It also helps to keep track of which decks work, and try them again with minor variations if you get a good spin.

I find the area frustrating.  If I make an original deck, I go 0-4 and drop out of the T500.  If I make a "standard winning deck (tm)", then I can make the top 100 and earn a couple hundred electrum.

It's much better for me to submit monodarkness, fire rush, or an oraclebow, than make a really original deck.

This thread's making me want to update my own guide since my guide talks more about card combos while this talks more about the basic stats.

Part of the reason you make top 100 with that is because a lot of people just submit sub-optimal decks for fun from my experience. And original doesn't have to mean bad. For example I have a Aether Nymph oracle card deck running at rank 6 (was 4 just 10 minutes ago). Gonna stop checking since every minute it's different, gonna say rank 5 a point below rank 4 at 37-2 with 23/37 thumbs up (And every deck above it is age 6+ while it is age 3).

But even ignoring massive successes like this, making original decks is less for profit and more for entertainment. Just relax and have fun, and remember that if your deck flopped bigtime you just helped some other players out massive akin to a farm. This can feel good in its own way.

Bumping this for a few reasons:
1) Someone should add this to the wiki (I'm really inexperienced in wiki code)
2) Many users should update this when added to wiki with more information
3) This is just an awesome topic and is a great guide overall. With even more advanced information, this could probably become awesome.
4) Include how Willing3 usually knows how well each of his arena decks will do in the arena and is rarely surprised.
5) Because I Can!

Thank you, as a new player this is very helpful, especially at the very beginning when a few hundred coins make a large difference.

Also, a deck higher in the top 500 gets more plays than its lower rated brethren
Zanz has denied this outright; he claims plays are 100% random.

I believe that it should actually be true that a top 500 deck would have more plays than a lower one, except the correlation would go in the opposite direction.

The decks that receive the most plays will have the highest ceiling for potential score, and in addition will have the opportunity to experience extreme positive variance. Because the time limit for arena decks is based on days rather than matches, the ability of strong decks with few plays to "catch up" with volume is constrained.

I'd guess that the bottom 500 decks also have more plays than higher rated ones.
