Welcome to the Faculty of Entropy

of the University of Elements!

:entropybig

12 days of an Entropic Christmas

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas Entropy gave to me 12 Shards channeling
11 Antimatters, 10 Dis Shields 'bsorbing, 9 Pandas smiting, 8 Dragons flying,
7 Elves mutating, 6 Novas bursting, 5 Chaos Seeds, 4 Lycanthropes, 3 Mark Cards,
2 Maxwell's Demons and a happy Schrödinger's Cat...

Spoiler for :-)  (-:
Each day a new line is revealed. :) Until the full lyrics is known enjoy the fantastic rendition of this classic song by Blizzard.

Our Institute has five different Departments. These Departments work tightly together since their subjects
are greatly overlapping.

With each coming day, we will reveal more and more about the structure of our Institute. Every day, you will
come to know a new Department. You will get acquainted with our teachers and our subjects bit by bit.

What is Entropy? Scientifically it is a measure of the number of ways in which a system may be arranged.
Here we also care about the mystical and arcane ways of Entropy.

Why Entropy? Think about all the possibilities! We can proudly say that Entropy will always grow and
make more possibilities available to those who don't fear mastering it!

If you wish to know more about Entropy, we suggest you to study the contents of 'Phase 1' on this link.
And of course, check our page for daily updates!

Spoiler for 2018.11.24. Practical Applications:
Today's Department: Practical Applications

Previous departments focused much on theories and theorems. This doesn't mean that they weren't interested in how
these work in vivo, but due to the nature of their study they had to put more emphasis on theoretical work. Which
means, we need experts trying out their findings on the field.

One very important note. In battle we often obtain cards from other Elements. These cards (along with all the upgraded
counterparts of already mentioned Entropy cards) are also studied by the experts of our previous four departments,
and also tested by our enthusiastic veterans here.

Many cards contain creatures. Above all previously mentioned Entropy creatures our Bestiary extensively cares about
Purple Dragons, Purple Nymphs and Abominations. Taming these beasts needs an experienced staff...

... and a truly no-nonsense leader who is able to "communicate" with them on their in level.

Spoiler for Roarr!:
Pinky Demon

A truly battle-hardened expert: fallen a thousand times in Hell and still kicking biting.
Misbehaving creatures will be rebuked.

(If you don't know Doom, you are strange.)

Shields, weapons, various permanents and spells. They are all stored in our Artifact Depository. A diverse team is
needed with extended tactical experience. As mentioned earlier, we test every kind of other permanents and spells not
just Discord and Antimatter...

Optimal usage of all sort of weapons, armors here is a must, tactical knowledge, too.

Spoiler for Warrior, conqueror, king.:

Conan

Meets all criteria... ferocious, yet not hot-headed. Vast experience in battle. Knows no fear.

These miscellaneous permanents and spells could be handled well by a cunning sorcerer.

Spoiler for We have a hero here, it is fair to have an antihero, too.:

Constantine

One of the greatest sorcerers of all time, with quick thinking and manipulative powers. Tough combo. Can help the
keepers of the Bestiary, too.

Spoiler for 2018.11.23. Natural Sciences:
Today's Department: Natural Sciences

No myths here, just hard science. But you already know the scientific interpretation of Entropy. (One interpretation,
to be exact.) Expect to know more about the scientific background of the cards (especially Entropy cards). We do not
have strict boundaries here, but in general we care more about thermodynamic and quantum mechanical
background of the cards, and we leave the really chaotic stuff to our more dedicated department in this topic.

What is Thermodynamics? "Heat-related thingies" - useful as an oversimplified definition. And true, it is about
heat, temperature, energy, work - and related concepts. Like Entropy. We could delve into the laws of thermo-
dynamics, but here is what matters most (the 2nd law): Entropy grows. Always. In time it wins - over everything. 1
The curiosity of our Thermodynamics experts are piqued by these "heat-related thingies": Dissipation Shield, Nova and
Maxwell's Demon.

Help, we need someone who is both an expert of Physics, Chemistry and Engineering!

Spoiler for Size does not matter.:
Dexter

Systems will work at optimum efficiency!

Oops! By mentioning Dexter Deedee suddenly spawned from out of nowhere, and took place in the
Department of Chaotic Endeavours! Hopefully she won't bother his brother, but if she does at least
we may have more insight into chaotic events! :)

"If you think you understand Quantum Mechanics, you don't understand Quantum Mechanics." 1 Truth has been
spoken. You may accept its rules, describe mathematically how it works, but it is just inconceivable, because things go
so differently in the micro world than in the macro world. We are used to everyday, well-visible objects, which will work
how we expect them to work. Forget that when you study molecules, atoms or even smaller particles. They behaviour
will either amaze you or dumbfound you - if none of these happens to you, then you are truly not a good student of
Quantum Mechanics. Paradoxical cards like Maxwell's Demon, Schrödinger's Cat and Antimatter are well-researched
here.

Another all-rounder science expert would fit here as well...

Spoiler for Ah, he is just in time.:

Doc Brown

What you say? He should be aligned with Time? Nonsense! On a side note, he discovered time travel, but that's
just one thing! And to be honest: playing around with the arrow of time is much like playing around with Entropy!

