Title: Path of Exile
Post by: Demagog on May 14, 2013, 11:23:14 pm
Anyone else play this? Diablo-like game, free to play, for those that haven't heard of it. In open beta at the moment.

I play on default league as Azurinel.

I know it's necro, but I started playing this recently and I must say I like it. Even though I'm not usually into this type of game, this one caught my eye.

I'm also considering creating a guild if there are any other people around here that play.

I think this game is more fun with a group. I have yet to finish it, and the friends I do play with refuse to play the game normally (they're sprinting to end) so I anyone I's interested in playing normally I'll join up

I think sprinting to the end IS normal :P Given that the emphasis is on 'hardcore' players-- the new patch is entirely about the endgame system.

I played a bit in open beta (got to around level 60, didn't beat Merc Piety(By extension, no Dominus/Malachai), but I've only been able to play it sporadically since then. I'd be interested in joining up, but with how my computer is I doubt I'll actually be able to play much.

If we can get people I would definitely consider redownloading it.

Okay, I created a guild. It's name is "Elements the Game (Guild)".

I'm playing on the Frankfurt server, if it matters.

Gateway locations that are far away will probably have a bit of increased latency when playing together, but otherwise shouldn't matter. More importantly, what League are you in? Standard, HC, or the new seasonal leagues?

uhh, I don't know. Standard, I guess. How can I tell?

If you've had the character for longer than, say, a week or two, probably Standard. You can check by looking at the character selection screen, it should say so in the same place you go to select it.

Essence League, apparently.

Whoo, necro-post.

3.0 is currently in beta, there's some serious hype over it-- FIVE new acts replacing the old normal-->cruel-->merciless progression.
Also, apparently they nerfed Merciless Piety, because I somehow beat her on my first character. :D

Apologies for necroing again, but when I saw the name come up, I had to chime in.  When I asked my cousin about a good MMO to play, he suggested this one.  I was thinking of giving it a try, and it would make things a lot easier/more fun if there were others around who are also playing, for guilds or groups or whatever.

I remember having a lot of fun with this game, only things holding me back are that my laptop tends to run really hot and I cannot progress to endgame content fast enough before my character turns into a bland standard character.

Piety isnt really that hard when you know what to do in each phase (or build your resistances to specifically counter 1 phase and avoid her during the others). only mandatory boss I had to way overlevel was Dominus (but hey I never even played through act4 past the point where I suddenly dropped dead in Kaoms dream (lag maybe? i only saw some fire underneath me and no opponent around); I wouldnt have ragequit if it wasnt the end of the season anyway, things might have changed alot).

Hehe, as a point of reference, when I quit my first character, Piety was still the end-game last-boss-before-maps, and I was one-shot, frequently. With max res, so I probably just didn't have enough life nodes. The passive tree probably got reset enough times that I finally picked a good one this time :P

Also, what do you have against standard? The economy's flooded, sure, but that just makes it even easier to get the stuff you want to mess around with new builds. There's less of a focus on the new content, but everything (usually) gets added there after the temp league ends.

Well, if any of you make characters in standard, my stash has plenty of junk to give out. Just let me know and I'll invite you to the guild. Current character:

We now have a guild stash tab! It has... 144 skill gems.

Also, stash tab bundles are on discount for this weekend. These pop up once every few months. Not much point to them when you're starting out, but if you get into the game then they're well worth it.

So I just got my new computer and I may be able to run this game now!

Anyone still on the hype or does nobody play anymore?

I'm kinda hyped still, but it seems like I cant get a satisfying consistent framerate on my middleaged laptop, at least while in a party and if I had my laptop on in the last 24 hours (I think it actually gets much better when it fully cooled down, but that just doesnt last and usually Im online to frequently). Also I'm kinda to busy with other stuff rn, I have to carry a war team basically on my own and have some rl obligations too.

The 3.0.0 patch was kind of buggy, I took a break afterwards and haven't looked at it since. It's probably fixed by  now, so I'd be up for it.
