Well. The bill was passed into law on the 31'st of December.

Toast for the collapse of all human and civil liberties. We all know countries start to collapse when someone can legally vanish on their way to the groceries, be sent back to their home country, and be "punished", in various ways, for criminal acts that are convicted on you without trial, and they don't even need to tell you anything.
The bill being passed is only 1 of many steps to that effect.
They still need to:
Have a president willing to violate our rights.
Have said president violate our rights.
Survive the backlash to each step including the NDAA.

We have not lost yet.
It's important to be aware that this bill isn't really going to change how the US operates, because the rule of law is already being ignored. This simply helps to legitimize the blatantly unethical conduct of the government. Have you heard of Anwar Al-Awlaki? His rights were violated by a drone that killed him. Have you heard of Gulet Mohamed? He was detained and tortured in Kuwait. Both were American citizens who were never charged with crimes, but since they have exotic-sounding names, you likely haven't heard about them. There are many more like them, but those were the first to come to mind.

And what backlash? The establishment media didn't report on this bill at all. Granted, those who pay attention to things like this aren't happy, but most people don't. "They" apparently have nothing to worry about.

Though it's certainly debatable, I'll agree that we haven't lost yet, but the time for lazy optimism is long past. Something must be done besides talking. It's our civic duty.