Spoiler for 2018.11.22. The Realm of Tyche:
Today's Department: The Realm of Tyche

"Old tales tell that luck plays a crucial role in each person's life. When each new-born enters into the Realms,
Tymora flips a coin formed from the remnants of the original goddess of luck, Tyche. Beshaba calls it in the air - the
moon (heads) or the cloak (tails). If Beshaba is right, that person is cursed with misfortune for the rest of his or her
days. If she is wrong, Lady Luck smiles on that child for the rest of his or her life. For some rare beings, the coin lands
edge on - and these luckless few can forge their own fates, for they have more freedom over their destinies than the
powers themselves." 1 2

What is Luck? Always depends on the perspective. You may consider yourself lucky when you successfully avoid
stepping into a disgusting pile of dung. Or lucky for stepping into it - if your beliefs say that stepping into dung means
luck in the future. Sometimes a seemingly bad luck can truly bring good fortune in the future. Imagine that a flowerpot
falls out of a window and crashes onto your head. Bad luck, right? In the hospital you meet a nice nurse, and you fall
in love with her. Good luck, right? You marry her. Good luck? Bad luck? I leave the decision to you... Our experts try to
get the best out of Luck-based cards - this means mainly Shard of Serendipity and Mutation-themed cards. Of course
they study Discord, Pandemonium, Chaos Seed/Power, too, but these have such a reckless behaviour, that it suits
better the Chaos or Probabilities experts.

The head of this section is a true master of luck, and like The Mask, an experimental speci(wo)men, too.

Spoiler for Getting out from every situation unscathed.:
Domino

I wonder if it is boring to be lucky all the time. :)

Science-wise luck is when you win against the odds. (If the odds are with us and we win... well, we usually find that
normal. :) ) That's why we care about Probabilities. Using mathematical formulas we can figure out the possible
outcomes in different situations. This is important to all Elements, but especially to our beloved Entropy: remember
those cards listed a few paragraphs higher?

Who would be the best candidate to supervise such experiments? Imagine a man who lives his entire life
under the spell of probabilities.

Spoiler for It is all about the cointoss.:

Two-Face

Isn't that special coin wear out?

Spoiler for 2018.11.21. Department of Endless Cycles:

Today's Department: Endless Cycles

Our world consists of Endless Cycles. Materials break down, get degraded and new materials rise from their remnants.
Chemical bonds cease to exist just to be replaced by fresh ones. Our world is like a huge Lego castle under continuous
construction. Parts of it are deconstructed, other parts are reconstructed, while the whole entity transcends, transmutes
into something else slowly.

It is hard to separate the study of the individual changes from the understanding of the whole (sections have a shared
interest in a few cards), but our Department manages to do it. Still, it is important for the two sections to work closely
together

Our Deconstruction/Reconstruction experts care more about what kind of changes take place at a microscopic level
(down to the subatomic level). They are actively participating creating deconstructing and reconstructing effects while
studying these changes. Mutation-themed cards are particularly liked here, since they represent both action. Purely
constructive (Nova) and destructive (Butterfly Effect) cards are also respected and studied well.

The head of this department is also the lab rat Well Respected Experimental Specimen of the Faculty.

Spoiler for You can change into anything if you are...:
The Mask!

Due to his chaotic nature he's often found at other Departments (especially Chaotic Endeavours) or just nowhere in
the Institute...

Yes, some video documentation again. :)

Transmutation. The delicate art of changing one substance into another. This section has more of a philosophical than
scientific approach to the problem. They are more interested about the whole than the parts. In their view the whole is
more than just a collective of its parts. If you want to assign a well-known concept to this section (and you haven't
figured out it yet), we'll help you out: Alchemy. Thus, they are also fascinated by cards related to Mutation, and the
abundant birth of elements by Nova causes them a lot of joy (and thinking, too). It is no surprise that they like shape-
shifters and try to figure out the secrets of the Lycanthropes.

You may noticed that we try to employ the best teachers/scientists. And who is the master of all
alchemists?

Spoiler for No real dispute here.:

Hermes Trismegistus

The Greek god Hermes or the Egyptian God Thoth? Or both? Legendary alchemist who wrote the fabled Emerald Tablet,
which contains the secret of the prima materia (needed for creating the philosopher's stone) and its transmutation among
other things.

Some source material for the 'bookish' type of students.

Spoiler for 2018.11.20. Department of Chaotic Endeavours:
Today's Department: Chaotic Endeavours

Yes, Entropy isn't plainly about chaos, but getting more and more possible arrangements for a system kinda means that
by the process we'll eventually achieve a more chaotic state than the previous. Expect some chaos-creating experts here!

There are two sections: Chaos and Subversion.

Chaos section's teachers and scientists love to study everything that can produce some random effects which will
probably aggravate our foes. Also, we have to pay the small price of a possible backfire. It isn't surprising that the
favorite cards here are Discord, Pandemonium and Chaos Seed.

And who would be the best candidate for sowing the seeds of chaos, producing pandemonium, being discordant
and wreaking havoc, too?

Spoiler for It has to be pink...:
Fuzzy Lumpkins!

If you have any doubts, please check this video. :)

Spoiler for Our randomly spawned guest teacher:
Deedee

All we know about her, that she is chaotic, unpredictable and likes to wreck stuff...
Sounds promising!

Experts of the Subversion section think that there are situations where instead of resorting to direct chaos it is more
advisable to undermine our opponent's efforts. How true is that! In the spirit of this philosophy they value Antimatter
and Maxwell's Demon more than any other card. Butterfly Effect won't hurt (you), too, and sometimes dabbling in
Mutation-related cards (however another department has the true experts of the latter).

And who are the real masters of subverting thoughts?

Spoiler for Do you have kids?:

Calvin!

Some proof, if you don't know Calvin...

Spoiler for Talkin' about subversion...:

Spoiler for Wrecking tables just for kicks:

Spoiler for Loves probabilities, too:

Spoiler for You think he is not scientific enough?:
