N = [(size of new deck) - (size of previous deck)] / 3. (For every 3 new cards, you can use 9 upgrades for one game.)
Example: If your next deck is bigger by 3-5 cards, that deck can use additional 9 upgrades, but only for one game.
  • However, if the new deck is smaller than the previous one, the user of the deck is reset to 0 upgrades for the rest of the tournament.
  • If the first deck has 30-32 cards, it must also use 0 upgrades, but the user of the deck can still increase his upgrade count later.
  • Players who cannot grow further but grew at least 6 times can use 20 upgrades. (But only after the first game with 60 cards.)
  • The following cards and their upgraded versions are banned:

Instead, send a private message to Tournament Organizers, who will privately discuss about it. Thanks for your cooperation.

TOURNAMENTS Q&A

Q: Is growing mandatory?
A: No. You can play any number of games without changing deck size.

Q: Does growing work in the match or through the entire tourney? I mean, does it reset between matches?
A: Growing continues between opponents.

Q: Do my upgrades carry over to my next deck?
A: No. After every game, you have to grow if you want upgrades.

Convoluted rules, why can't we just start with 5 ups instead of having that later rule which overwrites it in case of 30-32 decks?
That rule sounds pretty pointless. I need clarifications on the rest of the rules.

- Does growing work in the match or through the entire tourney? I mean does it reset between matches?

Tourneys are usually long enough I'm not happy that this one favors 30+ decks. :( We all know that we can ban a ton of
stallish cards and masters of this game will still find enough option for controls/stalls.

EDIT: +9 ups are not cumulative? That's the most upgrade you can play - except when you grew 6 times, and then you can use 20.
(Winning 2-1 will be better than 2-0? - Player reaches 6x growing sooner.

It seems even the TOs hate this week's rules - no one is present at the start of the tourney. :(

why can't we just start with 5 ups instead of having that later rule which overwrites it in case of 30-32 decks?
That rule sounds pretty pointless.
30-32 sized decks have the advantage of getting combo pieces faster than any bigger deck, and thus, being more consistent. You could play the entire tournament with 30 card decks and give up upgrades if your deck benefits more from it. This rule stays.

Decks with 33+ cards have default upgrades to avoid 30-card decks being the always-the-best game 1 choice. So, default upgrades also stay.

- Does growing work in the match or through the entire tourney? I mean does it reset between matches?
Growing continues between opponents.

+9 ups are not cumulative? That's the most upgrade you can play - except when you grew 6 times, and then you can use 20.
If you are confused about upgrades, just refer to the following set of rules:

In every new deck, players can use 9*N upgrades, rounded down.
N = [(size of new deck) - (size of previous deck)] / 3.

If you do the math, it will be clearer how the upgrades work.

Spoiler for Example:
Quote
+9 ups are not cumulative? That's the most upgrade you can play
That is a wrong assumption, because your deck can have 9*N upgrades. If N is more than 1, then you can use 18, 27, 36, etc upgrades in one deck.

(Winning 2-1 will be better than 2-0? - Player reaches 6x growing sooner.)
You give up size advantage to get to a future goal faster, so it is neither better nor worse.

Please read the following rule more carefully, especially the highlighted part:

  • Players who cannot grow further but grew at least 6 times can use 20 upgrades. (But ONLY AFTER the first game with 60 cards.)

I should have edited it from "when" to "after" (because I meant that) but it still stays:

I don't understand why should someone get downgraded after reaching 60 cards.

EDIT: ok, ups are not cumulative, you cannot transfer them to the next game.

We discovered in chat that the misunderstanding is about whether upgrades carry over to next games. The answer is no.
See the highlighted parts in the following rule:

  • In every new deck, players can use 9*N upgrades, rounded down.
N = [(size of new deck) - (size of previous deck)] / 3. (For every 3 new cards, you can use 9 upgrades for one game.)
Example: If your next deck is bigger by 3-5 cards, that deck can use additional 9 upgrades, but only for one game.

So, after any game, you must grow if you want to use upgrades. I am updating the Q&A.
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye, such a late goodbye...
