Then on turn 3 it plays Sanctuary, and I'm going... wtf?  Sanc+solar shield, in the same deck?

I quickly start laying the smack down with a huge Steam Machine, and then the AI spams three Shards of Sacrifice.  Now I'm *really* going wtf, because then the sancs start hurting it, and it actually starts doing things like activating light nymphs to deal 10 damage to itself, and playing shards of divinity to take damage.  My steam machine was already so big by the time the SoSas were down that I just kept pumping the darn thing up for when they finally wore off; I didn't care if I was healing him more because he was just sitting at max hp anyway, despite the damage from his own healing.

A Precognition I got off of a Shard of Serendipity showed me a hand full of miracles, but with all the SoSa spam, it never got the quanta to play them by the time it needed them.

The weird stuff I have in play, like the catapult, was from SoSe, and stuff like solar shield and sosas in hand were from mindgate.  The quinted steam machine got a blessing from SoSe, hence the 18hp.  On the last turn, you can't see it, but I actually catapulted an Elite Armagio that a SoSe also kindly gave me, which is why, if you were bored enough to do the math, you'd find it didn't all add up.

The funniest thing is, despite the mind-boggling antisynergy of the entire deck (the reason I decided not to include the player's name in the screenshot; not sure if this deck is genius or insanity :p  Its record was I think 4-2 before this) is that I started to get worried that I was going to get decked out, so for the last dozen or so turns I didn't use my hourglasses at all.

edit: because even fewer people are likely to care what's on my desktop than what happened in my arena game :p

Forest spirits were a good choice in this opponent's speedbow, since they don't really suffer much from being unupgraded.  However, using Thunderbolt (the oracle card) and Rewind in the same AI deck doesn't work very well, because it plays thunderbolt on something and then rewinds it.  It was fairly close all the way, and I would have actually lost the game, except that on the last turn the AI decided to Thunderbolt one of my creatures instead of me.

The damselfly, graveyard, and dissipation field were from shard of serendipity.  I seem to get dissipation field far too often from that card, and it's dead useless with sanctuary in my deck :p

ugh i wish i took screenshots... just saw this topic after looking at the forums for 1st time properly in a while, so i only have words:

after just winning my 1st shard of serendipity (entropy one), i added it to my usual arena speedbow, and was playing against plat, it was on my 3rd ring, against a life rush, lots of epinephrine frogs, cocatrices, the usual... and i was set to lose on my next turn. drew my SoSe for the FIRST TIME EVER... drew wings, diss shield and rain of fire. Now my favourite card. nothing from spin though cos i was serching for new shards instead of going for the 2/3 lobo :P

Will make sure to take SShots so i can post proof next time :P

Anyways Mindgate is a top card, slow but awesome. Maybe new defenses as shard of sacrifice help to sustain, with sundials it's 18 turns of almost peace except for those 6 turns of sundial where weapons or steals/destroys can denial sundial.

I just finished an epic 15-minute match against a mono- :aether deck using mindgates and QTs. I was using entropy/light. The guy dominated early on, chaining dim shields from turns 4 to 10 so I couldn't do any damage... but other than my mindgated RoLs, he didn't do any damage either.

Turn 15 comes along. By now we both have plenty of damage on the board. He's used a (mindgated) miracle to keep himself alive, and so have I. I have a second miracle in my hand, but nowhere near enough  :light quanta to use it before he kills me.

Then he mindgates Solar Shield.

Thanks to all of the RoLs he put out for no good reason earlier, I now have enough quanta to use it and save myself, but I still won't be able to kill him quickly enough thanks to his own solar shield.

Turn 17: the guy mindgates two Butterfly Effects. I think I'm done, but for some reason he plays both of them leaving him with too little  :entropy to get rid of my shield, and I have 5 HP left.

Then I play my own BE, destroy his shield, and kill him.

Fighting a mono Aether with a SoSe Snova deck, its chaining Dim Shields, and has some SoG's to heal. So I start building up a mutant base to rack off my damage, since it keeps flying its Lobo's to Maxwell's jaws. It breaks through my cat supported bonewall after a good bit of effort, although I've got lots of vamping and two PC cards in my hand and am about to play through to finish it off and thusly win my third wheel spin.

Epic comp troll: Mono Aether that hasn't played Silence all game in a 20 turn game suddenly plays Silence on literally the one turn that screws me out of a win.

