Using up to 6 upgraded cards, players use their 50 cards to build decks to face their opponents. This event will use World Cup style format.

1. HOW TO SIGN UP?
Anyone with a forum and a chat account can sign up for this event. Start by reading the rules very carefully. Then sign up by posting on a separate sign up topic. If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.

Maximum amount of participants for this event is 32. If the event is full, you can still sign up as a reserve player, and will get a chance to join the event if any of the 32 players doesn't show up during Phase 1.

2. GETTING READY
1. Build a cardpool of 50 cards. Pillars, Pendulums, and Mark Cards count towards your 50 cards. These cards will work as your deck and Sideboard.
- You may use all cards in the game, except the following cards:
:aether Dimensional Shield
:darkness Devourer
:death Bone Wall
:earth Graboid
:entropy Discord
:fire Fire Bolt
:time Ghost of the Past
In addition, all Shards are banned.
- You may use up to 6 upgraded cards. These upgraded cards can be changed between games.

2. PM the deck code of your card pool to the Event Organizer: TheonlyrealBeef.
- Use built-in forum deck image builder (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/Themes/default/images/bbc/deck.gif)
- If you don't know how to do this, post on this topic and ask for help.
- It's a good idea to check the "Save a copy in my outbox" box when posting the PM so that you don't forget what deck you are supposed to use.
- If you do not PM your card pool in time, you will be removed from the event.

3. GROUP ROUNDS
Players will be separated into 'Groups' with a similar number of players in each group. Players will then play the other players in their group. The top 2 players will advance to the next round of Groups. The top 2 will be determined by matches won first, then games won, then head-to-head result. The initial Round of Groups will have Groups of 4-5 players. So in case of 16 players the first round is 4 groups of 4, the second round is 2 groups of 4 and the final round is 1 group of 4.

Players will be seeded based on their finishes in their Groups. *NOTE: Each player may use 2 additional upped cards for each match they won during ALL previous Group Rounds.

4. MATCHES
Players will have 7 days to make their matches happen. They must contact their opponents using a PM, and try to find a time that suits both. Please keep a copy of all PMs sent and received, in case the fight doesn't happen. If one player is clearly more active in trying to find a suitable time, they will receive the win. Event organizer will determine who the most active player was.

Matches are best-of-five. The first player who wins 3 individual games, wins the match.

You are allowed to change your deck and mark between games.

It's a good idea to either record the matches, or take screenshots as proof, in case something weird, like a desync error, happens. If there is a dispute in a game, PM all pertinent information to the Event Organizer and continue on with that duel. The EO will look at all the information and make a ruling. Remember, a player who gets caught cheating, will be permanently banned from all Elements community PvP events, so please play fair.

5. AFTER MATCHES
Each Group will have its own Battle Results thread, where players will post their match results. All card pools will be listed in the original post so that all players can see them.

6. WINNER
Winner of the final group is the winner of the event.

7. REWARDS
The winner of the event will receive the following forum award icon: TBD

This is always a good event to run during War season.

Decided it'd be better to have groups for the final round instead of a knockout phase.

All suggestions for changes are welcome.

This will be the next event. Looking for someone who'd like to run it. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Seems like a cool event, similar to WC I think but different as you aren't limited to specific elements. Would be cool to see lots of people in this, i'd be sure to sign up!

If there is a way to both host and play, I would be interested in hosting.

If not, then I guess I`ll go for playing over hosting after having a short war and missing out on playing in WC.

Do we have to play the full 50 card deck in game 1 like war sideboard?

My understanding is, you can use 30 cards out of your 50 card cardpool. You can use however many cards from that cardpool as you want, but your deck won't ever be over 50 cards.

Hi

You progress to the next round of groups. (I'm not sure specifically what you mean?)

Is the number of allowed upgrades 6 for the whole event, or just for the first round of groups?

In the rules the knockout stage was crossed out, I took this to mean there would be a second round of round-robin style tournament, but is that how it is intended?

I believe this is what Torb intends, but we'll have to see how he responds.

How’s a winner chosen, what happens after this next round of groups?

No.

The only thing I changed in the rules was the person to send to, so I was hoping you had a grand design plan :silly:

Very well, then.
Given 32 players, you would get 8 groups of 4, the top 2 of each group advances to the next set of 4 groups of 4, whose top 2s advances to the next 2 groups of 4, whose top 2s advances to the final group where the winner is the number 1 of that group. I do not expect 32 players, so there will be one less group round with number and size of groups adjusted to match the number of participants with top 2 advancing in each group and each group having 4-6 participants.
To summarize, number of groups per round with 32 players: 8 -> 4 -> 2 -> 1 -> END
The rounds would last 2 weeks each.

The group seeding of subsequent groups will avoid putting players that have already faced one another in the same group first and foremost, secondly a decent balance of number 1s and 2s will attempt to be found, unless this conflicts with the aforementioned point.

Does that sound about right? Perhaps this ought to be included within the OP of the rules.

once the field/groups are determined, are the 50 cards posted for all to view prior to battle?

Yes, in their respective group topics.

Section 3 of the rules really is not clear, I did not have time to rewrite this during the holidays. Previous sideboard had additional upgrades during the knockout round depending on your performance in the group round. This sideboard has only group rounds, so you will get 2 additional upgrades for every match won in previous group rounds. Game wins do not count towards upgrades anymore to prevent 30+ upgrades during the final round.

The section has just been rewritten. Some important changes:
Landing in a larger group reduces your chances of advancing, but potentially allows for more upgrades to be used in future rounds.

What...I don’t think the sideboard should be posted in the group topics.

This isn't league. You post your decks after each match. It would be pointless to hide your full deck, otherwise everyone would want to play last. Pre-Revealed sideboard also prevents blind-rngy matches and allows some real strategy.

I thought we wouldn’t be posting decks at all, until the end. Otherwise our opponent pretty much knows what’s coming.

That's the point of this event. Gotta build a 50 card deck accordingly. Think of it like everyone knows each others war vault and tries to mindgate his/her opponent. If you make this a blind event, there is going to be very limited strategy involved since you will be clueless (reason I don't play leagues). There is very little mindgating if you have no idea what may/may not come. So try to build a deck that has an answer to multiple types of decks and switch cards for different opponents.

I will explicitly state amount of upgrades per player in the group topics starting next round.
