My absolute favorite who i used to watch was Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions (American Football). I still to this day on occasion will go to Youtube and watch some of his highlight reels. He really was quite amazing. Oh how far my Lions have fallen (well, admittedly they haven't fallen THAT far but still).

I'm a huge fan of the Colorado Avalanche, and my favorite player on the team was Alex Tanguay. I was really upset when he was traded, but he was traded through a few teams I also like, and to this day he's still my favorite player. John Elway is a close second :)
Yes, I live in Colorado. However did you guess?

Michael Jordan... I was a HUGE Bulls fan back in the day...

Tate Forcier
Albert Pujols
For those of you who've never heard of Tate, don't worry. He's Michigan's current quarterback and was a true freshman last year that started. It was just fun to watch him, since he's an option quaterback that can make some pretty damn crazy plays and always somehow pulls off those game winning drives with 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter. He may not be the best athlete ever (and probably won't go to the NFL), but he sure is damn fun to watch for Michigan football fans.

Well, for a while it was Brennan Boesch, a Detroit Tigers rookie who was in AA last year and was hitting about ~.345 up to the All-Star break. And then the Tigers' "only-half-of-a-season-can-be-good" disorder.
@Puppy: Michigan fan?

I would have to agree, If your from the Detroit area no one was bigger and Barry Sanders.
I dont know about you Mr. Blonde, but I just want to be able to watch 4 quarters of Lions football, instead of just the 1st quarter, before I start surfing for other games... I personally have not seen the Lions win a game in over 2 seasons, due to the fact that I dont have season tickets and both wins last year where blacked out due to lack of ticket sales. And the year before that was 0-16.
LOL really suxs being a Lions Faithful

As a fellow Michigander, Barry Sanders gets my nod as well.

Being from Oklahoma, I approve this nod... although OU > OSU... :)

From Indiana, nothing is bigger than basketball.
Even with the Colts doing so well...well, March of this year, no one was talking about Super Bowl loss with Purdue looking good, even in losing to Duke, and Butler making it up to the final game. And when I talk to my family, we often talk about how the Pacers need to turn it around.
Basketball is life for a Hoosier.
I could name a lot of basketball players I really like, but, of course, no one has ever measured up to one man, one of the most amazing players ever to step onto the court.
My vote goes to #31 Reggie Miller.
Now, considering how many people voted for someone from Detroit, and one for Jordan, I had best run for the hills, but, come on, even if you hated the Pacers, and I can assure you Pistons and Bulls fans, I know the feeling, you have to respect a man that can crush the hopes of a full NY venue, while also reminding Spike Lee of how terribly his team is choking.

Since I'm a huge Laker fan, my vote will be on Kobe Bryant, the next greatest guard after Magic in the Laker franchise.. :))

Tied between Muhammad Ali and Steve Nash.
What they've done as role models and what they've done for their communities in general far surpasses their incredible athletic talents.