Epic counter troll: Last ditch mutate into a Steal Druid. I remember looking at the comp and thinking "Only a Steal mutant will save me now."
Well, a destroy mutant would do too :P
Yes it would, but the reason I mentioned thinking Steal was that I was a bit depressed about it and only thinking steal since steal was the card I was going to use that was blocked by silence. So I didn't cognitively think "a steal or destroy mutant will PC it and save me", I thought "I need Steal now"

Using a Pharaoh SoR deck with chimeras against Plat... come across a  :earth /  :light deckout... with diamond shield

1st i fill the board and chimera... and then for my final burst, 1 card from deckout... I do it again:

And managed to skip the miracle or further stoneskins with a 135 / 562 CHIMERA on 2nd to last turn ;)

Actually you had another turn to try but he would have se stone skin or miracle. Awesome chimera though ;)

No screens but a cool story.

I'm playing OTK (the QT version) vs. mono black packed with SoVs and pests. No PC means I'm quickly down to 1 hp and the field is flooded with vapire/gargoyle/pest combination. My hourglasses are barely keeping my dim shields from being stolen and me being killed in the process. Silurian dragon is hiding deep in the deck so I can't do much till I draw the exactly last card. Quick look at the quanta pool and a sad face. Pests sucked all but the bare minimum to pull off the trick. Opponent has 200 hp so the sky blitz + 4 SoRs will be necessary to seal the deal and I have 9 air quanta (unupped blitz, duh)...

Aaaand the impossible happens, 4 shards go down touching all but the air pool. /Trollface and the sweetest EM this month :)

I'm assuming he didn't have Dusk Shield up, and I would have felt quite sorry for you if SoR #4 is what drained your Air off the needed amount, because you technically can Sky Dive after 3 SoR if there's no opposition. (Still play the 4th though.)

In any case, I can see how this would be quite a rush, and congratulations.

Oy... played against Afunke's time/life rainbow stall deck.  He had loads of feral bonds, sancs, SoGs, and spammed creatures with pharaohs, mitosis, and had anubis and lots of PAs, as well as thorn carapace and some PC.  It took me over 4800 seconds and 36 turns to beat him by decking him out... I had PAed gravity shield and lots of sancs :p  I earned my second plat ring doing that.

For my third game I get... Afunke.  :))  zomg... here we go again... at least this time I don't bottomdeck my pulvy's and I can smash stuff... though I still have to deck him out.

Haha, good one this time.

Playing vs.  :darkness  :death deck with some random SoSe rainbow.

Kinda slow start + opponent starts with arsenic + double deathstalker backed up with nightfall in the opening hand. I'm deploying Oty + Maxwell, but the poison counter already shows 21 with 22 hp to go. My turn! Without much hope I put down the bonewall and eat the vampires. Now the only problem left is the poison... 1hp left, yup... Drawing SoSe sparks some hope. Boom, I get the purify! Muhahaha /trollface.

I'm sitting on 1hp but behind 11-charge bone wall and an army on the field. Eat that AI.

I know people hate ghostmare, so this should be a fun one:

(http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/9247/ghostmarenightmare.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/204/ghostmarenightmare.jpg/)

I got a 2nd turn PAed Sanc, and a quinted nymph a few turns later.  The PAed Pulvy came shortly after that.  I didn't get any of my 6 hourglasses or any of my damage sources in the top half of my deck, so I just sat there stalling, and stalling, and stalling... By the time I saw my first Steam Machine, I decided, screw it, I'm going to try and deck out ghostmare!  :P  I almost made it...  :'(

(the goofy stuff is from SoSes :p  No, I don't normally play dissipation field next to sanc, lol)

This player deserves about 5000 rating for their unique pest/steal/SoSe rainbow deck.  I don't know how many of the cards were its own and how many were sose-generated, but it was a real blast to play, and a testament to the quality of the deck that I had to deck it out even though it had 32hp.

It took me 29 turns to kill this farm, and I didn't even win anything!  It had SoSas, SoVs, SoSes, and at least one SoP that I mindgated.  At one point, the AI had a thirteen turn SoSa chain on its hp.  Not only that, but I only won 242 electrum from a platinum EM.  The weird thing is that this deck actually had some wins, if I recall.  Maybe people thought it was a ghostmare and quit?

