Title: Gotta Catch Some Of Them

Welcome to my Platinum Nuzlocke!
After seven failed attempts, I embark on a journey to defeat the dreaded Cynthia with Nuzlocke rules. Now I have more experience than ever, but to keep things somewhat blind, I am playing Platinum instead of Diamond.

It's been a while since I did my blind Emerald Nuzlocke (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/pcvideo-games/'i-wanna-be-the-very-best-like-noone-ever-was~-98349835'/). Not many people know, but that was just a few months after I lost my seventh Diamond Nuzlocke (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/pcvideo-games/pokemon-question/msg1216353/#msg1216353). In my seven attempts, I haven't ever gotten to the Elite Four, but I at least saw the entrance. :-\

But now it's gotta be different. I have three years worth of experience in competitive pokemon games, so I should be able to take on Cynthia now. :)

Here are my special rules for this runthrough:

Many points were transferred from my Diamond Nuzlocke rules. I don't know if there will be fossils, breeding and dual battles, but it's the best to be prepared for anything.~
  • The starter Pokémon must be randomly chosen.
  • Every Pokémon must be given a nickname.
  • In every new area, only the first encountered Pokémon can be caught. If the first encountered Pokémon dies or runs away, you fail to get a Pokémon from there.
  • Exception: Maximum two duplicates. If the first encountered Pokémon is already present twice in your team, you can choose to run away. The Pokémon who you don't want to catch must not die or flee before you can run away.
  • If you already caught a Pokémon in an area, that area is off-limits for catching new Pokémon.
  • If a Pokémon faints, it is considered dead and has to be released.
  • If the first encounter is a 2-vs-2 battle, you are free to decide which Pokémon you want to catch.
  • NPC trades are allowed.
  • If all 6 Pokémon in your party faint, the game is over and you lost, even if you had reserves in the PC.
  • Items cannot be used on your own Pokémon in battle.
  • You can equip and change your Pokémon's items, but only outside battle.
  • Legendary, Ultra Rare, and Shiny Pokémon can be caught, but only as trophies if catching them would be otherwise illegal.
  • Only the first found fossil can be revived and used.
  • Any amount of eggs can be hatched, but only one can be used. If a hatched Pokémon already entered a battle, all other hatched and unhatched eggs must be released/stored.
  • If the game accidently crashes, you don't have to reproduce your previous run since your last save. Play by the normal rules again.
  • Dead Pokémon can be used on the world map for using HMs. Dead HM slaves can avoid being released, but they must not be switched into battle.
  • If the plot heals up a dead Pokémon who was in the first slot and then carries you right into a new battle, you can use it to absorb some hits, but it must not attack or change stats of the opponent.
  • Legendary Pokémon must not be caught with a Master Ball if there is more than 1 Pokémon alive in your party.
  • If something is unclear because of unexpected game mechanics, the rules should be updated.

So let's load up the game and start with our adventure!

It's been a while, Professor Rowan. Three years, if I am correct. In fact, it has been so long ago, that you forgot if I am a boy or a girl.

"Are you a boy or a girl?"

(https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/2f/Platinum_Lucas.png/220px-Platinum_Lucas.png) (https://i.imgur.com/C81QQ2I.png)

I'm gonna stick with boy for this one. I should also remind Rowan what my name is, because it seems he also forgot that. ^^" In my previous attempts, I used 'NuzLock' as a name, but since I used a different (and more presentable) name in my public Nuzlocke, I'm gonna use that one.

Welcome to the Pokémon realm, Reynold!

But wait, who's this little bugger?

I completely forgot that I can rename my rival. In the show, his name was Barry, but that's not very intimidating, so let's call him Zane. Zane and I have quite a history in Nuzlockes, but I will get to that when we reach the appropriate points in the game.

After the professor finished his monologue, I am immediately interrupted by all the people in the world.

Zane jumped at me inside my room, Professor Rowan found us while we were supposed to find him, and Dawn found Rowan while he was scolding us for being reckless. The good news are that we get our first Pokémon within the first two minutes. :) That's already a big change compared to Diamond.

(https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/5/5c/387Turtwig.png/250px-387Turtwig.png) (https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/76/390Chimchar.png/250px-390Chimchar.png) (https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/b/b1/393Piplup.png/250px-393Piplup.png)

This is it! Time to get my starter Pokémon. I'm gonna roll a normal 6-sided dice to decide.

1 or 4 = Turtwig
2 or 5 = Chimchar
3 or 6 = Piplup

The dice rolls and it stops at the number 1. Welcome to the team, Turtwig! :)

Lucas: Ow!
Barry: Come on turd, we gotta go!

But of course Zane picks Chimchar, which is super effective against Grass. And if that wouldn't be enough, his first thing to do is to 1v1 me with a type advantage.

You are challenged by PKMN Trainer Zane!

Oh shit! Two of my past Nuzlocke losses were because this guy ambushed me when I least expected him. >_> I cannot lose this Nuzlocke on the first duel, I must pull through!

My Turtwig can raise its Defense, but his Chimchar can lower my Defense. I have Tackle, but he has Scratch. Before attacking, I wanted to raise my Defense to +2, but he keeps lowering it. After I used my 10th PP for my defensive move, he finally stops lowering it and starts scratching instead. Time to counter-attack! With only 10 HP left, Turtwig defeats Chimchar and grows to level 6. :)

Lucas: I refuse to watch him charge an evil team that lacks emotion.

The next day, I get my running shoes and bump into a guy named Cyrus outside our small town. This game really is fast compared to Diamond, huh. For those who haven't played Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum yet, don't worry. Surely he won't be anyone important later. :P

I am rushing down the first route to get my Pokeballs, but I am interrupted by a Starly - who I sadly cannot catch yet. :( By the rules of this Nuzlocke, I do not get any Pokémon from this route.

Lucas: Compadre peons trying to shoot for a star,
Lea
ve before I report you to Jupiter Mars.

But then I finally get to Rowan's laboratory, where Rowan, Dawn, and Zane are waiting for me.

"Do you want to give a nickname to Turtwig?"

I sure do. But now I gotta come up with a fitting nickname, which tends to be tricky. I thought long and hard before arriving at a final decision.

(It's supposed to be a pun between thorn and fang. ^^")

OH YES THIS IS BACK HOORAY
I see you are as excited as I am. :D Let's see what else happened today.~

I left off in Rowan's laboratory, where I gave a nickname to Turtwig. After this, a lot of stuff happened, but I try to be brief. I got the following missions:
While I was doing these, I got the following things:
But some of these happen later in the story. On my way to Jubilife City, Dawn intercepted me to show how to catch a Bidoof.

Lucas: This group called Team Galactic is stupid,
Ruled by a ruthless rabid doofus
.

Just for giggles, I will add one of these small puns whenever a GEN 4 pokémon shows up. :silly:
If these are distracting, I will put them in spoilers.

She showed up at the right time to teach me how to catch a Pokémon, because I was just about to catch my second team member. :) I ran head first into the tall grass, and met the following fellow:

Lucas: I’m gonna get my redemption! Just not like Shawshank’s...

I was very happy to find an Electric type this early, even if it only knows Tackle now. ^^ After throwing 4 Pokéballs, Shinx was finally caught! I named him SONIC and checked his stats. His ability is Rivalry, which raises SONIC's Attack power by one stage if the opponent has the same gender. This looks like a rare ability, because almost all other Shinxes I met knew Intimidate instead. Regardless, this ability might come handy later.

While I was fighting the random trainers on the way to Jubilife, one of the trainers with a Kricketot almost killed THORNANG. :-X The opposing Kricketot used Bide, which accumulates damage for 2 turns, then deals double of that damage to the opponent. Luckily I knew how dangerous Bide can be, so I didn't attack again until Bide wore off. We lived through that Bide with 4 HP. After that battle though, THORNANG learned Absorb. :)

Lucas: I’ll follow my conscience as a cricket ought to do.

When I finally arrived at Jubilife City, I met Dawn.

Dawn: "Hey Reynold, how is the Pokémon catching?"
Dawn: "Oh... You should go catch some more."
Reynold: "Shush, Dawn! This is a Nuzlocke, go mind your own business." >_>

In Jubilife City, I met a guy called Looker, who is a member of the international police and I think returns in Pokémon Sun/Moon. If the story goes anything like in Diamond, he will be of no relevance here.

The thing that has relevance is that I found Zane, looking at blackboards in the Pokémon School, among a bunch of preschoolers. After I delivered him his parcel, I checked what he was looking at. The blackboard said "Fire beats Grass, Grass beats Water, Water beats Fire". What a noob. :silly:

This noob ain't harmless though.

That's right. One of his dangerous traps was right outside Jubilife City, at a perfect place to catch me off-guard with only 2 underlevelled teammates. I know it, because I wiped there once. To avoid certain defeat, first I had to catch another teammate at a different exit. This is how I met ZERIA. :)

Then all I had to do was to grind SONIC and ZORIA to acceptable levels. The grind is now over, so next time, we're gonna take Zane's "surprise" challenge.~

Title: Re: Gotta Catch Some Of Them
Post by: Submachine on January 10, 2019, 05:56:53 pm
On Tuesday, I managed to arrive at Eterna Forest, but then I confused the controls with that of Subnautica, and tried to save game by pressing Escape. The result was the game closing without saving. x_x Yesterday, I tried to recover some of the lost progress.~

Zane waited for me outside Jubilife City as expected. In the unsaved game, he put up some fight, but not too much. I wasn't as cautious this time, so I let THORNANG go first.

First Boss Battle: Pokémon Trainer Zane

>> You can see the video here. << (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-dJ7_EwDnc&list=PLKGdnCYoaOxIlFyc_bc8yRpOWaotSOHad&index=1)

First matchup: Lv.12 THORNANG vs Lv.7 STARLY. Alright, Zane. Show me a good fight! Oh, nevermind, because all his Starly does is Growl, Growl, Growl. I Tackle a few times with THORNANG, then switch to SONIC when my Attack is low. SONIC finishes Starly with a few more Tackles.

(https://img.pokemondb.net/artwork/vector/large/chimchar.png) (https://vectors.pro/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/zubat-pokemon-character-vector-art.png)

For the upcoming battle against Chimchar, I sent out ZERIA. Second matchup: Lv.9 ZERIA vs Lv.9 CHIMCHAR. ZERIA started out strong with a successful Supersonic. After that, Chimchar hit himself in confusion three times, then used Leer two times before ZERIA could finish him off. Though I wonder if Chimchar was not confused, would have he used Leer, Leer, Leer just like Starly did? I guess we'll never know. But what I do know is that we beat Zane with zero damage! :D

After Zane rushed off, a new route was open to catch a new Pokémon. I was excited to catch a Shinx with the Intimidate ability, but then I was reminded which Gen I was playing.

It's-a-me! Bidoof!

I named her BABIDYBOO, which name still makes me chuckle sometimes. After that, I battled the trainers on the route and entered the nearby cave. In there, I got an unexpected teammate, a Psyduck. :) With Psyduck, I had a solid Plan D for the upcoming gym. To get there though, I still needed a Machop for Plan B and a Geodude for Plan C. Before that though, I had to give a name to Psyduck. I couldn't think of any name for a female Psyduck that starts with P, so I went with the first thing that came to my mind.

"Hey team, say hello to PELICAN!"

