Title: 1st Sideboard Event!
Post by: Essence on July 09, 2010, 11:05:22 pm
Welcome, all challengers, to this season's Sideboard Event.  Sideboard Events are much like larger, longer versions of the weekly PVP tournament, but with some restricted deckbuilding rules.

UPPED BRACKET

UNUPPED BRACKET
(http://challonge.com/images/brackets/ETGSideboard1.png)

SIDEBOARD EVENT RULES

1. Joining

Who can join the sideboard event?
There are no restrictions. Anyone from a beginner or a seasoned veteran is welcome to join a sideboard event!

Signing up
Sign up by deciding on your deck and your sideboard (see below), and PMing Essence (don't tell him your deck!).  Signups will go until Friday, July 16th 23:59 GMT.

Two Brackets
The Sideboard Event is divided into two Brackets: one unupgraded-only, and one anything-goes.  Each bracket has a maximum of 64 players allowed in.

2. Getting Ready

Building decks
Unlike in a normal tournament, players must use one deck throughout an entire sideboard tournament, but they may swap cards on a one-for-one basis between their deck (which they use in each game) and their sideboard (which is exactly 15 cards, regardless of the size of their deck.)

Matches
Once all players have signed up, Essence will make brackets like a normal tournament, and announce matches in this thread.  Players will then have three days to play thier matches.  After three days, Essence will announce the next set of matches.  Matches will be best-of-five.  Decks and sideboards may be arranged however you please at any time.

Winning a Match
Desynchs will be replayed unless both players agree that one player was clearly going to win the match.  When a match is won, the winner will post the results to this thread.  Please post your entire deck and sideboard at the end of Round 1.  Losers should reply to this thread with their precise decks and sideboards as well.  Anyone caught not doing this will be banned from PVP Events for one season (i.e. until the end of the NEXT War.)

Details

Finding an opponent
You are responsible for finding and arranging a match with your opponent.  BCC a copy of all PMs intended to set up a match to Essence.  That way, he can tell who is making an effort and who isn't.  Players who aren't will be automatically defeated by their active opponent at the end of each three-day round.  Players who are both inactive OR both active and cannot agree on a time will both be eliminated.

Changing your deck
You are allowed to change your deck (and mark) by swapping cards between your deck and sideboard on a 1-for-1 basis at any time but you only have 3 minutes to do so. If it takes you longer than 3 minutes, it is considered a forfeit and the other player goes to next round.

Cheating
We take all kind of cheating very seriously. If you get caught cheating, you automatically lose and will be banned indefinitely from all Elements community PvP and PvE events. So please play fair.

4. Other rules

Warning system
If a player quits mid-event for any reason, or disrupts the event in any way, he will receive a warning. If you get 3 warnings in a single season, you will be banned from all PvP events until the next of the NEXT season.

If you have any questions about the rules, please post them here. Thank you.

When will this event take place and who control sideboard + deck?
Title: Re: Sideboard Event!

just a (few) quick question(s) when deciding upped/unupped...

1. Are there rewards for this event?
2. If there are rewards, are there larger rewards for winning the upped event?
3. If when you join for example you have 5 bone pillars and 5 bone towers in your deck and you gain the money to up a bone pillar, would you be able to play the rest of the event with 6 bone towers and 4 bone pillars?
4.If yes, do the same rules apply to cards like Nova/Supernova?

This event will start on Saturday June 17th.

You build your own deck and sideboard.

The reward for this event is a forum icon -- one for each bracket.

You cannot modify your deck in any way once the event begins; you must play with exactly the same deck through the entire event.  That includes upgrading cards.

I think that's everything. :)

plastiqe - 3
vs
Svenningen - 2

What can only be described as an epic matchup, I shot out to an early 2 games to none lead.  Cruising comfortably with my poison rolling and my sundials on lockdown, I knew Svenn had already used his steal and a deflag, plus his pillars weren't cooperating and he didn't have enough :fire to play another so I when I drew into a last turn dial I thought I'd sealed it.  Imagine my surpise when he draws a nova to get the quanta to kill my dial and finish me the turn before he would have been out.  While my 3 Bonewalls lurked at the bottom of the deck my lead was swept away as Svenn stormed back to take games 3 and 4.

