I thought this was gonna be some clever jab on how only we call football soccer.

And you can't change my mind, watching soccer is totally boring. It's more fun when you actually play it tho :)

i personally like football (soccer) mainly cause i play it, but handegg (american football) is fun to watch. i have to agree with john cleese about football needs no thinking because to me its just a group of large muscle guys throwing a ball around so that they can run over a line and get a touchdown...u dont need to think much to do that

Definitely football. Soccer is so boring to watch with all the people running around in circles and scoring once a game, I can't stand it.

Actually, the USA is the only country where I know people say soccer instead of football... And it seems more correct all in all. Not to mention football* (soccer) is the most popular sport in the world (maybe some chinese sport is the most famous, but you know what I mean)

That actually would lead to another discussion, and maybe to trolling, so I'll shut up :D

BTW, I like to watch american football sometimes and to play football* (soccer), and I'd like to see a poll in this thread...

*I don't like to call it soccer

I love all sports, but my personal favorites are 1. cycling (yes, Armstrong is still my hero) and 2. Football (I refuse to call it soccer).

I feel so European now.... it's just that I grew up with those sports though, they're my biggest hobbies. I don't think a poll in this thread would have any use, it's just opinions and things can get out of hand quickly  ;)

oh and btw John Cleese owns!

I like soccer more then football. Football is a lot more aggressive and it revolves around who is able to run through the most people. Where as in soccer, you have to actually dribble past someone.

American Football is like a chess game; each play is deliberately planned, and each team attempts to anticipate and overcome the other team's move. A single misstep or being out of place by a fraction of an inch can easily spell 6 points for the other team, and cost you the game. To say it's a game of nothing but pure strength is foolish.

Soccer has a lot of flow and technique to it, and for that I can appreciate it. However, there often seems to be too much buildup for little action. Often a team will break away and cause the stadium to erupt which is great but there are just too many dead spaces for me to really be able to enjoy the game. Compare to hockey or rugby (I particularly enjoy watching sevens) which both exhibit the flow of soccer and the physicality of American football.

That said, American football is my favorite sport bar none. Go Pack Go! After that is hockey, then rugby, and I do enjoy soccer but I only really watch it during the World Cup admittedly.

Soccer would be so much better if the teams were penalised for 0 - 0 draws because they are normally boring. Otherwise it is very interesting and it takes years of practice to get the skills needed to control a game. I mean look at Pele one of the greatest soccer players ever. He practised and practised and even created the bicycle kick. This kick when used correctly can look amazing and be effective. No offence to football players but they dont tend to invent so many moves these days and the ones that they do either work really well or look great and dont work that well or often. But then again i will admit that i do not follow football so much so i may be wrong.