I missed the screenshot due to creatures attacking in an order I didn't expect, and killed him one turn earlier than anticipated, but I just beat the #5 ranked platinum deck (player=Parasite, monodeath spider/arsenic SoSas) when he had a chain of seven turns of Sosa up, by using my purple nymph to antimatter my huge steam machine.  I forgot that the machine attacked before everything else, and so it instakilled him; if it hadn't been first, I'd have needed 1 more turn as the nymph would have healed him first by just enough to keep him alive a turn. (not that it would've mattered, I had the game locked down, I just expected to have to wait out the SoSa first)

(http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/5753/halfdarkdead.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/838/halfdarkdead.jpg/)

Early sanc made all the difference, as his card was black hole.  Apparently he didn't think PC was that important.  He got one explosion off, and I think one steal, and had one on the topdeck (the ones in hand I mindgated on the last turn)  Gravity shield kept most of his critters away, and since his tiny bit of PC went all to hourglasses, it survived even without PA.  Pulvy took out all his towers and hourglasses.  I lightning bolted anything that got past gravity shield.

My opposing AI is playing a deja-vu mass buff rush deck. I get a bad hand at first insofar as I don't have Arsenic in my opening hand, so I only have 3 deadly poisons to chip 9 hp a turn away. My Beefy opponent has ~170 hp. This is gonna take a while.

The game plays very simply, and I believe that its going to be a clean sweep, although the arsenic issue is keeping me worried. It doesn't look like this deck will give me any curveballs though, how could it? Its a simple deck that depends on pure rush capacity. So it keeps playing its entropy and time quanta, and after a bit has 2 12 ATK Deja's, a unsplit momentum deja, and a regular unsplit deja. I'm at about 100-110 hp, so I figure that I'll take one more turn to get my hp lower, and then throw out SoSa.

Well as it turns out this deck has a surprise in store for me. Until now it had about 6-7 cards in its hand, which I wasn't paying any attention to, and the little attention I devoted to them was of the "oh its just focused on low quanta and not caring about burning all its cards instantly, weird for a rush deck but meh" variety. However on this turn it plays 3 Supernova, and 5 buff cards, I know at least 1 blessing, at least 1 Rage Pot, and at least 1 Chaos Power, and duplicates the deja's on the field, skyrocketing its damage output far up. I wasn't paying attention to the actual numbers since the buffs were coming on so quickly and it was part-randomized, but the yellow health indication was grim. Therefore...

I survive with 44 HP. After a moment to contemplate what just happened, I proceed to laugh and take SoSa to the bank.

... 4 turns later, it still has a huge buffer of hp, I'm running dry on SoSa, and still no Arsenic. Or Deadly Poisons for that matter. And its still got a huge balloon of hp, over 100. I'm getting worried now, but after a long battle of it getting me down, me keeping up SoSa's, and eventually getting my arsenic when the opponent had under 90 hp and I had 11-12 cards left in the deck, and good fortune in the last few turns, it ends in a crushing defeat.

Boy, 220 Hp EM's are tasty.
I also notice that this was the first match for the deck, and since there's a mark switch to light, I wonder what deck he has now...

^ Same situation for me, but I won :P

Made a partially upped SPlat deck after getting my 6th SoSac. I used unupped Sosacs and SoDs because I couldn't bear to up my hard earn rare shards lol, would ages to farm some more unupped ones

I was against a damageless deckout deck with at least 4 miracles (AI used 4 in one game) I was thinking 'fuuuu, omg when is this gonna end'. Finally after the 100+ poison counters and 2 cards from decking out, I win.

No screenshots, but I was farming with a SoSe rainbow, and I meet yet another unoriginal mono-:death SoSac farmer. Fortunately, I pull Arctic Octopus and get a Guard mutant, so I manage to lock down a lot of my own damage down. The opponent keeps spamming SoSac, though, and it looks like I'm going to deck out. Just when I'm at 3 cards, one of my SoSe pull Eternity for me, and I had pulled a Time Tower a few turns before. I start rewinding Werewolf to wait out the SoSac spam.

As they keep spamming SoSac, though, my HP keeps getting chipped away to poison despite my enormous Bone Wall. I forgot that the Vampire Dagger I was using to keep myself alive is no longer there. I hit 14 HP with 13 poison counters, I have absolutely no healing, and the opponent still has 16 HP and two turns left on their SoSac (and three poison counters, due to my Deadly Poison earlier). Hoping for a miracle, I dump my hand of useless-against-SoSac cards and play the last SoSe I had saved up... and pull Antimatter and Sky Blitz. (And a Pendulum.) I improved-mutate my 8/17 Otyugh into a Dune Scorpion with 2 :time : Hatch, and hatch it for a 12-ATK Ice Dragon.