The final game once more came right down to the wire.  All three of my Bonewalls showed up, except a momentumed Shrieker was shrieking right past them.  I needed a little luck and what I got was a costly error.  Both of us emptied our hands on the 2nd to last turn and Svenn used a Deflag to whittle down my Bonewall.  And it would have paid off if I hadn't drawn into a Sundial to save the day.

Good Games!

blast that sundial!

Essence, I dont feel the rules are that clear.

do we use posted decks in r1, and then change 1card each round, or do we get to change 1card each match?

Me and plastiqe both agreed on free reign after r1 (wich we used posted decks) to use the sideboard as we pleased, because we didnt know the rules clear. But since be both agreed, it shouldnt be a problemo, I lost with a smile on my face, EPIC games. all 5 were really close, one winning just 1 turn ahead of the other..

Between battles you can switch out as many cards as you like. You are only limited to your deck and your sideboard. Also, the size of your deck must remain constant. So if you started with a thirty card deck, when you are finished exchanging cards, the deck must be 30 cards. It must remain 30 cards throughout the whole event.

Here's the rule: if the opponent you're fighting next has posted a deck, you must post your own (i.e. you always should have the same level of information as your opponent.  NO one should ever enter a game where his opponent knows his deck, but he doesn't know his opponent's.)

Thanks for asking!

I defeated Mastermind79.  Score was 3-1.  We had some really good matches, but his quanta distribution really hurt him.

I'm not going to post my deck since dracomageat doesn't really need to post his since his opponent resigned.  If he wants to post his, I have no problem posting mine too.

ArturusX 3 - 0 Terroking

We both decided my deck was pretty much the absolute counterpoint to his, hence the sweep.  Good games all around, especially a nailbitingly close finish on the third in which had I not topdecked like a champ I'dve lost for sure.

As $$$man hasn't needed to post his deck yet, I'll refrain from posting mine.

Very nice matches, even though I lost 3-0.

The first game I went with my simple Graboid rush that was my main deck, but got horribly out-speeded by drawing only 2 out of my 16 Pillars in comparison to Arturus's first turn Flying Gavel, Fog Shield, 2 SoGs, and Chrysora.

The second time I figured to use the Pest deck as I would need some perm control, and Novas can be sucked up in a matter of turns, and got a very good draw when we started. Unfortunately he was not in the same game as I was, so I had to retry and got a significantly worse hand with no Pests and I think only 2 Towers once again. It might have ended differently had my sole Pest that I eventually got out decided to take his one :time and prevent a Graboid from evolving (It was something like a 1/4 chance), but my luck was no better there than anywhere else in the match, so of course it didn't happen.

The third game I decided to change back to my Graboid rush, in the hopes that it would do better, but I enede up pulling not 2, but 6 Towers this time, and a 7th before I drew another Shrieker.

Regardless of that, Arturus said he did not have any Novas in-hand, and I had some hope to win, until he managed to draw one on the bonus from going second. Even with all that, I still would have won the game had he not drawn a fatal Nova on the last turn, which enabled him to play a Chrysora and Poison me, sending his 27 damage up to 30 and my HP from 28 to 0.

All in all, GGs Arturus, but I hope you know that this loss does not faze me; I'll simply come back from the loser's bracket to win it all!

I defeated Mastermind79.  Score was 3-1.  We had some really good matches, but his quanta distribution really hurt him.

I'm not going to post my deck since dracomageat doesn't really need to post his since his opponent resigned.  If he wants to post his, I have no problem posting mine too.
I believe you do need to post yours, just to prove that you're using the same deck throughout. Here's mine:

And plastique, it's appropriate for you and implosion to post your full deck and sideboard to the thread now.

Thanks!
Disadvantage for peopole who finish their matches first then, because my deck is posted while others haven't even decided what to play yet.  Notice that before I've posted my decklist there are 0 purify in the sideboards.. and every single deck after I've posted has had at least 2 purify.  Oh well, sucks to be playing poison I guess lol.

Essence perhaps next time decks could be pm'ed to you like this..

OK, ddevans96 and girlsgeneration have both been trying to get together (both have been CCing me on their PMs), but both have failed to get together within the time limit.  As per the stated rules, as much as it sucks to have to do so, both have been eliminated.  Congrats on your bye in round 2, Raving Rabbid.