Not to be confused with Pelipper. :silly:

After a few battles, I finally arrived to Oreburgh City. Before I could do anything else there, an NPC showed me the way to the gym, where Zane was already waiting for me. He really stands out of the crowd, because the NPC instantly noticed him.

(https://i.imgur.com/SpGJYhY.png)   (https://i.imgur.com/H2QLnCG.png)

NPC: "He's sort of twitchy and impatient."
Reynold: "Oh, come on Zane, don't be so twitchy in front of everyone."
NPC: "Is that guy your friend?"
Reynold: "NOPE, never met him." (http://elementscommunity.org/chat/skin/smilies/whistling.png)

Zane was blocking my way into the gym, so I went to other places instead. In the Pokemon Center, a guy offered me to change my trainer type. The options didn't have much variety, but I took the one I liked the most.

"Reynold evolved into Rich Boy Reynold!"

Later I learned from Zane that Roark, the gym leader, is at the Oreburgh Mine, so I started heading there. But before that, I went up to the northern route to catch a Machop. Machop is a perfect catch at this point, because I can use him now against Roark, then trade him for an Abra when he reaches Lv.20.

(https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/es.pokemon/images/2/2b/Machop.png/revision/latest?cb=20080909112724) (https://vectors.pro/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/abra-pokemon-character-vector-art.png)

My next stop was Oreburgh Cave, where I hoped to catch a Geodude. However, the game decided that I cannot catch the most frequently encountered inhabintant of the mines. Instead, I found a second Zubat. I was not very happy about it, but it's better to get the Zubats early, so I was eager to catch this guy. A random critical hit however accidently killed it, so I don't get anything from Oreburgh Cave. :/ I found the gym leader in the mine, and he promised to shoo Zane from the gym entrance.

It was time to train my team for the gym. We trained long and hard, until we reached a reasonable level. THORNANG learned Razor Leaf, MARK learned Karate Chop, and PELICAN learned Rock Smash and Water Gun. I was ready to face Roark.

First Gym Battle: Leader Roark!

>> You can see the video here. << (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZHNY7eTJ60&list=PLKGdnCYoaOxIlFyc_bc8yRpOWaotSOHad&index=2)

My plan was to start with THORNANG, raise my Defense with Withdraw as high as possible, then use Absorb on Roark's first two Pokémon to heal back. When THORNANG reaches low HP, I would switch to MARK the Machop. PELICAN was Plan C without having a Geodude. First matchup: Lv.14 THORNANG vs Lv.12 GEODUDE. The plan worked smoothly, because I could raise THORNANG's Defense to +6 without getting under half HP. Then I spammed Absorb for victory. Second matchup: Lv.15 THORNANG vs Lv.12 ONIX. ONIX lowered THORNANG's Defense to +4 with a single Screech, and I got worried that my setup might crumble if I don't finish this quickly. I went for the quick kill with two Razor Leaves. Third matchup: Lv.15 THORNANG vs Lv.14 CRANIDOS. THORNANG still had +4 in Defense, so Cranidos could only deal 5 damage to me with his strongest attack. Two Razor Leaves sealed the deal again.

And with that, we got our first badge! :D

This is all I post for now. I plan to get to Valley Windworks today to get a chance at catching a *special pokémon* on Friday. ;)

When I got back to Jubilife City, I was surprised to see Looker again, the member of the International Police. He concluded that there is no suspicious activity in this city, so he moved on. Five seconds after he left, I bumped into suspicious activity.

(https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/e/e4/Platinum_Looker.png/164px-Platinum_Looker.png)   (https://i.imgur.com/TThP4fk.png)   (https://i.imgur.com/ckIoWSp.gif)

"Looker, you had one job!"

It looks like two members of a mysterious organization came to steal Professor Rowan's research data. They even threatened him that if he doesn't comply, they will attack Dawn. Dawn and the professor were surprisingly chill about this though, and in just a few seconds, Dawn and I were already having a double battle with the grunts. The battle didn't go smoothly, but I could get through without casualties. I cannot say the same for Dawn though, whose Piplup got annihilated.

(https://i.imgur.com/eZDS5yU.png) (https://i.imgur.com/5kMSIfF.png) (https://i.imgur.com/fJW897O.png)

After the first encounter with Team Galactic, Reynold was invited to the main building of Jubilife TV. In my unsaved game, I could win their lottery on first try (with the help of a new Shinx), but this time I wasn't as lucky.

I carried on towards Floarama Town, eager to catch a new Pokémon. Before that though, I was stopped by twin sisters for another double battle.

"We can one-shot this trainer, can't we, Liz?"

Despite their bold claims, they only had Pachirisus with Quick Attack as their strongest attack. It was worth battling them though, because ZERIA finally learned Bite! :) After I handled them, I waved around in the tall grass, hoping to catch a Starly. Instead of a Starly though, I got a Wurmple. I didn't know if this was a Silcoon or a Cascoon Wurmple, so I went with the most neutral W-name I could think of: WHOMP.

"The movepool of ZERIA is looking good though. She has now one attack of all types that are strong against Psychic.
Too bad ZERIA is also weak against Psychic... :-\"

My next stop was Floarama Town, but after some shopping, I immediately went ahead to Valley Windworks, where Team Galactic captured a powerplant and a scientist. I expected a tough battle there, so I added 1-2 levels to my weaker team members. SONIC finally learned Spark, an Electric-type move. :) After the short training, I broke into the powerplant to rescue the scientist.

Grunt: "You don't have an inkling of what Team Galactic is trying to achieve!"

Me: "You mean one of these?:"

(https://t00.deviantart.net/BniocB2DD1cDipuZHWtmTavUMvQ=/fit-in/300x900/filters:no_upscale():origin()/pre00/ec0f/th/pre/f/2015/264/5/f/smash_and_splat__inkling_tf_tg_ar_by_crazynaut-d93jetq.png)

Grunt: "Just you wait! Our Commander will smooch you!"

Me: "... What?"

Me: "Oh, wait. I read that wrong."

Inside the Windworks, I was stopped by the first commander of Team Galactic. She - even though I thought she was a guy for a very long time - offered me a deal. If I win, they go away, but if she wins, I go away. It goes without saying that I accepted her challenge.

Boss Battle: Galactic Commander Mars!

(https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/nintendo/images/0/0c/Team_Galactic_Symbol.png/revision/latest?cb=20111020170725&path-prefix=en) (https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/ce/Diamond_Pearl_Mars.png/120px-Diamond_Pearl_Mars.png) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/nintendo/images/0/0c/Team_Galactic_Symbol.png/revision/latest?cb=20111020170725&path-prefix=en)

>> You can see the video here. << (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sy2w9gWjWlU&list=PLKGdnCYoaOxIlFyc_bc8yRpOWaotSOHad&index=3)

I had no real plans for this fight, other than NOT starting with MARK. First matchup: Lv.13 PELICAN vs Lv.15 ZUBAT. Darn, I have the lower level. Doesn't matter, let's deal as much damage as we can before we switch! Awesome battle music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqXq3_2SI1w) goes in the background while PELICAN and Zubat spam their strongest attacks. In the end, PELICAN was getting very close to take out Zubat, but Zubat barely survived an attack with 1-2 health. Mars's Zubat was much faster than PELICAN, and the next hit could have killed us if it's a critical hit, so it was time for a safe switch-in. THORNANG, I choose you! THORNANG took two hits, then finished off the Zubat with a Tackle.

Her next Pokémon was Purugly, also known as the Devil's cat, so I brough out the big guns. Second matchup: Lv.16 MARK vs Lv. 17 PURUGLY. Purugly had the higher level, but I had the type advantage. Purugly's first attack was Fake Out, which dealt almost 1/3 of MARK's HP, plus it made MARK skip his turn. And that was only Fake Out! Who knows what stronger moves it has? I had to land at least one hit, so I went for a Karate Chop. Purugly was faster though, so MARK ate a Scratch to the face. Mark retaliated with Karate Chop, which took down around half of Purugly's HP. It was hard to tell if it was more or less than half. From the last Scratch, MARK's health ended a bit below half, so I thought it was safe to risk another Karate Chop, and maybe finish off Purugly with that. After another Scratch in the face, we lived with 7 HP! That was the moment of truth, landing the second Karate Chop. For a moment, I couldn't tell if it was strong enough to take out Purugly, but then Purugly confirmed the hit by fainting. With that, we defeated Commander Mars!

"Ironically, Purugly was worth 666 experience points."

After our battle, Mars and her lackeys admitted defeat, but they didn't mind, because they already got what they wanted. I was also surprised to see an unknown Commander in the background, who I haven't seen in Diamond before. After Team Galactic left and I rescued the captured scientist, her daughter came in to diss her dad with the following line:

"Damn! This young girl is savage."

But she also said something interesting.

Balloon Pokémon, huh? I might already have plans for that. ;) But this rescue mission exhausted Reynold, so I went out of the powerplant to get some fresh air. Outside, I was surprised again to see a familiar face.

"I would say exactly the same about you, Looker."

The increased appearances of Looker makes me think that I might have been wrong about him earlier, when I said he's probably irrelevant to the story. That's already different than what I know from Diamond, so I'm looking forward to see how he ties into the story. He said that he investigates Team Galactic, and next he's going to visit the Team Galactic Headquarters in Eterna City. That's my destination too, but only after I grind my way through Eterna Forest.~

Before I post my further adventures, I started uploading my videos. You can see them below or where the battles happened during the story.

Previously on Platinum Nuzlocke:

"Balloon Pokémon, huh? I might already have plans for that."
"I plan to get to Valley Windworks today to get a chance at catching a *special pokémon* on Friday."

Back to the episode:

It was Friday and I was finally at Valley Windworks. It was the perfect time to catch a Drifloon. :) For those who don't know, a wild Drifloon shows up at Valley Windworks every week, but only on Fridays and only if Team Galactic scattered from the building. I only knew this from playing Diamond, so it was lucky that it was the same for Platinum.

(https://i.imgur.com/y83L5Af.png) (https://i.imgur.com/cmn4khe.png)

Drifloon's movepool was Astonish, Minimize, Focus Energy and a fourth move he didn't show. Minimize was a threat, so I resorted to an unconventional solution: I brought out my Machop, who only knew Fighting-type attacks. Normally, Fighting-type moves don't affect Ghost-types, but MARK - the Machop - knew Foresight, which allowed him to hit Drifloon. Drifloon started raising his evasion with Minimize, but MARK's ability was No Guard, which made sure that attacks never miss. MARK slowly chipped away Drifloon's health with Karate Chop, which is not very effective against Drifloon, but that was perfect, because I didn't want to accidently kill him with a critical hit. Just when I got him to a low enough health, he crit MARK with an Astonish, so it was time to switch out. After that, I threw some balls at Floon, and eventually caught him. :)

Floon is a flying bag of cuteness - if you ignore the Pokédex entry -, so I named him FLIMFLAM. He will be especially useful against the upcoming Grass-type gym, just in case ZERIA cannot sweep alone.

In the surrounding area, I used a honey tree to lure in some rare Pokémon. The rare Pokémon in this case was a Lv.5 Aipom with Sand-Attack, Tail Whip and Scratch.

I couldn't catch him though, because I already caught Drifloon on this route.