Trololol.

I was farming some Platinum again with my 500HP EM deck and saw another Mono Darkness, first impression was "oh, let me guess, 9001 Steals, this is gonna be a quick exit" but when the game started the arena deck only started with a single Pendulum. My start was decent, although it had a bit too many Granite Skins (3 in starting hand D:) but I figured my early Hourglass could take care of it...

Surprise, surprise, it instantly got stolen. Luckily, that and Eclipse were the only things the deck could even pay for up to now so I went ahead and went to bide away some time, soon I got my first Sanct up for some reliable healing and to prevent those Pests from eating all of my quanta. Vamps were soon tearing a hole through my defenses though, but I drew Inundation and Dragons and Vampires were dying all over the place (that's right, Inundation saved my life! ;)). Of course, that one Sanctuary wasn't going to cut it, I regularly drew Sundials to stall a bit, got a Quinted Otyugh, Pa-ed Eternity early and got a second Sanct, but I had to use my Stone Skins to keep myself alive while the Otyugh had to nom Pests and Vampires one by one before it got to the size at which it could eat that Obsidian Dragon. In the end, I finally drew my second Bone Wall and another Hourglass. Albeit the Hourglass instantly got stolen that Bone Wall sealed the opponents' fate. Getting a Quinted Mitosis Gnome and a BE made things that much easier. Unfortunately, that big fat Otyugh and my Eternity easily beat the opponent afterwards, before I could even draw all my Stone Skins or heal to full health :(

Rather low on QTs, but deck can't get fatter. Expect regular discards, depending on what your opponents' deck is (quint for CC-less decks etc.).Jade Shield has helped tons against Bolt Stalls and decks with a lot of immaterial creatures, or when you simply can't draw Bone Wall yet. Added it after getting bolted to death by an empty field regularly.
Inundation kills an extreme amount of creatures and then some, useful because it's hard/impossible to get a quinted Otyugh fast enough to deny a platinum deck that spams creatures before there are over 5. Used to have 2 in it, but always ended up discarding the first.Deck is easily customizable though, but don't remove more QTs ;)

I've been testing it unmodified, and although not all of the cards are upped, most of them are so I think I can comment. (Not upped: 2 Cats, 6 Granite Skins, 1 Inundation, 1 Sanctuary, 1 Rewind)

I don't think it sets up fast enough. Against most decks it gets wtfpwned by creatures/poison before it can accumulate 5 :death, if it even draws Bone Wall in time. Almost all decks pack CC, so you can't really afford to play Otyugh without Quintessence, and Otyugh is needed to slow down the damage output (though Sanctuaries and Jade Shield help with that, I rarely draw enough Sanctuaries to make a difference and have the quanta to play them. Sundial is excellent and usually necessary but takes away :light).

I've often found myself wanting more Protect Artifacts. There are enough PC decks in the Arena that it's worth having more even with the disadvantage against PC-less decks. Not sure what to take out, though. Also, more Quintessence/Otyugh would be nice, given the importance of quinted Otyugh.

I won two games out of 20, one by decking out (not fun against a 120-card deck) and one by brute-forcing through Miracles with a massive Otyugh. Maybe I'm playing the deck wrong? Games usually go:

-Towers, Jade Shield ASAP
-Purify ASAP, or wait if the opponent might have poison
-Wait to bait PC on towers (does not work against Steal/repeatable PC), then Sanctuaries/Hourglasses
-When about to die, Bone Wall and/or Sundials (earlier if against Bolts), Inundation if all PC depleted or I have higher-priority PC bait
-Gnome Gemfinder/Mitosis/Quint ASAP, generated Gnome/Butterfly Effect/Quint ASAP, Otyugh/Quint ASAP, PA'd Eternity when I have enough quanta even after supporting Hourglasses

The problem being, PC might not be depleted before I'm close to death. Also, a lot of the critical combos in the deck are exactly that- combos- which don't work well with fat decks, despite the stall this deck can muster.

Opponent: Voodoo Twin Universe with Shard of Sacrifice
Me: Rainbow Control with Mindgate

Result: A lot of very large steam machines, a near-lockdown with amber nymphs, and a very large voodoo doll about to be eaten by an even larger otyugh.

