Starting Flash Programming... in Linux https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=42768.msg533290#msg533290

It's been a while since I first tried to start programming in Flash. I did other stuff, came back and forth, started to learn other languages and everything, but in the end, I believe learning Flash would be very beneficial for my projects.

The problem is, not only I cannot find a decent tutorial / reference for ActionScript and everything, but I can't even find an IDE for Flash, or a compiler, or an interpreter, or whatever it is that is needed. Flash4Linux crashes the moment I open it, I tried installing Eclipse packages but apparently one of the fundamental packages vanished from the face of Internet... Anyone has an idea about how to start? Advice on what to try out? Anything?

I know in windows you have to get adobe cs5, but that comes with a ton of bloatware.

My best suggestion would be finding a good program for windows and running it in wine.

As for a tutorial, I know kongregate has one, but if you really want to learn how i would suggest getting a book.

Hi my friend. Adobe isn't really into supporting linux. Linux is used in minority of personal computers and flash has nothing to do with working as background service in servers which linux is good for. So noone really cares, sorry. But take a look at this link

In any case, the RIA such as flash, most likely, are going to be abondoned in a few years anyway. I recommend you to go for the HTML5 + JS route. More lightweight and works on iphone too, and soon adobe is abondoning flash on android (here). Adobe itself has focused on making html5 editors more so than flash editors. Just draw your things on canvas. And all software giants are all into supporting html5 (apple, microsoft, w3c consortium all of which hate flash).

For some html5 amusement;

Hmmm... ok, I'll look into html5 + JS then. Thank you! :)