My next route was up ahead, where a Shellos (Lv.9) decided to show up. My lead was ZERIA (Lv.15), so I went with Leech Life instead of Bite, because I didn't want to kill it. Leech Life barely did any damage to Shellos, while Shellos' first Water Pulse did a fair chunk to ZERIA while also confusing her. I wanted to attack with anything, but ZERIA hit herself in confusion twice in a row while Shellos was spamming Water Pulses. My safe switch-in against this thing was not something that could safely hit Shellos without risking to kill it, so with only 1 damage from Leech Life, I started chucking Pokéballs at him. Funnily enough, a Net Ball could catch him with almost full HP. :D Shellos got the name SHINRA, and so far, he easily outclasses PELICAN in every way.

After a few battles, THORNANG finally evolved! :)

(https://i.imgur.com/H1vvDt1.png) (https://i.imgur.com/Q7AXUpn.png)

I can't remember if I ever got to evolve Turtwig in my previous Nuzlocke attempts, because whenever I got him as a starter, he either died or I lost the game by the time he could evolve.

Another good thing that happened is that ZERIA finally learned Wing Attack, which will make her very useful against the upcoming Grass gym. And also this:

(https://i.imgur.com/ZnsqceD.png) (https://i.imgur.com/nVD6E6g.png)

Then it was time to enter Eterna Forest. Inside the forest, a timid girl approached us.

"Hello, my name's Cheryl. And you are...?"
"I'm sincerely glad to meet you."

"Whoa, Eterna Forest looks gorgeous!"
"Hi Cheryl, haven't seen you in a while."

Cheryl asked us if we can accompany her through the forest, because she is afraid she might get ambushed by Team Galactic. In return, she battles on our side and heals all our Pokémon after every battle. When she said all these though, I couldn't take a proper print screen, so I exited and re-entered the forest to repeat the dialogue. When I exited the forest, she remained there to wait for us, and when I came back, she said the following to REYNOLD:

(https://i.imgur.com/yKdcswe.png) (https://i.imgur.com/p4qSiB1.png)

"Aww, she's such a sweetheart."

The first part of her dialogue sounded kinda romantic, but it was definitely adorable. And when she said "Let's get through this forest together"? I think my heart melt a bit there. I didn't remember Cheryl to be such a sweetie, but she's definitely "ship" material for REYNOLD. To get started in the forest, I pulled out a Repel and dashed for the central forest area before it wore out. There, I got into a tricky situation.

"Hmmm, who to catch?"

Quoted from the pre-determined rules: "If the first encounter is a 2-vs-2 battle, you are free to decide which Pokémon you want to catch". So I could choose if I wanted a Buneary or a Gastly. I've never used Buneary before, and I'm pretty sure that its movepool is pretty shallow in this Gen, however, there will be at least two new areas where I have a high chance to catch a Gastly. Because of these factors, I decided to give Buneary a try. I caught Buneary and called him BREIDLE. (It's a male Buneary too, so that'll be weird when he'll look like a Lopunny (https://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/ultra-sun-ultra-moon/normal/lopunny.png).) Already one redeeming quality though: BREIDLE has a remarkably high Attack stat.

Time passed like a train, and we were eventually at the Eterna Forest exit. I didn't want to exit yet, because I knew that Cheryl only heals you until you reach the forest exit, but I got just one step too close to activate the exit dialogue.

"Dammit! Too early."

Well, at least she gave Reynold a parting gift, so that REYNOLD doesn't forget her. A Soothe Bell, to make any Pokémon friendlier.~ (*looks at ZERIA*)
Before leaving though, she turned back right before she would be out of sight.

ZERIA had a few close calls on the way to Eterna City, but luckily she didn't die. When I finally arrived, Zane ambushed me out of nowhere. I didn't remember a rival duel in this area, so I wasn't expecting one either, but that was not the case anyway. He just wanted to show me something. No, not just show me something, but FREAKING HOLD HANDS WHILE GOING THERE.

(https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e0/c3/35/e0c335d510f0a2c8f4c1df5efa0a020b.png)         (https://i.imgur.com/JZXhVsb.png) (https://img.rankedboost.com/wp-content/plugins/pokemon-lets-go/assets/characters/Rival.png)

"Hey Nintendo, can we not do BL please?"
"Oh, nevermind, they did it again in Pokémon Let's Go (https://youtu.be/YSWyPtxJ7m4?t=19004). :silly:"

But then we met Cyrus again, who was blocking our way to the thing Zane wanted to show me. As I said earlier, "Surely he won't be anyone important later". A short while later, Cyrus and Zane both left, to mind their own businesses, but then I was intercepted by freakin' Cynthia herself!

(https://i.imgur.com/YpUw9UT.png) (https://i.imgur.com/Du78L9q.png)

"Alright, is every important character gathering in this small town? Is Professor Rowan hiding in a bush somewhere too?"

Also, Cynthia saying "I'm a Trainer just like you"? She's telling jokes. xD

After all that, and after everyone left, REYNOLD could finally explore the city.~

In the local Pokémart, I met an explorer who told me about the great uses of Escape Rope. It's an item that players can use in caves to get up to the surface quickly. I assume it works by throwing the rope up, and climbing out in a nearby vent. However, he said that if he had one, he would have used it to get out of Eterna Forest. O_o Like, what? xD How? That makes no sense.

(https://i.imgur.com/0ZqQ4kz.png) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/es.pokemon/images/4/44/Chatot_en_Pok%C3%A9mon_Mundo_Misterioso_2.png/revision/20150514222954)

I also found the guy who offers a CHATOT if I trade it for a Buizel. :) I really like CHATOT, so if I catch a Buizel later, I will think about it.

I also found the Underground Man, (who was totally above ground, by the way >_>,) who gave REYNOLD the Explorer Kit. It will be useful for getting fossils after the Grass gym.

Oh, and remember how I asked if every important character was hiding in this city? There was one more: Dawn's father, who gave us the Exp Share.

After I explored the city, there was only the gym that I didn't visit yet. I had faith in ZERIA and FLIMFLAM to handle the gym alone, but I wanted to have backup. So far, I totally forgot that I'm not playing Diamond, and Diamond unrelentingly crushed me whenever I was not prepared. So I went back to Eterna Forest to train up my 'mons a bit.~

I brought WHOMP with me to get another Flying-type attacker. Bug Catchers in Eterna Forest told me how fast Bug Pokémons evolve, and I wouldn't dare to call them wrong. :)

(https://i.imgur.com/YQ5KCiA.png) (https://i.imgur.com/Z0zAUyN.png) (https://i.imgur.com/PzVHY7C.png)

"Huh, still no Cascoon though. I wonder under what conditions do Wurmples evolve into Cascoon."

WHOMP didn't have a great movepool, so I used other Pokémon to battle, while WHOMP was just holding the Exp Share in safety. Once she evolved into Beautifly though, I wanted to try her out against a wild Pokémon, just regular 1v1. Our first target was a Gastly. WHOMP only had Tackle, String Shot and Poison Sting, one of which was already useless against a Ghost-type. It was definitely worth a switch-out, but before that, I wanted to lower Gastly's speed at least once with String Shot.

That was a really bad idea.

It was a bad idea, because Gastly's first move was Mean Look, which prevented WHOMP from switching out. >_> In my new-found situation, my only option left was to attack with Poison Sting. It didn't do much, and it also had no chance to Poison the enemy, because a Poison-type cannot be poisoned. Luckily, Lick from Gastly didn't do much either, so I saw a chance to win this. But that was only until Gastly decided to use Curse, which made WHOMP a ticking timebomb that goes off in 4 turns. (Gastly's Curse is a move that costs 50% of the user's HP once, but takes away 25% of the opponent's HP every turn.) I tried to run away, but Mean Look prevented that too. Poison Sting didn't do enough damage to kill Gastly in the next 4 turns, so I had to hope he uses Curse again. On the very last turn, he did use Curse, but as it turns out, Curse fails if it was already used once. With that failure, we have our first defeat. :/

"Rest in peace, WHOMP. :( You were slowly growing on me, so your loss is a bummer."

In the next episode, we visit the Grass-type gym.

Title: Re: Gotta Catch Some Of Them
Post by: Submachine on January 19, 2019, 05:14:23 pm
Time for a gym battle!

We payed a visit to Gardenia, the second gym leader. My team was ready, so I didn't waste too much time.[1] ZERIA alone quickly disposed of the minor trainers inside the gym, then we could get to the point.

Second Gym Battle: Leader Gardenia!

(https://img.pokemondb.net/artwork/vector/large/turtwig.png) (https://i.imgur.com/mei96Kc.png) (http://pngimage.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/roserade-png-7.png)

This is not how I remembered this gym. My only memory was that Gardenia's boss monster is a Roserade, which I expected to use some Grass move, Sludge Bomb, and Stun Spore. I was mostly afraid of Stun Spore, so I spread a few anti-paralysis berries on my team. First matchup: Lv.20 ZERIA vs Lv.20 TURTWIG. I forgot about Turtwig, but I thought ZERIA should be able to handle it. Her Turtwig set up Reflect and Sunny Day after surviving my first Wing Attack though, so I kept switching back and forth between ZERIA and THORNANG until both wore off. Reflect was annoying, because it halved the damage of my Wing Attack, while Sunny Day was annoying, becuase it allowed a 75% heal from Synthesis and 1-turn Solar Beams. When Sunny Day wore off and there was only one turn of Reflect left, I finally dealt the finishing blow with ZERIA.

Second matchup: Lv.20 ZERIA vs I forgot. I think it was Cherubi, but I'm not sure. Watch the video for details. ^^" It was not very important, because ZERIA took care of it in 1 or 2 turns.

Then it was time for Lv.20 ZERIA vs Lv.22 ROSERADE. Roserade almost made ZERIA switch with its level advantage and high Sp.Attack stat, but ZERIA barely reached the kill before we needed to switch to another Pokémon. GG, Gardy!

(https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/8/85/066Machop.png/250px-066Machop.png) (http://static.pokemonpets.com/images/monsters-images-300-300/267-Beautifly.png)

"But wait! Why did you have only five Pokémon in your party?"

[1]Well, before entering Gardenia's gym for the first time, I thought I would get a few levels first. I wanted to give 1-2 levels to MARK and BREIDLE, just to be safe, but a wild Beautifly ended up killing MARK with Gust, which I didn't see coming. That was really devastating, so I decided to stop training in the wild and instantly challenge Gardenia, just to feel better a bit.

On the upcoming route, I had the pleasure to meet MYSTRO, the Meditite. So far, his moveset is not great, but his ability is Pure Power, (which raises the power of physical attacks,) so I can see him becoming useful later. But just one encounter later, I found another Machop! I would have rather re-caught a Machop than getting a Meditite. #_# Meditite is alright, but so far, MARK has put in a lot of work, and later I could have traded him for a Kadabra. With this though, I might have to give up all hopes to ever catch an Abra or Kadabra in this playthrough. It would be my first Diamond/Platinum Nuzlocke where I don't have the traded Abra.

As I marched forward to figure out where I need to go, I got a hint from Looker that I should infiltrate the local Team Galactic base. Looker keeps surprising me, he was now disguised as a Grunt. I fought my way through to the top floor, where I quickly realized that this is the point where I fight Galactic Commander Jupiter. She is brutally tough, so I turned back and started thinking of a game plan.