I almost quit early when I saw what I thought was a counter to SPlat, fractal phoenixes with lobo and sancs for healing.  Turns out it was a good thing I played it out...

Sometimes Arena becomes horribly mundane as you face hard counters or hard counter other player's decks in Arena...but then other times a match comes along that gives you such a phenomenal rush after claiming your victory.

Little bit of additional info:
-At least 2 Purifies had been played this game.
-My 5th Deadly Poison had been the 2nd to last card in my deck.  After I saw the remaining amount of HP my opponent had, I laughed to myself and thought just how completely unbelievable it would be if I drew another Deadly Poison on my last turn.  It was too late at night for me to keep track of what I'd drawn unfortunately.
-My 6th Deadly Poison was the last card in my deck.  I couldn't believe that I had managed an exact HP win on top of drawing the exact card I needed on my last turn.

872 electrum and an upgraded Miracle to boot.  Quite rewarding all in all indeed.

Beta so good, mono Water has actually become a viable farmer for as long as people try to spam SoSac in Platinum :P
First match I tried it I had never even tested the deck and instantly faced the #1 mono Darkness deck in plat, so I thought I'd get slaughtered, was built to counter SoSac decks primarily :P

Luck would have it opponent had a bad start, mine was pretty good (apparently xD). For once those usually annoying Steals and pests actually slowed my opponent down rather than me, allowing me to get in damage earlier.
Despite the Vampire and Eclipse I was fast enough with my damage to outrush this mono Darkness \o/(http://imageplay.net/img/tya22260856/wadurr.png)
For the short duration that SoSac decks are still everywhere you can try the deck out yourself :p

#4 ranked platinum deck, water mark puffer fish.  I'm thinking SoSa, physalia, death stuff.  Nope, monowater, with SoD since it had 72hp base.  With a buttload of purify.  Against SPlat.  I'm getting that sinking feeling inside... I win anyway and walk away with 1260 electrum.  I didn't count but I think it played about 6-7 purify that game.

I've been experimenting with a new arena deck.  It was originally intended as a non-boring way to farm bronze.  However, it turns out it actually does pretty well against platinum, too :P  I am constantly amazed at some of the wins this deck manages to pull out of its ass.  This one was particularly close, and on the last turn my heart almost stopped as I watched if the AI had one last miracle (it had played several already)  Fortunately, it did not... :)

This guy's deck was nothing but a shard farm, with nightmares.  (I have 6 precogs in the deck)  He nightmared my shard of focus (!!) and then my deja vu from SoSe.  The only thing funnier than that was that Cless' farm deck actually had a win, even though it has no win condition other than SoV/nightmare.

I once encountered a deck with 1 HP.

I had a SN QT rainbow deck.

He had first turn, played some towers.

I played 3 QT, no SN.
He used earthquake and Black Hole --> I'm left with no quanta.
Didn't draw any QT for some time and when I did he destroyed it immediately (steal, explosion etc.)
He also played Discord.

Anyway... I had no chance to ever play a SN. For the whole game my quanta has been drained and he never played a Devourer.
So he slowly started spamming his creatures and finished me off without me giving any damage.

Most humiliating loss I ever had but it was sensational to see ^^

I met top-2 deck in platinum with only 1 loss (Calin221).
It was fire deck, I supposed it was another rush, but enemy played a lot of ash eaters and only 1 seraph and 1 phoenix :)
What else was there I don't know as I had enough SoS in my Splat to chain them... great EM with 148 hp :)(http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg842/scaled.php?server=842&filename=emtop2.jpg&res=landing)

AI stole my diss shield right at the end, but fortunately I had that one darkness quanta left, and everything got through dusk the turn before (the shield he'd had up to then) and left him at 2hp.  My lone darkness tower then produced 1  :darkness which was just enough for the siphon life I'd stolen a few turns before with mindgate. (which was stolen too :p)  All of the pests then kindly decided to leave that darkness quanta alone :)

Just had a awesome match against a 32/2 deck, a mono death.
It had Skull Shield as oracle card, and I managed a first turn flying staff with momentum on it.
I was at 9 hp before I managed to get a adrenaline+TU combo going, then topdecked a sundial to get back on full hp.
The 3rd TU was lovely, making my damage and healing much much faster.
In the end double sundial to secure EM.
Yes, the arena deck had SoSac, but Ai doesn't know to play good against adrenaline, so 3 staffs that can do 36 damage per turn weren't counted as more than 9 damage.

