Why should we run your event? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=40479.msg501464#msg501464

There are over one hundred pvp event suggestions, of all styles and flavors, currently awaiting our perusal in hopes of becoming a reality. This is fantastic, but it makes the task of choosing the best a rather daunting one. Before simply browsing through and picking whichever one happens to catch my eye, I would like to invite you to make a case for why you believe a particular event should be given precedence over others. Is it fun? Is it creative and fresh or just a large tourney? Is it easy to run? Are the rules simple to understand or will they require constant Organizer rulings? Does it bring booming financial success and true love to all who participate?

I know how hard many of you have worked on these ideas, so don't let this chance pass to tell us all why we should be excited to run your chosen event! Post in this topic with your reasons, a link to the event, a letter of recommendation from the deputy mayor, etc. Only one post here per event please (if you've got an army of supporters, have them spam the event idea topic itself).

Event Name: Rags to Riches

My event idea explores a deeper way to approach deck building as well as testing the skills of players to a higher degree. Giving players a demanding test is not new to events, but this one has its own "little something extra" - a spiciness if you will.

Rags to Riches just seems to be an "upgrade" to the previous event, Sideboard. I would like to say that it's much more.

The introduction of the "Card Shop" makes this event unique and interesting, hopefully grabbing the attention of many.

This event gives players the opportunity to build off what they earn, which could be difficult if you're stuck in the rags with little gold. Like the real world, success brings wealth, and wealth brings power.

Despite all of the wealth someone may bring into the competition, their luck may run out down the road with unfortunately weak card packs while others are forming powerful card pools. You have the gold, choose what you do with it, and try to make the right to decisions, or you could be leaving the rich and falling back into the rags.

Are the rules simple to understand?

Well, I would hope so! They seem pretty easy to follow, but I am the one who wrote them. If the proper threads for the event (Card Shop Thread, Battle Thread) are done properly, everyone should have an easy time understanding what cards they can use, as well as their opponent [Visual representation of the card pools].

Is it easy to run?

If this event gets enough support, I believe it will have enough potential to run smoothly. What I mean by that is, if the community is willing to help, the Card Shop could be created into much more than a simple table and thread that people post in to buy and sell packs/cards. It could be the coolest thing ever brought into an event. Giving players the option to click on a pack of cards and let them see all of the cards they've just earned would be amazing. (I feel like this could be done with a few simple tweaks to Xeno's RNG'd decks)

Other than that, being able to run this event should be a walk in the park if everyone cooperates.

I don't have much else say but this: Players who participate in this event will see that there are so many possibilities and that no matter how far they get, they'll see that they've had to learn a new way to approach EtG and deck building.

Fun?I think everybody likes racking up tens of thousands of points in pinballesque fashion!
Creative and fresh? To my knowledge no Event has run that used any of the mechanics Scorgasm does.  Events like Grid force players to constrain their own deckbuilding while balancing greed, so I guess this does bear some resemblance in some ways.
Easy for Organizers to run?Scorgasm uses a Google doc to build rounds, so the Organizer would need a little proficiency with docs.  But not a ton.  The doc is set up so that the Organizer can make a copy of the tab, then copy and paste special values to lock in random variables.  I don't think the events each round would require a lot of rulings, but if they do the questions will be easy to head off as the Organizer creates the round posting.
Easy for participants to understand?I think so.  All of the complexity is baked into the spreadsheet, so participants don't have to view any formulas if they don't want to.  Additionally it's easy enough to create a duplicate spreadsheet so players can test the points they'd receive while they're decksbuilding.
How could this fail?I think some players are likely to "get" the points system faster than others and take a lead.  But because points ramp up as the Event carries on, I think there will be enough opportunities to catch up.  The only other way I could see it fail would be if the point system is broken and somehow pushes players to all use Flooding decks every round or something.  I don't think this is at all likely but we can't be positive until we've seen it in action.
Other notes? This Event came from a complete overhaul of the rules of an Event I created and tweaked for over a year.  Scorgasm is now pretty polished but feedback is still very welcome.