(https://i.imgur.com/68z05d0.png) (https://i.imgur.com/Wpi7ksM.png)

I started a long training montage, where my dudes levelled up and did some learning and evolving. ZERIA finally evolved into Golbat, which I'm pretty happy for. :) I trained up most of my 'mons to an average of Level 19, without ever thinking about what Jupiter's levels might be. I knew that her boss monster is Skuntank, which I assumed to have Poison Jab and Fire Blast. I also didn't have anyone who could do well in a 1v1 against a Skuntank. Skuntank had only one weakness: Ground. SHINRA was the only one capable of learning Ground-type moves, so I chose him as my secret weapon. I trained him up to level 19 and taught him Mud Bomb.

TIME FOR A RIDDLE!

After the training montage, I decided to take on Jupiter in the Eterna building of Team Galactic.~

Boss Battle: Galactic Commander Jupiter!

(https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/nintendo/images/0/0c/Team_Galactic_Symbol.png/revision/latest?cb=20111020170725&path-prefix=en) (https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/d/d0/Diamond_Pearl_Jupiter.png/150px-Diamond_Pearl_Jupiter.png) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/nintendo/images/0/0c/Team_Galactic_Symbol.png/revision/latest?cb=20111020170725&path-prefix=en)

Note to myself: She has only two Pokémon. First matchup: Lv.22 ZERIA vs Lv.21 ZUBAT. And her first pick is a Zubat that has a lower level than my evolved Zubat. I started thinking that I might have overlevelled my team, but better be cautious than not. We both used Wing Attack, except mine was stronger. Jupiter then came out to say a few words.

"How insolent. Take a BITE of this, child!"

So she said that, I decided to finish off her Zubat with Bite. Then we got to the real deal that we were waiting for: Lv.22 ZERIA vs Lv.23 SKUNTANK. I started hitting Skuntank with Wing Attack. However, Skuntank moved first, and got a good hit on ZERIA with Night Slash. Wing Attack took a bit more than fourth of Skuntank's HP, while ZERIA got dangerously close to KO range. I made a big mistake during team planning by letting ZERIA be my lead, because it allowed her weaker Pokémon to wear us down. If it wasn't a critical hit, ZERIA would have lived another Night Slash, but at that point in the battle, I didn't want to take any risks. To make things worse, ZERIA was my strongest, so I had to switch into a weaker Pokémon.

I should have stayed in for one more turn, because Skuntank's next set of strategies was to spam Smoke Screen for 2 turns, to which I responded with switching back and forth between THORNANG and SHINRA. THORNANG tanked a Night Slash and avoided a Poison Gas, so we landed a free Tackle. It barely did any damage. Things were not looking good, but THORNANG could tank one more Night Slash and we needed damage on Skuntank, so we stayed in for one more Tackle. After that, we couldn't take another hit, so it was time to switch out to our secret weapon!

"You're in charge, SHINRA!"

My plan was to survive a hit and get in a Mud Bomb. I could have lived without the following Night Slash, which was a critical hit though. >_> :-X It was an instant kill from full health. Well, shit! There goes my secret weapon! With ZERIA and THORNANG close to death, my options were limited. My best play to make here was to switch in SONIC for free. Skuntank was still faster than me and landed a SmokeScreen on SONIC. SONIC went for quick damage with Spark, which very very luckily paralyzed Skuntank, which was really good, because Skuntank was faster than my entire team.

But then we faced a medium setback.

The problem is that every setback can be huge against Skuntank, even if it's minor. Skuntank reached low enough HP to get some health back from its Sitrus Berry. A minor setback would have been if it had an Oran Berry (heals 15 less HP). A huge setback would have been if it had an anti-paralysis berry. It was rough to even deal considerable damage to Skuntank, so at the time, it looked logical to lower Skuntank's Defense with Leer instead of going for quick damage. Leer worked, but then SONIC got poisoned. It was an appropriate time for another Spark, but the SmokeScreen from earlier made us miss and waste our turn. Skuntank couldn't move either because of paralysis, so we only took the poison damage this turn. I could have went for another Spark, but the accuracy drop from SmokeScreen was obnoxious, so I decided to switch out to BREIDLE. On switch-in, BREIDLE barely lived a Night Slash with 6 HP, but at that point, I ran out of safe switch-ins. BREIDLE was the most expendable member of the team, and I didn't want him to go out without putting his high Attack stat to work, (plus there was always the chance that Skuntank gets paralyzed,) so I went for a Cut, which I recently taught him. BUT THEN CUT MISSED! Why doesn't Cut have maximum accuracy?! D: It's needless to say that BREIDLE couldn't survive that turn. :(

(https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/pokemonfakemon/images/2/29/Luxio_Dream.png/revision/latest?cb=20110606215433)      (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/sonic/images/a/a7/Sonic_Art_Assets_DVD_-_Sonic_The_Hedgehog_-_12.png/revision/latest?cb=20101018072959)

I had to make every turn count, so I switched in SONIC again, who no longer had reduced accuracy but was still poisoned. The Leer from earlier proved to be useful, because Spark did a reasonable amount of damage, while luckily Skuntank got paralyized. Poison chipped away again, then it was next turn. I had enough health to live another Night Slash and poison, so it made sense to spam Spark until someone dies. The next Spark, however, was strong enough to finally KO Jupiter's Skuntank. SONIC was the true MVP of this battle, and it looks like Electric-type Pokémon really carry me through the tough times in Nuzlockes. ^^"

After the battle with Jupiter, I counted our losses. I lost team members that I had high hopes for. I really wanted to train SHINRA to be a bulky Gastrodon with Recover and Toxic, and I wanted to see BREIDLE in his fully glory, putting his high Attack stat to work in the future. (SHINRA also knew Hidden Power Psychic, which I really wanted to add to the End of Day party stats once.) I also lost MARK, who could have been either a fantastic wallbreaker or a good trade-in for a super powerful Kadabra. But all that is gone now. :(

For MARK:

MARK, the Machop: Lv.6-Lv.18, from Route 207. Died by a wild Lv.15 Beautifly. Super effective Gust was unexpected, because I didn't think it would learn Gust this early. Your name is what I always give to male Machops.

For SHINRA:

SHINRA, the Shellos: Lv.9-Lv.19, from Route 205. Died by Galactic Commander Jupiter's Lv.23 Skuntank. On switch-in, Night Slash was a critical hit. SHINRA was 4 levels lower, so it was a 1-hit KO.

For BREIDLE:

BREIDLE, the Buneary: Lv.11-Lv.18, from Eterna Forest. Died by Galactic Commander Jupiter's Lv.23 Skuntank. There were no safe switch-ins, so BREIDLE had to hope for Skuntank being paralyzed. BREIDLE missed, then Skuntank dealt the finishing blow.

"Bye-Bye, MARK, SHINRA and BREIDLE! :("

But at least, I still had my strongest lineup of Pokémon, so not everything was lost. Before the day could end though, Cynthia intercepted me for a small chat. Again, out of nowhere. Her proposal was to give REYNOLD a mysterious egg.

"Wait, I don't remember that this is supposed to happen here. Are you giving me a Garchomp egg? :D"

"Oh... Then it's probably just a Happiny. I get it."

After she gave me an egg, I wrapped up a few things here and there, and now I have a bicycle. :) In the next episode, we go rolling down the cycling road!

Here I wanted to put the End of Day party stats, but I cannot open my save file. :( How should I proceed now?

Attention!

Here I wanted to put the End of Day party stats, but I cannot open my save file. :( How should I proceed now?
I discovered that in my current emulator, saving the game does not save the game. The game is only saved if I save the game AND close the emulator manually. Last time, I restarted my computer after saving the game without closing the emulator, that's why I lost progress again. For similar situations, I have the following rule:

Quote
If the game accidently crashes, you don't have to reproduce your previous run since your last save. Play by the normal rules again.
But this was the only time when I lost progress after posting the episode here, so I'm asking the audience. Tell me how to proceed by voting in the poll, please.~

The poll has ended, so I went on to get back the same team I had at the end of the last episode. Now I finally caught up with myself, though there are a few differences.

Gardenia put up a decent fight, almost killing ZERIA, but we all came out alive in the end. From now on, I won't make the mistake of leading with my strongest in gym battles.

Outside Eterna City, I tried to recatch the first Meditite I saw, but this ended up in a different gendered MYSTRO, and also a different type of Hidden Power too.

RIDDLE TIME!

Hidden Power on MYSTRO was normally effective on Zubat and Meditite, but it was super effective against Budew.
Question: What type was Hidden Power this time?

Before facing Jupiter again, I decided to train all my team up to 20 or above, just to see how the fight would have went if I adequately prepared for it. I might have gone overboard with the training, because ZERIA decided to evolve into Crobat waaaay too early. This means, I cannot teach her Giga Drain, which is a bummer. :-\

Since last time, enough time passed that I could meet another Drifloon at Valley Windworks. I used this one to gain big EXP points.

I also had a chance to see how BREIDLE would have destroyed everyone in his path if he lived for higher levels. He two-shot everything in his way with Frustration. :o (Frustration would have gotten weaker later on, but at that point, I could have taught BREIDLE better moves to change it with.)

After my team was set, I tackled Jupiter again with a higher level team and a better strategy than last time.

And that's how I ended without casualties on the rematch. :) On the last turn, any attack would have killed SHINRA. Even if Skuntank doesn't finish him, poison would have killed SHINRA anyway at the end of the turn. It's also worth mentioning that Mud Bomb has 85% accuracy, but all four of them landed.

Many of that does not matter, because in the original run, SHINRA and BREIDLE both died, so I had to treat them as dead after I had defeated Jupiter.

In the next episode, REYNOLD goes biking on Cycle Road. :)

Down the Cycling Road we go!

Cycling Road was full of birds and Pikachus, nothing that SONIC couldn't have handled alone. Under the Cycling Road, however, was Route 206. It's a rich spot for rare Pokémon, so I was eager to go there, armed to teeth with Pokéballs. I expected to get a Skorupi, but what I found might be better.

Catching it was not an easy task though, because it had a great Attack stat, while I didn't have much to resist its moves. Many of my guys were 3-hit KOs for Ponyta, so I didn't get too many chances to switch. I managed to chip down a bit less than 1/4 of its HP, then started throwing balls. It was escaping regular balls, and I got really tight on team HP, but the first Nest Ball managed to catch it. With PHOENIX on the team (PHOENIX is the name I gave to Ponyta), I finally have a Fire-type in my team. :) That's really good, because in Diamond, the only Fire-types were Ponyta and Numel, and they can only be caught in, like, 3 locations. With PHOENIX, I might not need Hidden Power Fire on MYSTRO after all.

Side note: I missed the chance again to catch a Machop here. I know Ponyta is good, but a traded Kadabra might have been better. I also saw Skorupis and Gligars in the area, but I'm not sure how good they are in this Gen, so I don't know how much I missed.

(https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/pokemonfakemon/images/0/08/Ponyta_Dream.png/revision/latest?cb=20110910235429) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/randompokemon/images/2/26/Egg.png/revision/latest?cb=20151120214456) (https://i.imgur.com/C858zIG.png)

While I was examining the rich ecosystem of Route 206, a surprise guy popped out of the egg I was carrying: a Togepi. :o I never had a Togepi before, but in competitive games, its final evolution flinches everything to death with Serene Grace, so I got eager to give it a try. Buuut it has Hustle instead of Serene Grace, so nevermind about all that. ^^" At the end of Route 206 awaited me Wayward Cave. It was pitch black inside, so I didn't plan to explore it just yet, but I spent enough time inside that I could find and catch a Bronzor.