Just won against a Poison/SoSac deck by accidentally summoning a singularity on a first turn.
Singularity multiplied itself couple of times (4 total) and then AI decided to play SoSacs.
It was a second win in Platinum after first being 1 hp deck.

Don't let nightmares in a Mono darkness, Ai sucks with those.
Wolfunit was rank 5 at that moment, with 60/6 record.
The match started bad, 8 towers and no quanta to play my discord, suddenly dusk shield and my first SoFo got killed.
Then something good happened: Ai nightmared pests, began to play those and started to deny.
One of the Gargoyles died from a GPull(SoSe <33) and the other one was guarded every single turn by my mutated Anubis.
Then another nightmare on Pests and I lockdowned him.
The 3rd nightmare on Anubis gave me enough damage to make me win.

No screens, just a story. Was playing Silver with SoSe/SoFobow still trying to finish up my shard collection (only one missing is SoW, and after countless and countless special spins (+70k score later) I still have no more than 3 of them). 4th game against RoL/Hope which can be a pain in the ass considering I don't run Otyugh or any mass CC spells.

Opponent's field was quickly filled with 16 RoL's and my damage output was then nullified. I Mindgated a RoL and a Hope for myself too so I wasn't in danger of dying but I was still doing 0 damage. Got Pharaoh from SoSe about mid game and was stuck @ 8 Time quanta for a few turns until I could play it. I Mindgated a couple of Fractals and got some serious Scarab action on. I Devoured with all my might but the Fractaled RoL's seemed endless, more and more just were summoned as I battled them.

I was going to deck-out but I managed to cut down the fields of RoL with my Scarabs down from 13 to 3 on my second to last turn. My Scarabs had gained quite a lot of attack already due to all the devouring but still the 3 damage reducing Hope was about to ruin my game. I was missing only 7~ dmg on my last turn, but I could devour some of my own RoL's and make some room for more Scarabs. I won by exact damage in the end, 23 turns later. Glad I didn't use that Hourglass of mine :)

I really wish you could thumbs up decks that you beat.  Was playing against xeresis I think and he was running a quartet (eff yeah).  It was essentially a water deck with fire pends at first so I was expecting steamies.  He got a 2nd turn toadfish and then purified my poison counters (I was using poisondials and had used 1 deadly poison at that moment).  I'm thinking... Crap, hard counter.  I topdeck and arsenic, figuring I atleast have a chance at this.  Next turn ai plays permafrost, and I'm thinking crap.  At this point the ai has out a couple abyss crawlers, as well as aether and fire pends, so it gets out an aether nymph, and a fire nymph (tears), starts raging the crawlers.  I play sosac, figuring I got this.  Then SoP shows up.  I'm  here doing 3 damage a turn, trying to stall with sosac, when the opponent can very easily otk me.  The only damage getting through was 5 poison counters.   I end up sosacing, not healing at all, Drawing all 3 sod's and getting to about 70 hp.  I sosac again, the poison gets me back up to 42 hp, and I sosac.  Then I stall with dials for like 3 turns and win.  Didn't Screenshot it, but it was 23 poison damage on 22 hp with 4 29 attack crawlers, and like 2 10+ attack nymphs.  The SoP never dropped for 9 turns, and I dialed in the middle of it.  Sosac is obviously OP.  Even with no healing it still gives 2 turns of stalling.  I wasn't even paying attention to the toadfish or steamy.  Fantastic match.

EDIT: Won an eagle's eye off that matches special spin too.

This is my favorite thread in the entire forum, we shouldn't let it die ;D

Today was the day of the upped marks.
First a wild pikachu appears with upped water marks:

Next game, Antagon with atleast 1 upped fire mark wich I have stolen to feel like a pro for a few moments o.o

Five marks of water?  That would mean he owns at least three... I had just run into another one of his arena decks where he played a couple marks of aether and several aether nymphs, and I was trying to figure out how he got those marks when his profile has no tourney/league wins.

