i see it as not worth the effort it takes to make a deck for the money i'd gain. I'd be better off just farming rather than thinking up a challenging deck that isn't a carbon copy of every rainbow deck out there + oracle card.

All my decks have been fairly original, well thought ones. They (the better ones at least) usually last about 3 days, capping out at breaking into top 100. It's fun to check the win loss and optimize my next deck based on the performance of the last. But the money incentive just isn't there.

If you're happy with 3 days of being in the top 500 and making less than 1 full hp gold win, then good for you. If you're happy with using the same copy/paste deck + oracle card for an easy 100-200 gold then huzzah. I was just hoping for better when arena was announced.

Not saying "BWAAAA! I HATE ARENA!" I love the addition. But a single upgrade takes 1500 gold, and about the best you can hope for from arena funds is 1-2 ups a month. It takes effort to make a decent deck and would like to be better compensated for doing so. I guess if you're in the top 10 (or however high you gotta get to get better funds) then it is worth it, but with all my efforts i haven't broken those grounds yet, and not many of us ever will despite consistently adding new good decks.

It depends how far you are into the game. If you're a noob like me with a flimsy 7k score and just barely enough to play RoL+Hope unupped against FG's, arena will probably be a bad choice. But if you're jmizzle, who cares, you have every card already and can easily make a deck featuring the oracle card. I would farm but if I can get some free coins for not doing something too, then go for it! But if I get some random card like antimatter even though its a good card I'm not going to buy myself a 35 card deck featuring antimatters.

I honestly try not to spend too much time thinking (think <1 hour), but still put a little effort to make a deck.  Given that Platinum's advantages help compensate for my deck-building skills (or lack thereof), my last 3 or 4 seem to have done well.  I would usually get something like 15-2 or 25-4 before I change decks.  It's good enough to crack the top 100 or hover around there and I'm satisfied with logging in to Elements the next day and finding a free 100 :electrum.  And again, it's based on the oracle, because even if I have a good deck posted, I may still submit something new because I want to use the new card given to me by the oracle.

So all I'm trying to say is, you can spend like 30 minutes to make a good, somewhat original deck with some quick testing.  It's like the oracle is giving me extra  :electrum each day.

On a side note, I got Immolation as my oracle card today, but didn't make a deck because I was tired of seeing Immo rush decks all over the place.

There is definitely a bonus to having a high ranking - I played the #1 Silver a while ago, didn't see exactly what the rewards were but it was over 450 (normally 70-80 for me), which I thought was odd. My deck was at #19 but was still getting 3/game (in silver) though, so it's not Top 20.
Years ago we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash, Bob Hope, and Steve Jobs. Now we have Obama, no hope, no cash, and no jobs.