Welcome to the team PHOENIX, TORVIUS and BRICK ROLL! :)

After Wayward Cave, it was time to enter Mount Coronet. Wild Pokémon could now exceed level 18, which is the level where Geodudes learn Selfdestruct. To get through without casualties, I brought out PELICAN the Psyduck. PELICAN not only had a 4-times effective Water Gun against Geodudes, but his ability was also Damp, which prevents selfdestructing moves. He was 2 levels below average though, so I sent him out first against a few trainers. The second dude had a Buizel, who I decided to weaken a bit with PELICAN before sending in someone else to battle. We traded Scratches and Quick Attacks for a while, but when PELICAN's HP was low enough for it to matter, Buizel revealed Pursuit. I couldn't risk switching out, so I attempted to use Disable on Pursuit. However, Quick Attack was disabled instead. I would have died to the next hit anyway, so I had to switch and pray for a third move that is not Pursuit. I wasn't so lucky though, so PELICAN went down. :(

Outsmarted by the AI.

After a trip back to the Pokécenter, I switched PELICAN to a much less impressive BABIDYBOO, who I managed to upgrade to a Bibarel.

(https://i.imgur.com/J3lyM8w.png) (https://i.imgur.com/u0DzoOH.png)

On my trip through Mount Coronet, I bumped into three relevant figures.

1. Dawn

She was somewhere between fantastic and hopeless.

She was nice though, and gave us an item finder and a VS Seeker. :)

2. Cyrus

He was slowly showing his true intentions. An ultimate goal.

But naaaah! He's probably not relevant to the plot at all. :sillyspin:

3. This Guy

Hey, it's MYSTRO's lost brother, MYSTERY. :D ZERIA confused him with Confuse Ray and he hit himself in confusion three times in a row, but luckily he snapped out of confusion on around 1 HP. Then I put him to sleep with BRICK ROLL's Hypnosis and managed to catch it with a regular ball. I put him in the box for now, but later I might check what type of Hidden Power he learns.

With that done, I was finally outside Mount Coronet. There, I managed to catch a Ralts (who I named ROVIUS), which is something I never used before. I know it can evolve into Gardevoir or Gallade, but I don't know the evolution conditions for them. For now, I don't even know which one I want, so I put ROVIUS in the box too.

But the box is not left untouched for long, because in Hearthome City, a girl decided to give me an Eevee too, which I gladly accepted. For now, I have plenty of options to rebuild my team.

(https://i.imgur.com/LMyZHTv.png) (https://i.imgur.com/rEj18ky.png)

In the next episode, I will completely skip contests and head towards the Veilstone City gym.~

An unexpected change of plans!

So here's what I knew at the beginning of this episode. In Pokemon Diamond, the local gym leader is out of town somewhere, so it has to be skipped until you come back 2 gyms later. That's what I expected here too, but in the Contest Hall, I glanced at a familiar purple dressed figure in the corner. At first I thought I saw a ghost, because I could have sworn she was not supposed to be here. After I talked to her, she told me we would have to battle once in her gym, to which I said "Fine, you probably won't have time to battle me with all your contest shenanigans until I come back from the 4th gym". But after this, the exits of Hearthome City were still blocked and suddenly the gym's doors were open. I went in for a quick scouting mission, and then it was confirmed.

"My next opponent is you, Fantina!"

During my scouting mission, I set out the following goal: Level 26 for all Pokémon in my team. The team I chose for the mission was the following:

(https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/959/365/b67.png) (https://static.pokemonpets.com/images/monsters-images-300-300/169-Crobat.png) (http://static.pokemonpets.com/images/monsters-images-300-300/2388-Shiny-Grotle.png)

(https://img.pokemondb.net/artwork/vector/large/bibarel.png) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/es.pokemon/images/d/df/Luxio_%28dream_world%29.png/revision/latest?cb=20101024151755) (https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/c1/436Bronzor.png/250px-436Bronzor.png)

This was the best I could do without making too early decisions. (By early decisions, I mean choosing Togepi as my Egg Pokémon and choosing an Eeveelution now that I might not want later.) MYSTRO and FLIMFLAM were weak to Ghost-type attacks, so I wanted to leave them out of this. ZERIA, THORNANG and SONIC all knew Bite, which was super effective against Ghosts. BABIDYBOO was part Normal-type, so she straight-up ignored Ghost-type moves, and then finally BRICK ROLL was just an all-around reliable wall that can put things to sleep.

(http://static.pokemonpets.com/images/monsters-images-800-800/74-Geodude.png) (https://preview.redd.it/h6st5s5ljo221.png?width=300&auto=webp&s=8396fea5fc1c6f4c283d575c39a917037739d5ed)

I started the grind on Route 208, but eventually I realized that using the VS Seeker item, I can get higher EXP points much faster. I was slowly reaching Level 26 on my team members, one by one, and eventually I found myself on the West side of Mount Coronet, rematching trainers one after another. I also met the trainer with the deadly Buizel who killed PELICAN. I was grinding through Chimchars, Pachirisus, Geodudes, Roselias and Mime Jrs, until eventually I misclicked and a Geodude exploded in BABIDYBOO's face. Wait, NOOOOOO! >_> I rematched the same Hiker probably three times, but he never revealed Selfdestruct until that point. Sadly the damage was too much for BABIDYBOO, so I lost my best Ghost immunity and my only remaining Water user. Rest in peace, BABI. :[

The misclick I mentioned was me clicking Headbutt instead of Water Gun against the Geodude. Water Gun would have killed, so this casualty could have been avoided. I switched BABIDYBOO to FLIMFLAM, then went back to continue my training. I learned from my mistake, and against the Geodudes, I only brought BRICK ROLL to resist everything they can do to me. I could have also brought in FLIMFLAM to be immune to Selfdestructs, but they knew Rock Throw, which was good against Flying. I highly valued BRICK ROLL on my team, because he could just switch into battle in tough situations, resist two attacks, then put the opponent to sleep. Against Geodudes, he could ignore Ground-type moves by Levitate, and resist their Normal and Rock type moves with its Steel typing. I tested BRICK ROLL at level 21 against a Geodude's Selfdestruct, and he could survive it with only half of its HP going down. At level 22, he could do the same, but with his HP remaining a bit above half.

I was continuing the training against the same group of trainers, until I became the victim of sheer chance. It was at that time, when a 3 level lower Geodude decided to use Selfdestruct against BRICK ROLL, who was at full HP. It would have been fine normally, but this one specific attack decided to be a critical hit. Of all things! And it was sadly enough to break through the wall that is known as BRICK ROLL. And from full health too. Dammit! :[[

"I have no other chance. It's time to bring out Meditite."

MYSTRO the Meditite was weak against Ghosts though, so she was only on my team as a last resort. With the combination of MYSTRO and FLIMFLAM on my team, I could finally outsmart the Geodudes and reach level 26 with everyone. (MYSTRO could use Rock Smash to 2-hit KO the Dudes, or FLIMFLAM could switch in when I expected a Selfdestruct.)

Speaking of Meditites, I had another one in the box, called MYSTERY. The mystery with him was to figure out what type of Hidden Power he learns. Let's see if you can find it out from only the following information:
  • Hidden Power was normally effective against Ponyta.
  • Hidden Power was normally effective against Machop.
  • Hidden Power did not affect Gligar.
This time, I will not reveal the answer.

After I reached my goal, it was time to return to Fantina.

Third Gym Battle: Leader Fantina!

Only now do I realize that the thumbnail of the uploaded video might be a spoiler. Without further ado, let's dwell into the battle with Fantina.

First matchup: Lv.27 THORNANG vs Lv.24 DUSKULL. I didn't know what she would start with, but my gameplan was to start with my weakest Anti-Ghoster, THORNANG. I started spamming Bites until it was time to switch. The plan worked perfectly against Duskull, because THORNANG defeated her without taking a hit.

When she announced to send in Mismagius, I decided to stick to my plan and keep biting with THORNANG. Second matchup: Lv.27 THORNANG vs Lv.26 MISMAGIUS. Mismagius was much faster than us, so she immediately confused THORNANG with Confuse Ray, who then proceeded to hit himself in confusion. Well, I thought, that will be annoying, but as long as I can get in another hit, I should be fine. So I attempted another Bite, but THORNANG once again hit himself in confusion, while Mismagius landed a heavy hit with Shadow Ball. At this point, if I wanted to avoid any casualties, I had to switch.

It was time to switch to my second best Bite user, SONIC, the Luxio. I hoped SONIC would take less than half HP damage from Shadow Ball, because then I could have damaged Mismagius once more before being forced to switch. However, Shadow Ball took down around three quarters HP.

"This is looking awful for us."

I was down to only one Anti-Ghoster, which was my Crobat, ZERIA. ZERIA was switched in to take the incoming Shadow Ball, but then it was worse than what I expected.

"The foe's Mismagius used Psybeam!"

SHIT, no! :o That was a power prediction by the AI, which I did not expect. Psybeam was super effective against ZERIA, so it did even more damage than Shadow Ball to my other 'mons. But then why did it only deal third of my HP? I need to calculate this...

NameTypeCategoryBase PowerEffective Damage
Shadow Ball(https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/7/73/GhostIC_Big.png) STABSpecial80120
Psybeam(https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/6/60/PsychicIC_Big.png) 2xSpecial65130

So it was around the same power then, but it's still crazy how my Crobat has more Sp.Def than my Luxio. ^^" It was the exact turn of events that I needed though. ZERIA took this opportunity to Bite the opponent.

But it was not looking as easy as I thought it would go originally. Unfortunately, the opponent was in berry range after our first attack, and Sitrus Berry healed Mismagius back to the green zone. At this point, I could only hope that the second Bite would finish her off, so I went for it. This was our final chance, because ZERIA cannot take another Psybeam at this HP. ZERIA used Bite, and then....  success! Mismagius was down! Only one more to go.~

It was all down to the last Pokemon of Fantina. Luckily for me though, it was not a Gengar, just a regular Haunter. Whew! I didn't want to keep ZERIA in battle, so I switched out to my only healthy member of my team who could take a hit. Lv.26 PHOENIX vs Lv.24 HAUNTER. It was clear to me that the decisive battle between our strongest was already played. Now it was time for the clash of the leftovers.~ None of us had super effective hits against each other, but we didn't resist each other either. Fantina still had all her potions, but PHOENIX had the level advantage. PHOENIX hit the Haunter with his best move, Flame Wheel, which was enough for a 2-hit KO. On the other hand, Haunter's Shadow Claw was a 3/4-hit KO. This looked promising, because even if Fantina uses Full Restores, PHOENIX should be able to maintain the advantage if we kept using Flame Wheel, which we did. Luckily for us, Fantina forgot to use any potions, so we took the victory out on a date and succeeded. Well done, team! ZERIA was definitely the MVP.

We cut it really close on this one, but we probably deserved it after the unfair loss of BRICK ROLL. This was enough excitement for me that day, so this is where I end the episode.