Also, nice on stealing the upped mark of fire :)  I remember doing that to theonlyrealbeef once.  I had stolen a couple of his marks of darkness and mindgated a few more.  I was pretty mad when I missed the screenshot win due to his dusk shield failing kinda hard :p

edit: hmm... I just faced that aether deck again not five minutes after making this post... and the name was pikachu with some numbers on the end.  Now I'm really confused... :p

So, I had just gotten unupped bonestorm (with 2 upped bonewalls that I have)to beat Eternal Phoenix, my oracle prediction, and had gone to the arena to make my arena deck. While not paying attention, I clicked on platinum league and figured "Can't hurt to try, right?" I was against someone running Druids-Discord-SoFo (Opsinius or similar)

Things were going, well, pretty obviously poorly. I managed, however, to kill 2/3 SoFo's I saw before they could get past 1HP. Bonewalls helped me stall. I actually got knocked down to 1HP and tossed up my last shield. And then the AI goofed. It generated a singularity. And the singularities healed me up and kept me going. And the AI didn't use it's Druids to mutate the singularities. I thought maybe, just maybe I might win. With 0 cards in my deck, the AI finished itself off and gave me an EM. And that's how I won my first Platinum Arena match tonight.

Yeah, I got lucky with that :)  The pet was something weak like a gnome rider, but I mutated it later into something else.  Eventually it skeletonized, but apparently when mutants die to skull shield they become mutant skeletons, which is why it has dive instead of being a vanilla skeleton.  The eclipse I got from SoSe also turned out to be quite beneficial this game :)

Okay, so I'm playing a Demi-Upped Wrecking Ball (Towers, SNs, and Spiders upped) and I come across this deck in Silver. Card in Stone Skin, mark is  :entropy . I'm thinking it's probably and Oraclebow (despite that being an odd card for one) or a really clever decks. Get in, I play my Tower, and then he goes and...

He plays Aether Pillars/Towers. I'm thinking "wtf is he doing?", but I play on. Play a few cards, including a Spider and a Wings, and then he goes. And he plays Psions. And more Psions. Then upped Psions. I'm sitting here, Webbing them, hoping to draw my Mind Flayer...

But I don't. At least, not in time. He TUs my Lava Golem (doesn't matter; have Wings), and then my turn. Seven HP left, with just not enough damage to kill him.

And that's the story of how I lost to an Arena deck with 5 dead cards and a dead mark. Congrats.

Not shown: SoSa Spam, Sky Blitz turn before to crash through past the SoSa barrier, early SoBra spam being nulled by the Sanc that would have otherwise decked me, MVP Hero-Class SoFo's taking out all the SoV's before they were protected early on and giving me two Black Holes to drain ~70 life, SoSe's giving me cards to properly respond, like the Solar Shield it stole from me, (Aresnic it played itself). Fun that in even the best possible situation without rolling a Purify at any point, I still only barely win by such a small amount.

Winnings.

Ghostmare. Normally I can stomp on them with the Mummy/Rewind/SoR, but I got a slow start.

Started out fine, managing to get my Pharaoh out, along with a couple SoR before the first GotP, which made the AI Nightmare my Pharaoh. Easy win once my hand is full of Pharaohs. But then the AI started pumping out Ghosts, and played a few Vampire Daggers. Being an idiot, I accidentally discarded the Ghosts which got Nightmared (thankfully 1 at a time!) into my hand. Ended up coming down to hoping against hope that the AI wouldn't play another Nightmare... and there's the result.

Exactly. I TU'd opponent's Overdrived Pest, had SoPa out, so it've build up the damage and stayed alive. His own pest died long time ago, because of Overdrive. He Nightmared SoFo and I had enough  :gravity quanta to play 2 of them, 3rd one is TU'd. I love winning with VDB like that :D

Under pressure

Playing with PDials 34 in platinum I stumbled upon an air deck with a splash of water. On turn 3, I had to play my first Sundial, which to my surprise was immediately countered by a Shard of Patience (and also Wings). I could not allow the opponent to destroy his shard, needed a fortunate draw, had to play Sundials and then 4 Shards of Sacrifice in a row, no opponent weapon, taking 40 damage from each SoSac, finding a new Shard of Divinity just in time, always fearing a Purify. While the pressure from the opponent became simply ridiculous, even a 500 HP deck would be trembling after 12 turns of this Shard of Patience. Imagine he has a Sky Blitz in hand, he'd be close to dealing out 1000 points of damage in one turn.

How did he get that many creatures?

The game probably went on for 6-7 turns, as you can see the player has 16 cards remaining in his deck. He only drew 2 quantum towers during those turns, 1 of which got stolen. He ended up unable to play any creatures against a 1-hp opponent.
