Title: Pillars, Pendulums and Mark cards
Post by: Submachine on November 25, 2018, 01:49:12 am
Currently we use the term "Quanta cards" for Pillars, Pendulums and Mark cards. This might be confusing, because specific spells, permanents and creatures also generate quanta and are also cards. We are looking for a commonly accepted term that is a short substitution for Pillars, Pendulums and Marks cards, and is hard to be confused with Soul Catcher, Nova, Solar Shield, Gnome Rider, Dragonfly, Firefly, etc.

The term should have 2 words or less, preferably without special characters (commas, dashes and slashes).

For this, please suggest us new terms, which we can add to the popularity poll above.

Soul Catcher is a "quanta perm", too.

Basic Quanta Sources?

Generators?

Or just pillars/pends, everyone knows mark cards are treated the same as pillars in tournaments.

I like basic quanta cards.  The rest can all be fancy quanta cards.

Before putting Basic quanta cards and Pillars/Pends on the poll, we should find similar terms that have 2 or less words and no special characters.

The term should have 2 words or less, preferably without commas and dashes.

I put up Basic sources, Pillar cards and Pillarous cards for now, because they sound similar.

Towers, Pends, and Marks can all stack. Therefore-- stackables, or stackable sources. If you waive the 2 word requirement, "stackable quanta sources" probably sounds the best.

Why not use pillars/pendulums/mark cards as the term?

Added Stackable sources to the poll.

Why not use pillars/pendulums/mark cards as the term?
Sometimes a rule is so long and detailed, that it's difficult to understand. Making that rule longer just makes it more difficult to process.
Another reason is that if this term appears frequently, it has the potential to turn simple rules into a wall of text.

By abbreviating long terms, we aim to improve the reading experience.

How about restarting the vote after all possible choices added?

Those who want to vote on something new would have to vote again either way. But without resetting, those who don't change their minds don't have to vote every time the poll is reset.

Same logic applies, but with less revotes. We also don't know how long the poll should run, so we might just keep it running, and always use the term that currently has the most votes.

New people already call EtG an MtG ripoff, so I would avoid using that term. :-\

perhaps a necro, but since this term is still used:
perhaps it should be added to the glossary (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/glossary/).

The poll recently swinged back to quanta cards - it was a tie with PPMs a few days ago. However, I noticed a few people started using the term PPM outside tournaments too (League, then War). I also noticed that less people asked for clarifications about PPMs than we received about quanta cards. Furthermore, we have been using PPMs since November, so I am safe to say people got used to it by now.

Because of these reasons, I am considering to keep using PPMs. If that's reasonable enough, we can add the term to the Glossary.

With Admin approval, PPMs are now part of the Glossary (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/glossary/). Thank you all for voting!

The poll is now locked.