For BABIDYBOO:

BABIDYBOO, the Bibarel: Lv.5-Lv.22, from Route 203. Died by a Hiker's Lv.19 Geodude. I accidently clicked Headbutt instead of Water Gun, which let the Geodude Selfdestruct. That's one casualty I could have easily avoided. :(

For BRICK ROLL:

BRICK ROLL, the Bronzor: Lv.20-Lv.23, from Wayward Cave. Died by a Hiker's Lv.20 Geodude. Selfdestruct was critical hit, which was enough to take down BRICK ROLL from full HP, even with a resisted hit. Your name was inspired by the early 2000s phenomenon, the Rick Rolling.

PELICAN was not here to protect us from these Geodudes. :(

"Bye-Bye, BABIDYBOO and BRICK ROLL!"

Late notes: Wait, why didn't FANTINA have a Drifblim? This battle was so early, they even downgraded her Gengar to a Haunter. I even prepared SONIC to deal with the Minimize Drifblim before it could get out of control.

Encounter after encounter

We had just finished the gym battle against Fantina, but our rival, Zane, wanted another battle right after. I didn't expect him here, but I had healed up my team beforehand, so he couldn't catch me off-guard. If he catched anyone off-guard right after the battle with Fantina - and without healing -, they would have had a bad time.

To make it short, here is how the team changed on my way:

So what happened to Ponyta? I was in a tough spot, because I entered a battle against an opposing Ponyta with THORNANG. THORNANG was weak to Fire, so I needed to switch him out. My only Fire resistance was my own Ponyta, so I switched PHOENIX in. The opposing trainer's Ponyta was 2 levels lower, but it was faster than PHOENIX. Right on switch-in, PHOENIX got trapped with Fire Spin, so neither could I switch him out, nor could I run away, nor catch the opposing threat. Because of the Speed disadvantage and the Fire Spin, PHOENIX was doomed from the start. But to make things the absolute worst, the opposing Ponyta flinched PHOENIX on turn 2 and landed a critical hit on turn 3. We got beaten to death without a fighting chance, without a single scratch at the opponent. At that point, I was more disappointed than sad, but I still take the loss seriously. To learn something from the incident, I decided to always keep a Water-type on my team.

My trip to Veilstone City took two days, during which I had the opportunity twice to show a Pokemon to the Newsletter Writers of Solaceon Town. The way it works is they tell you a random Pokemon, and you have one day to show it to them. Their first request was a Bronzor, to just add salt to the recent wounds. :'( But their second request was a Bibarel, which I could show to them for a Heart Scale and 3 Ultra Balls.

During the rest of my trip to Veilstone, I got my guard up, so I had a smooth sailing. When I finally arrived, I saw both the Veilstone City gym and the Team Galactic Headquarters. I will visit them in this order eventually.~

Nice run so far, good luck :)
Thanks! :) I waited with this reply until I could put up the next episode, which has come now.

Gym Leader Maylene's doors were wide open, but before I entered, I had a bunch of new areas to explore. And with new areas came new teammates. :)

1. PORYGON (PERESVIR)

This might be a callback to the first Pokemon game, where a guy gives you a Porygon in the same city where the evil team's HQ is. Porygon's not gonna be of any use in the upcoming battle against Maylene, but I'm happy that PERESVIR is part of my team now. :)

2. RHYHORN (RATHALOS)

My reaction to Rhyhorn is 'eh', especially if we consider that I had a pretty high chance to catch a Houndour instead. His further disadvantages are that he'll never evolve into a Rhyperior, he's not gonna be of any help against Maylene, and has the same typing as Geodude. However, I've never used the Rhyhorn line before, so I'm eager to give this guy a chance later.

Look at those spikes, though! I'm calling this steely guy RATHALOS, based on a similarly spiky fellow.

3. OH HEY, A GEODUDE!

UH, HAHA, NEVERMIND...

I couldn't max out on Geodudes yet (sadly), but luckily I could tank the Selfdestruct without sacrificing anyone. Getting some Quick Balls or a Damp Psyduck any time soon would be nice.~
(Note: Damp prevents selfdestructing moves.)

4. GIRAFARIG (GINGSH)

Further down the road, I finally met a capable Psychic-type. It was the perfect timing too, because she's definitely joining the fight against Maylene.

I love when she's using Psybeam though. xD Whenever she uses Psybeam, I imagine her saying GIIIINGSH (her name) like how these guys say 'Fish' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JWHmDcn774&feature=youtu.be&t=48). A hilarious party member.

5. EVOLUTIONS, BABY!

It's also worth mentioning that during our training for Maylene, many of our folks evolved. :D

(https://i.imgur.com/l20Cy82.png) (https://i.imgur.com/w55t4Wd.png)

ZIMMY is on the same team as ZERIA, only because I want to teach ZIMMY Giga Drain before she evolves into a Crobat.

(https://i.imgur.com/tQEWtyu.png) (https://i.imgur.com/2TlhsDf.png)

Look at all that bulk that FLIMFLAM just got! When I have the chance, I'll try out a Double Team, Stockpile, Swallow, Ominous Wind set, just to see how effective it is.

(https://i.imgur.com/0VS0Z7F.png) (https://i.imgur.com/5AgAfv5.png)

Kirlia was the daily searched Pokemon in Solaceon Town, so I took a detour to evolve her to get more Pokeballs and another Heart Scale.

(https://i.imgur.com/CfO4wLc.png) (https://i.imgur.com/zTOLN4h.png)

And this one's just perfect. :) I had an empty slot for the battle against Maylene, so I planned to take THORNANG with me for bulk alone, but with his perfectly timed evolution, he can now be a threat to Maylene with Earthquake.

And with that, our team was ready to face Maylene. Did I have a plan? Kinda... My plan was just to start with MYSTRO and send out the best options afterwards. Platinum is new to me, so I didn't even try to predict what Maylene might bring. I slowly navigated myself through her new gym layout, then we were ready to R-R-R-RUMBLE!

Fourth Gym Battle: Leader Maylene!

"Ref, give us the play-by-play!"

So here's what happened, in order. First matchup: Lv.33 MYSTRO vs Lv.28 MEDITITE. Essentially, a battle between two Meditites, but mine was at a higher level. Levels don't mean much though, when we both have Pure Power (ability) and high Attack stats.

It was time to bring out our pure Psychic user. Second matchup: Lv.32 GINGSH vs Lv.29 MACHOKE.
Oh, shi-! The big guns. It was the best possible time to bring out THORNANG. I wasn't worried, because even if THORNANG couldn't handle the Lucario, I knew I could safely switch out to ZERIA at any point without suffering any serious damage. Last matchup: Lv.32 THORNANG vs Lv.32 LUCARIO. We finally closed the level gap too.

I made a video too, but with so little happening, I didn't feel it necessary to upload it.

Gotta say, it feels good to finally close an episode without making a tribute to the fallen. ^^ I had enough of losing precious teammates. In the next episode, REYNOLD and Co will pilfer the Team Galactic HQ in Veilstone City, looking for the TM Fly.

In the next episode, REYNOLD and Co will pilfer the Team Galactic HQ in Veilstone City, looking for the TM Fly.
Syke! That's the wrong episode.

It turns out that REYNOLD's next destination was Pastoria City, where the Water-type gym is located. What made me think that we'll infiltrate the Galactic HQ is that Dawn asked us to help her get back her stolen Pokédex from Team Galactic.

It turns out she likes to use Clefairy more than her starter, but that's okay. Maybe she'll heal me in battle like Cheryl did in Eterna Forest.

But she was not as bright as I thought, because all she used was Metronome. "Metronome randomly selects a move and fully executes the attack." I was not comfortable with this gamble, because what if she accidently uses Selfdestruct or Explosion? After my GINGSH was chipped away by the opposing Zubats, I didn't feel comfortable staying in, so I switched to someone with full health.

Well, what do you know! Guess what she did.

Of course she used Selfdestruct. This time, I dodged a bullet just by listening to my gut, but holy hell! That was some unholy luck right there. GINGSH would have definitely dropped if I don't switch her out, and luckily Bibarel could barely survive the hit.

On my way forward, I met youtuber ProJared who was just hanging out on the beach. I guess he was much younger here. :)

(https://i.imgur.com/NfFAA6P.png) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/projareds-nuzlocke-series/images/8/8c/ProJared.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150614210621)

Then I finally arrived at Pastoria City, where I had many things to do. First of all, I could finally buy some Quick Balls. Secondly, I found the move relearner guy (Move Tutor). There was also the Great Marsh. And that's if you don't count the Water Gym and the girl who gives free berries every day.

(https://i.imgur.com/7vOVXcY.png) (https://i.imgur.com/Pu47yhZ.png) (https://i.imgur.com/Eoz6sQv.png)

I already had a few Heart Scales (the currency that the Move Tutor uses), so I went on to teach a few strong moves to my elite. ZERIA learned Cross Poison, then I changed her Razor Fang to a Poison Barb to increase the damage of her Poison-type moves. Then I was wondering if I should teach Wood Hammer to THORNANG instead of Razor Leaf. The 120 base power was tempting, but I didn't really know if I wanted a move with recoil. Another option I had was teaching him Bullet Seed, which can either deal 25, 50, 75, 100 or 125 damage. Bullet Seed was also stronger than Razor Leaf, but it seemed unreliable to get high damage consistently. So I went with Wood Hammer eventually. Keep that in mind.

After I reached Pastoria City, my team also went through some changes.

1. A NEW CROBAT? (ZIMMY)

ZIMMY reached the required happyness to evolve into a Crobat, but she still haven't learned Giga Drain yet, so I interrupted the evolution. I will look really stupid after all this if it turns out that Golbats cannot even learn Giga Drain. ?_?

2. SHELLOS!

Another Shellos appeared, but this one is inferior to SHINRA. His ability is Sticky Hold instead of Storm Drain. :( Either way, I called him Shellock Holmes, so he will now help me with my investigations. ;)

3. Q?

On my way forward, I met another inferior beast compared to SHINRA. This one was a Quagsire whose ability was Damp instead of Water Absorb. The funny story with Quagsire is when I tried to give him a nickname, I accidently pressed the Confirm button instead of the Next Page button (which are next to each other), so my Quagsire's name is simply Q. ^^"

4. GORDY is evolving!

(https://i.imgur.com/k5tTZdf.png) (https://i.imgur.com/J7Oxu3n.png)

And finally we got a Graveler with Earthquake. :) But sadly that's the only evolution he will get. Learning from my experience in Emerald, I won't be using him during the late game, so I must use his full potential as early as possible. Keep that in mind.

Before I could enter the next gym, I was caught off-guard by my rival, Zane. Because I was caught off-guard, I only remembered to start recording mid battle. As you can see from the following video, it was not a clean victory, but at least we suffered no casualties.

Against Crasher Wake, the leader of the Water-type gym, I had a clear plan in mind. Lead with GINGSH to 1v1 Wake's weakest member, switch to BEREVIC when he switches in his Gyarados, use Yawn, then either switch out to SONIC after he fell asleep or switch out to GORDY if he started using Thrash. And yes, I'm planning to use my Graveler against Wake, but strictly against his Gyarados if he starts using Thrash. My plan against his Quagsire was to bring in THORNANG, and the rest of my team should be able to handle the rest of his team. Okay, so let's see how this plan went.

Fifth Gym Battle: Leader Crasher Wake!

First matchup: Lv.34 GINGSH vs Lv.33 GYARADOS.

