I believe the thumbs up/down would be more effective if thumbs down gave no electrum and thumbs up gave at least 20 electrum. Making it so clone decks actually suffer for being put in the arena and encouraging deck building. Right now a clone can make it to the top ten and still gain electrum. For my idea the only benifet for getting that high with a clone would be bragging rights.

That said, I thumbs up everyone if they used thier oracle card properly or at all.
I'll thumbs up a ghostmare if it's oracle card was nightmare.
See, that's the thing - most people won't. I had a Nightmare card and built Ghostmare with it last week. 85% of my wins were thumbs down. One guy said "Well, you should've built it with weapons." Yes, I could do that, and have a vastly inferior deck. The problem with the thumbs-up/thumbs-down system is that people want to punish you for building things that are effective. I'm sorry that effective decks are popular, but y'know what, I'll make a lot more money building ghostmare and breaking the top 20 on wins, than building some weapon-mare and going 3-losses-and-out.

I've stopped worrying about whether what I build will get a thumb one way or another. There are too many different criteria people use for anything to be predictable in whether it will please or anger. It's a crapshoot you can at best skew slightly. I build what I think will win. If people enjoy playing it, great. If not, too bad. The internet has way too many people with random pet peeves for me to chase thumbs. I'll do a lot better building a ghostmare when I get Nightmare, or building a SoSa when I get handed poison, or what have you, than I will trying to build a Weaponmare or Poison-Puffer-Chryso deck. Just how it is.

I was just wondering about this and the thread seemed to fit: how many people actually consider the deck they played against while rating? It seems that no matter what I put up, the difference in thumb-ups is negligible. Personally I thumb-up everything because hey, free gold for someone at no cost to me, and it feels like the majority just thumb-downs everything.

Also I'll sign everything the Friedrich said. I'll often try to put up something a bit different especially if I've already had success with the obvious choice, but the number of viable strats is incredibly limited if you're looking for the win rates required to top10 in plat (>90%). If you go out of your way to fish for positive ratings, you just won't win enough. The current system (which is awful) could kind of work if you could count on people consistently voting for different decks, but as it is it's like 15% for stock lists, 30% for other decks with strong cards, and for anything better you need to submit a pile of thrash.

I personnally thumbs up quite often after a lot of game, I just thumbs down boring AND uncreative decks like disco/bh, Monodeath Sosac or ghostmare & firestall.
I even sometimes thumbs up speedbow if they are quite original.

You actually don't need to submit trash for higher than 30%. "Stock lists" usually make about 30%, and deviations usually get about 45-60%. Honestly, I like trying new things out in the arena. I prefer if my decks do well, but I don't really mind if they stay lower in the rankings, since the point is that they give people a fun time. For example, I not too long ago put up a nightmare-flying trident deck with flooding as the oracle card. It surprisingly got only 37.5% approval rating, but I know it was creative enough and it doesn't matter that it went from 10-2 to 16-8 in about a day since I can just put up a new deck. The ability to put up a new deck makes losses inconsequential, and the about 40 electrum per day I might make more isn't worth making a boring deck and decreasing the fun experience for all. Plus, some decks I make get enough to make 'more' than a standard deck would.

Besides, Arena is for silly things, like putting up a farm of 29 dead cards, 6 SoSa's, full stats, and seeing it get a 3-3 rating with 1 thumbs up.

Sorry, this is kind of a dumb question, but is there any way to see how many thumbs up and thumbs down you got for your arena deck?

You can do it by knowing how much electrum your deck has gained and comparing it to wins, but there's no explicit place that you can get it from.

How much electrum does the deck gain with a thumbs-down win, and how much does it gain with a thumbs-up win? (If this is posted somewhere, sorry)

Thumbs up is twice the amount you'd normally win IIRC.

Part of this is that so many people just copy decks they see on the forums, or the deck their friend used, etc. Unusual decks can't do well - that is a myth. Darkness/Entropy, Wings, Mono-Water, Mono-Air, SoSe - there are so many good decks that aren't used simply because they're out of fashion. Remember when Timebows and mono-Life were everywhere? They haven't been nerfed since 1.26. Try something new, and you can still do well. Plus, more thumbs up! :D

The system fails because it's very hard to be impartial judge. The deck just beat you after all. Secondly if the deck you played against beats your deck, why would you want to thumb it up to have it stick around? Pissing on your own cereals much? Thirdly it's an extra complexity. Even if you just click thumb down every time, the act of clicking in most cases is without purpose. Simple is beautiful. I don't see how this suggestion was worth implementing.

I see there are much decks which are kinda original or fun, but I just beat those decks, and I lose from mono death for example (un original)