Risk of Elements

Have you been waiting for WoE? Are you still hoping it will start 'soon'? Well, you will have to wait 'a little' longer. But in the mean time, lets play another event where you can capture tiles to make your team stronger!
  • Fun: e~yup
Helping out newer players in your team / being helped by veterans? - Defenitely!
Making diplomatic relations with other teams to beat a strong opponent? - Sounds awesome!
Breaking those relations to stab your most hated team in the back? - This is WOARRR!
  • Creativity: e~yup
See on the map how well the teams expand their territory.
Defeated teams can still troll around and might even get a chance to win after all!
I went all out on my Paint skills to make that map! (some credit pls :3 )
  • Easy to run: n~ope
Takes probably an hour for the organizer to evaluate all the moves by the teams each round and update the picture :/
Each round the Deckbuilding rules change, so newer players would have to get help from veterans.
This would need someone very dedicated to keep it up. But IMO, it'd be worth it.

King of the Hill

Always wanted to join BL, but didn't like the lack of restrictions? Want to try out a veteran-friendly tournament? Then sign up and get the party moving!

  • Fun: e~yup
    Very tactical games.
    Veteran friendly.
You can always sign up again.
  • Creativity: e~yup
Combined League with more fun elements.
Heavy restrictions which get even tighter as the event progresses.
  • Easy to run: : e~yup
Updating the points can easily be done using a Spread Sheet.
No need to make it all in one go, you can do it whenever a battle has been reported.
    Charakter sheets easily managable.
    Easy deckbuilding rules.

Fun?Random Deck Generator. Pokémon. Whee~
Creative and fresh? No events run so far have used Xeno's Random Deck Generator. Being able to customize those randomly-generated decks through the Custom Point system is also a plus. Also, simulated Pokémon battling in a "pick 3 from 6" 3v3 format.
Easy for Organizers to run?The organizer just needs to make sure that players are keeping their character sheets updated, receive swap PMs each round, generate new random decks, make the Swiss match-ups, and post match-up threads each round. Mostly upkeep stuff that doesn't require rulings.
Easy for participants to understand? The Custom Point system is pretty intuitive. The 3v3 battle system might take some thought to wrap around, but it's quite simple.
How could this fail?If players modify their character sheets when they aren't supposed to, then it might cause problems. Fortunately, the Organizers should have all players' character sheets logged in case this happens.

Fun?
Snake and ladder in Elements? And race against time too?
I'll be waiting.
Creative and Fresh? You are given the chance to choose your weapons, and part of your opponent's weapons, too. You're never doomed, until when you're already dead, and you're going to be eliminated if you lost too much.
Easy for organizers to run?If the organizer finds it too hard to keep tile positions updated, a google doc can be easily made.
Easy for participants to understand?Definitely. The only thing they may not understand is how they got caught in a trap :>.
How could this fail?It could fail only if the organizer makes a terrible error. Or disappears halfway.
Something more about the Lost TempleThe so called "map" is actually a straight line, and thus can be just a list of position and tile elements.

Fun?The RNG has usually been claimed to be the reason many people dislike PvP events. Being solely in control of what you draw, not just what you play, adds a new level of skill to the game, and for most, a sense of enjoyment.
Creative and Fresh? As far as I can tell, all other PvP events, even the large ones like War, have been based somewhat around RNG. They've all had an element of RNG in them. It may also be the first PvP event that is actually held outside the game, though effects and all that still occur the same, which is why it is a PvP event, and not a Forum Game.
Easy for organizers to run?It does require a lot of time to make sure matches have been played correctly, though not too much effort is necessary.
Easy for participants to understand? The hardest part about it is getting one's head around the style of play, and that can easily be rectified by a simple game organised before the event with someone who is skilled in the area. Some players may even already know how it works, and be perfectly fine with playing.
How could this fail?It would fail if most people decide to cheat, which I am sure will not happen, as almost all players enjoy the skill of matches like these and would regard it as something not even to be considered.
And finally, why you should use RNG-less:THE RNG HAS BEEN A DECIDING FACTOR IN TOO MANY PVP EVENTS. ELIMINATING IT WILL BE THE BEST THAT HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PLAYERS.
Beware the Darkness.

Cygnia - Quartet Bash https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=40479.msg1209045#msg1209045

Garden variety tournament, but played on Cygnia and focused on quartet strategies.
The only rule:
-You may not use any pillars or pendulums other than the Spritual, Material, or Cardinal pillars.
-The only upgraded cards allowed are upgraded quantum lockets.

As long as I can remember, the common gripe about non-rainbow multi-element decks is that they lack a reliable quanta source.
Well... In cygnia that just got a major helping hand.
This tourney would finally let deck builders have some fun pitting some of those crazy deck ideas against each other.