"And right out of the gate, my plan is ruined!"

Him leading with Gyarados is one of the worst things that could happen against my team plan. Now my Bibarel will have to take a hit before he can use Yawn, which is a significant setback. But I had to cook with the ingredients I had, so I decided to try my luck with GINGSH. A boosted Psybeam did a bit less than third of his HP, but he of course had Bite against us. >__> On the fly, I switched in SONIC, hoping to tank the next hit, but Waterfill did around 50%, so I was forced to switch out again.

"This is already looking awful."

I wanted to take the lowest possible damage, so I brought in my tankiest team member, ZERIA. (Never thought I'd ever say this, haha.) After one hit, Wake wasted his Hyper Potion, which was at least good. ZERIA managed to get rid of Gyarados, but for what cost? It required my strongest to take down his weakest, and I was not happy. At least SONIC learned Thunder Fang over Spark, so that's something.

When Wake announced his next Pokémon, ZERIA was already in the orange zone, so I had to switch. Second matchup: Lv.35 BEREVIC vs Lv.37 Floatzel. Since Wake's Gyarados was already down, I had the opportunity to use Bibarel's Yawn strategy on someone else. We lived two Crunches, but our Defense dropped. Hyper Fang did around 45% to Floatzel, so instead of switching out, I decided to gamble on Floatzel being asleep for long enough.

The second Hyper Fang barely killed him, but Sitrus Berry made him out of KO range again. 1 turn of sleep gone.

The third Hyper Fang barely killed him, I just needed one more hit. 2 turns of sleep gone.

The fourth Hyper Fang would have killed, but the scummy lord of waters decided to bring out a second Hyper Potion, which made Floatzel a 3-hit KO again. 3 turns of sleep gone... :-X

The maximum turns of sleep is 4, but even that doesn't help me win 1v1 against Floatzel. At best, this was my last turn of sleep and I can get in one more Hyper Fang hit, but then I would have to sacrifice something. I went for the risky hit though, and wanted to get in that last chunk of Hyper Fang.

But wait, what's this? Floatzel woke up!

And with BEREVIC's lack of Speed and lowered Defense, the next Crunch was an easy KO for Floatzel. DAMMIT!!! :'( At this point, my plan was non-existent and I made my moves on the fly. Floatzel still had more than 50% HP, so I needed a big gun. Probably the biggest gun I had. Lv.34 THORNANG vs Lv.37 Floatzel. I was confident that the newly learned Wood Hammer would KO Floatzel, while THORNANG had enough bulk to live any physical Water or Dark type move Floatzel had.

"Wood Hammer it is, then."

Quick Claw didn't activate this time, so I was just waiting for what move Floatzel starts off with. But it was FREAKING ICE FANG of all things! The following seconds felt like minutes to me. The animation of Ice Fang stopped after 2 seconds, then THORNANG's HP was just going down, and down, and down... THORNANG, please, tank the hit! :'( His health was getting lower and lower... We went from green, to orange, to red, and... We lived on 17 HP! :o I was almost cheering, but then... Oh right, remember when I told you to keep in mind that I taught THORNANG Wood Hammer over Bullet Seed?

The good news are that we defeated the Floatzel, but the bad news are that nobody gained EXP from it, because everyone he battled died. You may ask how? Well, THORNANG took recoil damage from Wood Hammer, proportionate to the damage we dealt to Floatzel. And since Floatzel still had a bunch of HP left and we only had 17, we went down in an instant. With that, our starter was officially dead. :(

According to the calculator, a 3-hit Bullet Seed would have dealt 79.3 - 94.2% damage to Floatzel, which would have been enough in theory to finish him off. Even if Bullet Seed only hit twice, that would have dealth 52.8 - 62.8% damage, which might have been enough too. Or if that wouldn't have been enough, I could have switched in ZERIA next to deal the faster finishing blow, and then at least someone would have gotten EXP from defeating Floatzel. (Even Razor Leaf would have dealt 54.5 - 66.1%.)

But the battle didn't end there.

Crasher Wake still had a Quagsire left, and my only Grass-type user was gone. At this point, I had to make-do with what I had left.

"Remember what I told you to keep in mind about GORDY?"

I didn't foresee GORDY doing much for me on the long run, and I couldn't even use him against Wake's Gyarados as I planned, so I decided to turn him into a sacrificial bomb. Third matchup: Lv.34 GORDY vs Lv.34 QUAGSIRE. Our levels were equal, so I had hope. My plan was to outspeed Quagsire and hit him with an Earthquake before he uses a Water or Ground type move and kills us. But I was not as fortunate, because GORDY was slow as rocks, and Quagsire was clever enough to use a Special Water-type move to KO us. Darn!

All things I had left on the team were limping on 50% or lower HP, some of them even weak to one of Quagsire's attacks. GINGSH had a bit more than 33% though and he was also specially defensive, so I gave her a try. Lv.34 GINGSH vs Lv.34 QUAGSIRE. Our boosted Psybeam, however, was not strong enough to 2-hit KO Quagsire, so it was time to switch or sacrifice again. :( GINGSH lived the next attack on 9 HP, so it was clear she could not take any more hits. However, Quagsire's last used move was a Ground-type move, so I had a last-ditch effort to play around him.

Lv.39 ZERIA vs Lv.34 QUAGSIRE. If Quag used Mud Shot again, ZERIA would not take damage from it, and then we would have enough turns to KO without dying.

But surely it cannot be that easy, right?!

Freaking ROCK TOMB! I don't know how, but the AI outplayed me again, hitting my strongest with a super effective move when she was already in the orange zone. But somehow we lived that hit with 8 HP! :o My strongest was still alive, but Rock Tomb lowered our Speed by 1. It was a gamble at this point if we are still faster than him, but I was running out of options, and staying in and attacking seemed to be the only way to deal with Quagsire.

ZERIA used Fly! Luckily we were still faster, so we dodged the incoming Rock Tomb. I was banking on Rock Tomb missing on the next turn, or on he using Mud Shot again. I was sure that any of his attacks with more than 0 damage would end us on contact. Using Fly, however, was a double-edged sword, because there was a chance that we miss.

We reached the second turn of Fly, when all these gambling factors would come into place and decide the outcome. And then luckily Fly landed. Quagsire had a bit more than 50% HP left, so I was anxiously waiting how much damage Fly does. And it somehow knocked out Quagsire without a critical hit! That, gentlemen, is probably the luckiest thing that happened in this match against Crasher Wake.

According to the calculator, a regular Crobat would have dealt 40.3 - 47.8% damage to Quagsire, but it looks like ZERIA collected a good amount of Attack IVs on our way here. I could have sacrificed ZERIA against Wake, because I had a replacement Crobat in the form of ZIMMY, but ZERIA has been with us longer and she also has some really good investments. :) All hail the bulky Crobat!

But to see how harsh things went, check the following image of my team after we defeated Crasher Wake.

NOTE: The picture was taken after I released BEREVIC, THORNANG and GORDY, but I haven't healed since then.

At this point, the episode would normally be over, but I had to go on a rampage to avenge my fallen team members. I went on a level-up spree with ZERIA, in an attempt to raise her to such high levels that she can take down gym leaders on her own. In the process, SHELLOCK evolved into a Gastrodon.

(https://i.imgur.com/MLyfVyc.png) (https://i.imgur.com/wzR9mLi.png)

I also wanted to catch a new team member in the Great Marsh, but it was at this point that a Team Galactic Grunt exploded the Great Marsh, which totally didn't happen in Diamond for real. Now I couldn't even go in to catch new team members, because Zane and Crasher Wake were blocking the way. >__<

The fury of ZERIA lead us after the escaping grunt. The grunt was running, while I was efficiently pursuiting him on a bicycle. At one point, Looker joined the chase too, but he ran ahead. When I next saw Looker at the Lakeview Hotel reception, he already lost track of the grunt and was interrogating the staff members. This was our chance to take over the investigation!

"Detective SHELLOCK, where do you think the grunt escaped the room?"

"Well, dear Watson. Seeing how there are only two exits from this room, and one of them is where we came from, he must have fled using the opposite door."

"That makes sense, thank you Detective Shellock!"

Ha! Suck on that, Looker. :D Who needs you (or Detective Pikachu) when we have Detective Shellock? SHELLOCK was right as expected, and we soon caught up to the grunt, who ran out of breath and couldn't run or walk any more. ZERIA took quick care of his lone Croagunk, then SHELLOCK and Watson were ready to capture the grunt. However, that's when main antagonist Deus Ex Cynthia came in to stall me in my investigation for almost a full minute, which was enough for the grunt to escape. Curse you, Cynthia! My plans were foiled again.

But what did Cynthia want from us, other than letting the grunt escape? Well, she told us that the Marsh is fine and that a new route opened up to the north, then she went on to ramble about the habitual behavior of Psyducks. For real. That's really all that happened, and that's exactly where I'll continue from in the next episode.~

For BEREVIC:

BEREVIC, the Bibarel: Lv.18-Lv.35, from Route 209. Died by Crasher Wake's Lv.37 Floatzel. Scummy Wake used both a Sitrus Berry and a Hyper Potion on his Floatzel, so BEREVIC couldn't finish him off before Floatzel woke up from Yawn.

For THORNANG:

THORNANG, the Torterra: Lv.5-Lv.34, my starter. Died by Crasher Wake's Lv.37 Floatzel. Ice Fang into Wood Hammer recoil was too much from full health, but at least he died like a hero, taking his opponent down before the fall.

For GORDY:

GORDY, the Graveler: Lv.18-Lv.34, my starter. Died by Crasher Wake's Lv.34 Quagsire. We weren't faster, so Quagsire knocked us out in one hit.

I spent a bunch of time backtracking, but I try to keep the episode short. Let's go over the team changes first.

1. Put a little PEP in your step!

What that means is that we can step along with our new teammate, straight from the backlot of Sir Backlot.
I called her PEP.~

2. It's hard to SCORE RUPEES when there are so many trees in the way.

I finally spotted a good place where I can catch Skorupis (score rupees), but a flying banana tree blocked my way.
Now the tree is in my pokeballs, and he's called TAPPERTON.

(https://i.imgur.com/aMc7tn8.png) (https://i.imgur.com/pEpFOFd.png)

3. Psychics don't always foresee.

This happened a while ago, so I forgot what happened here exactly. All I know is that it was a double battle before reaching Celestic Town, and GINGSH died. :( It probably has something to do with that Gyarados in the screenshot. Either that, or she used Wood Hammer on a Floatzel.

After the battle, my team was in shambles.

(https://i.imgur.com/z1uEtai.png) (https://i.imgur.com/LANXD5z.png)

After the long adventure, I finally arrived at Celestic Town, where the biggest attraction was a Team Galactic grunt threatening everyone with blowing up the city with a bomb. Just a normal Thursday in Celestic Town.

After defeating the grunt, I went in a cave where I instantly got surrounded by Cyrus, who came out of nowhere. :o

(https://i.imgur.com/Ur6kdh0.png) (https://i.imgur.com/EAFsDuv.png)

"Ah shoot, what do I do now!?"

I can't just DECLINE a challenge from Cyrus. Especially not when he has the remote control to blow up the bomb outside the cave. But healing is not something I've done recently, and I also have PEP on my team, who has no attacking moves yet. But hoping that he wouldn't have a full-six team yet, I hesitantly accepted his challenge.