That said, some of you have played a round or 2 ahead -- I have no problem with that, just keep in mind that your next round opponents aren't required to play you yet. :)

That said, Round 2 officially starts today and goes through 23:59 GMT on Thursday. :)

Edit: I've recieved word that girlsgeneration has literally spent 40 hours in the chatroom waiting for ddevans96 to show up, so I'm changing my previous ruling.  I can't change the bracket graphic to remove Raving Rabbid's win (except by replacing it with a win by gg), so here's the ruling: despite what the graphic says, girlsgeneration and Raving Rabbid are to play their match out.  If gg wins, I'll change the graphic.

Needless to say, this means plastique and Raving Rabbid don't actually have a match scheduled despite what Challonge says. :)

I know it's my fault, I said on the mafia thread I had something to do, and I would be back later, but I had no intenion of failing to compete in his.

Also, that thing I had to do my parents forced me into, and I couldn't get out. So you can blame it all on me.

And another thing: I'll even explain exactly what I had to do today. If you stop trying to hurt my feelings through PM.

I had everything set up to play you, and I planned to play today, but my mom got a call from a friend last night, inviting us to the mountains.

Today, she said I had to go, despite the fact I repeatedly asked not to go, and stay here to play my match.

So I had every intention of playing, and somehing unwanted and unexpected came up.

If you want to speak to my parents directly, I'll even give you their email, if you just stop flaming me.

you could have left at least a PM for me or a message here so that I can understand your situation.

seems like you did have time to post something on your mafia thread about not having time to organize stuff.

not everyone looks through every single area in the forum. i don't play mafia, and i had no reason to visit that thread (in fact, i didn't even know that mafia really existed).

ArturusX 3 - 1 Antagon

Game 1 saw a blisteringly fast draw for me and a single pillar for Antagon.  My shards kept pace with his poison as I  depleted his stores of Sundials and Bone Walls for the victory.  Game 2 slowed things down a bit and was quite the cat & mouse game of burrowing vs. Retros and poison vs. Purify.  Eventually I chewed through all of the Bone Walls for a (much closer) victory.  Game 3 started with a near picture-perfect draw from Antagon with a Physalia, 2 SoG's, an Arsenic and 3 pillars.  The topdecked Retrovirus didn't help.  After a *long* battle, I decided to forget that Physalias cost  :water and dropped one instead of clearing my 18 point poison stack.  Doh!  Very well-played victory for Antagon.  Game 4 was dragged out by some Nova screwage for me, but was punctuated late with a double Lightning Storm to wipe his side of the board (and give him 13 bones in the process : \ ).  He threw up every defense he had but eventually fell to the tide of Shriekers and flying Gavels.  All in all, some great strategic action and good games.

I tried everything I could to improve it to no avail and so we agreed to play again another day. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to meat up again.

It's simple.  Despite your best efforts, you and Smiley56 didn't get your match played within the (extended) time limit.  Therefore, you were both modkilled.  The way this appears on the Challonge bracket is that you won vs. Smiley, but instantly lost to fnix due to modkill.

You will also instantly lose to the winner of Raving Rabbid vs. Svenningen due to modkill.

Have a nice day.

Antagon 3-1 Terroking

nice games, early arsenics every round broke his neck, paired with moderate or bad draws from him. also sundials+sogs+poison on him were great.

Well... after a chain of about 7-10 desyncs, karthikking and I managed to get in 2 successful games, and the score was 1-1. He's conceded, I presume because of a combination of not wanting to get any more desyncs and the fact that he had no way of overcoming my phase shields (and my one loss was due to a very, very bad draw - only one phase shield out of six in the first 17 cards of my deck).

The Semifinals officially start today!

Y'all have 3 days to get in touch with your semifinal opponents and have your matches.

girlsgeneration vs. implosion, you need to finish your match AND the winner needs to fight Svenningen in the next 3 days.  Good luck!

No modkills this round.  Keep it up!

Game 1 was REALLY close and epic, it went back and forth, but his lack of creatures sealed the deal.

1-0

Game 2, I had an epic start, I started with shrieker and wolf, got them both up, he killed the shrieker, i raged the wolf and he couldnt stop it,got me going, aswell with some poison stacks.

2-0

Closest of them all, fogshield saved the day!

3-0

GG Implosion =)

Svenningen 3
vs.
implosion 0

In a somewhat anticlimactic turn of events, BOTH upped and unupped Sideboard Events were decided by modkill, as the semi-finalists simply couldn't get their stuff together in time.

Congratulations Svenningen and Amilir, the WINNERS of the unupped and upped Sideboard Events!

Way to go!!!
