Oh no, strawman!  Strawman!
EDIT: The last question goes in bottom of my argument, and is kind of a challenge to people who think gay people shouldn't marry (I actually haven't seen anyone actually stating that in the post, but the poll says something a bit different)

As Kami says best, nobody is really against the idea of homosexuals becoming life partners and receiving the very same tax and other benefits that marriage offers.  We are just against the idea of calling it marriage, which, whether it is realized or not, does have religious connotations associated with it.

This has been asserted, argued and refuted several times in this thread. Marriage is related to religion but was not originally designed for it nor does it need to be done religiously

Understood :)
As I said, what is "correct" for the Church (I don't believe in it, but it's the main complainer) has changed over the years, and it's accepting more and more new tendencys, attaching to principals of love and understanding... So I guess soonly or later marriage will include same sex individuals, as most people believe in equal rights

so how about i form a religion that allows gay marriages so the term will still have religious meaning to those of you who say "no gay marriages... but you can be called butt buddies and kitty cuddlers to get the same legal rights... just dont use OUR WORD! its OUR WORD! you cant use it! our word is religious!"

This is a good point. Why is it that Christianity gets the word marriage?

I do think that homosexual couples should pick their battles though. First get the legal benefits associated with marriage, then worry about the word.

Nobody is stopping you--go ahead.  We'll see how strong a movement it becomes.  One might imagine it would have most appeal to same sex couples, so I'm not sure how long-lived the movement would be beyond the first generation or two, but then again I've never started a religion, so what do I know?  It would still seem to be a political movement more than a religious group since you're focus is on a political issue and not so much on a divine experience, but if you feel that God (or gods) call you to start such a project, who are the rest of us to stop you?

You realize that in canada and several other countries there are people in preexisting religions (like christianity) who conduct gay marriages. Also its not like gays never come into existence. gay people come from straight or bi parents.

I understand Jedi is a religion in Canada too.  But that's getting a bit off topic...