Boss Battle: Galactic Boss Cyrus!

(https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/nintendo/images/0/0c/Team_Galactic_Symbol.png/revision/latest?cb=20111020170725&path-prefix=en) (https://i2.wp.com/quillstreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/200px-Diamond_Pearl_Cyrus.png?resize=200%2C509) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/nintendo/images/0/0c/Team_Galactic_Symbol.png/revision/latest?cb=20111020170725&path-prefix=en)

Finally, the big reveal! Cyrus is the boss of Team Galactic. It all makes sense now. Honestly guys, I was just trying to conceal this twist as long as I could, because otherwise it's too easy to figure it out.

The next day, I get my running shoes and bump into a guy named Cyrus outside our small town. [...] For those who haven't played Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum yet, don't worry. Surely he won't be anyone important later. :P
But then we met Cyrus again, who was blocking our way to the thing Zane wanted to show me. As I said earlier, "Surely he won't be anyone important later".
2. Cyrus

He was slowly showing his true intentions. An ultimate goal.

But naaaah! He's probably not relevant to the plot at all. :sillyspin:

It's worth mentioning that Cyrus has been my favorite Pokemon Villain before Guzma was introduced. He has such a commanding presence. And his team is also strong, which is why I was afraid of the upcoming battle with him.

First matchup: Lv.36 SHELLOCK vs Lv.34 SNEASEL. "Yes!", I said on team preview. One of his most threatening things to switch into is his Sneasel/Weavile, but I was very lucky that SHELLOCK just happened to know Hidden Power Fighting. On my current team, any other than ZERIA would have been a forced switch on the first turn, but luckily I could just use a 4x Super Effective move with a decently defensive pokemon to get rid of Sneasel on Turn 1. Good job, Detective Shellock! :)

Second matchup: Lv.35 SONIC vs Lv.34 GOLBAT.

The battle of signature fang moves.

Golbat used Poison Fang, SONIC used Thunder Fang. Abilities, levels and type effectiveness decided however that the winner of this matchup shall be SONIC, the Luxray.~

Third matchup: Lv.35 SONIC vs Lv.36 MURKROW. And he brought an unevolved Pokemon for last, so it was an easy wrap for SONIC. Woo, team!

After the quick encounter with Cyrus, I went on an even bigger backtracking spree than before, because I realized that I can Surf on any water surface now.

4+5. The cool and the cruel.

Surfing is a really good way to catch Tentacools, which I did in two consecutive areas.
These Tentacools go by the names TENECAC and TINCATA.

At least I am now maxed out on Tentacools.

6. Wacky wings.

I also caught a Wingull. I tried to call him WACKY but called him WACKX on accident.

*forgot to make a screenshot of the catch*

7. The floating zealous killer returns.

It was a Floatzel that brought down my starter, but now this Floatzel may redeem herself by making up for the loss. If she's as strong as Wake's Floatzel was, hope remains for redemption.
I caught Floatzel and gave her the name FROYZZ.

8. Psychics don't always foresee. Having Deja Vu yet?

So I got into a battle against an Ace Trainer on a faraway island. I kinda skipped healing before the battle, but his Staraptor also messed up the frontline of my team.

His next Pokemon was a Girafarig, a Psychic-Normal type. Usually ZERIA is my first line of defense against Psychic types, but she was already hurt. ZERIA, SONIC and TAPPERTON were all hurt and PEP still didn't have any attacking moves. My two best options were SHELLOCK and MYSTRO. I knew that Girafarigs have high Special Defense, so I sent out MYSTRO instead of SHELLOCK, because he's a Physical attacker.

The problem is that Girafarig messed MYSTRO up by landing a critical hit with the move Psychic. x__X

Then SHELLOCK came in and 1v1 defeated the opposing GIRAFARIG, so it turned out to be an avoidable loss. :(

"Lose a Girafarig and lose to a Girafarig."

The final team composition says it all.

REYNOLD and his team finally arrived at Canalave City. I finally found the Move Deleter, but that's all so far. There might be a gym and a rival battle on the other side of the bridge, but that's for another episode. Hopefully I can just get through the next episode without losing anyone. That is my current goal.~

Not much happened since the last update, but it feels like I did a lot. Harvesting 20 of the top notch berries and evolving a Pichu - then losing progress and evolving the Pichu again - takes a lot of time, but finally those are behind me now. Here are my updates:

1. I battled my rival Zane on the Canalave City bridge. It was a walk in the park.

Video will be uploaded later.

2. MYSTERY evolved into a Medicham much faster than MYSTRO. So I assume Meditite's evolution condition is to learn High Jump Kick?

(https://i.imgur.com/zBhetNw.png) (https://i.imgur.com/MC2Ky1M.png)

3. I finally reached Iron Island, which is the bane of every Nuzlocke with its caves full of exploding Gravellers.
Luckily, this time I brought Q with me who had the Damp ability, which prevents other Pokémon from exploding. :)

4. Met an ONIX on Iron Island.

5. Wanted a Barboach but got a Remoraid while fishing somewhere.

6. PEP finally evolved, then the game crashed, then PEP evolved again.

(https://i.imgur.com/fkNWVf8.png) (https://i.imgur.com/dO82MZs.png)

7. MERNICA also evolved. Now she is a blue egg.~

(https://i.imgur.com/u7NdUN8.png) (https://i.imgur.com/698sxoM.png)

8. Byron, the Steel-type gym leader, was easier to beat than one of his subordinates who had a single Scizor.

Video will be uploaded later.

9. A Giant Freaking Explosion and a lot of SCREAMING!!!

(https://i.imgur.com/ayal7BS.png) (https://i.imgur.com/ehKloCN.png) (https://i.imgur.com/llTTWlr.png)

10. Lake Valor EXPLODED and a bunch of Magikarps were flopping around.

11. I defeated Galactic Admin Mars.

Video will be uploaded later.

12. The number of the day was 69. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

After a long vacation, I can continue working on this series. :) Though returning after this long made me forget what I was doing and what I had to do next.

I aimlessly wandered around Sinnoh until I finally found a path where I haven't been yet. It was time to fight my way through Mount Coronet. But sheesh, the path is blocked by rocks, water, and fog? And one of my team slots is taken up by an Egg??? Well, I gotta put together the shittiest team before I move on. Behold!

ZIMMY, the Golbat: ZIMMY already learned both Fly and Defog, so I had to bring her for this job. Because of this though, I had to put away ZERIA.

MYSTERY, the Medicham: He's the one who's gonna use Strength to push those big boulders out of my way.

MERNICA, the Azumarill: MERNICA is our Rock Smasher.

Q, the Quagsire: He is responsible for transportation over aquatic bodies by the use of Surf. He's also here to prevent Explosions in dire situations (with his Damp ability).

EGG: Because I want Riolu to hatch already.

And finally,
PEP, the Pikachu: Honestly, I have no idea why she's here. PEP was holding the EXP Share, so I guess I was too lazy to switch it. He's gonna be one of my Electric resistances on my team, I guess.

(https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/0/0d/025Pikachu.png/250px-025Pikachu.png) (https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/0/05/308Medicham.png/250px-308Medicham.png) (http://static.pokemonpets.com/images/monsters-images-800-800/195-Quagsire.png) (http://static.pokemonpets.com/images/monsters-images-800-800/2042-Shiny-Golbat.png) (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/02/c7/05/02c70572482476ba3ec8c4962f883705.png) (https://img.pokemondb.net/artwork/vector/large/azumarill.png)

Looking at my new team, I gotta say that my team is in great danger of getting wiped if I'm not careful. :silly: And I was not. Two caves in and MERNICA is already dead. (Died by a Graveller who used Selfdestruct after surviving a Bubblebeam.)

Now I am finally out of Mount Coronet with only four Pokémon alive. I am heading to Snowpoint City, so I'm less than halfway to my destination. I could turn back to replace MERNICA and the Egg with someone more capable, but I don't want to fight my way though the caves again.

Since I am on a new route, this means I can catch a new Pokémon. I excitedly await how the game will attempt to let me down with something disappointing again. ^^"

I am updating this as I go, so I will post when something interesting happens.~

I barely passed the halfway point to Snowpoint City when I met a decently challenging opponent. If we consider the number of usable members on my team, any decent challenge is increased.

After healing up my team in a tent, an Ace Trainer challenged me to a battle. He put up Reflect with his first Pokémon, which doubled the Defense of all his team members for 5 turns. I switched in Zimmy, but after attempting to burn some turns of Reflect with Fly, he instantly burned me with Will-o-Wisp. So now my damage was quarter of what it has been before, because Reflect halves my damage, and being burned halves my damage again.

Then after a few turns of chip damage from Hail and Burn, he used Shadow Punch.

After the damage from the punch, hail and burn, ZIMMY lived on ONE health! :o I had to switch him out of there, but the damn Dusclops used Pursuit! So ZIMMY is now also dead, but with the help of PEP, I could defeat Dusclops and the remaining Scyther.

This is not looking good, but I'm trucking on. >_> I haven't caught the new Pokémon yet.

I finally reached Snowpoint City! :D But let's see what happened on the way here.~

When ZIMMY died, I was wondering why he was holding an Everstone. It looks like past_me made some decisions that are bad for this trip, so now present_me has to fix all problems that past_me caused. First things first, there was no need to keep PEP as a Pikachu this whole time, so I popped out a Thunderstone to evolve her. Luckily, the combination of Medicham, Quagsire and Raichu was good enough to survive the remaining half of the road with barely any trouble.

On my way, I caught a Zubat. I don't know how I feel about this right after losing a Golbat. However, I think it is a better catch than the Snover that I could have caught right after it.

When I reached the Pokémon Center in Snowpoint City, I unlocked the ability to Fly here any time without taking this journey again. I was happy for that. But then I decided to explore the city a bit.

@Audience: Hands up if you have played Pokémon D/P/Pt before and if you have been to Snowpoint City!

If you have been here before, you will know what's up. I entered one of the houses, where a girl wanted to know if I had a Medicham.

"Oh, I do have a Medicham! Maybe she's going to give me something as a reward for showing Medicham to her. :)"

And then the girl said the following:

When I remembered what's happening here, I NOPE-d the hell outta there. A bad decision here could have lost the game for me.

In the next episode, REYNOLD and his team will enter the Snowpoint City gym. Stay tuned!

Short update incoming.~

I was a bit worried about the upcoming gym, because I only had 2 realistic options against Ice. So before fighting Candice, I went around town to train my team a bit. In the surrounding, unexplored areas, I found a Snover and a Swinub who are now part of my team. Also, the egg hatched, so now I can use a Riolu too. :)

The training didn't take long, and I only made a few notable changes to my team. First of all, I brought out a few Water-types to resist Ice. I thought it would be good if FROYZZ, the Floatzel, had a super effective move against Ice, so I taught him Rock Tomb. Then the biggest change of them all, ZERIA, the Crobat, now knows Roost. :D That is crucial, because it not only heals back half of her HP, but she also stops being weak to Ice while roosting.

Now is the point where I should post a detailed version of the gym fight, but I don't have time for that today. (I might update this part later, because Candice is one of my favorite gym leaders of this Gen, and I don't want her to receive any less treatment than the others.) Candice had 4 Pokémon: Sneasel, Froslass, Abomasnow, Piloswine.

Sneasel was taken out by MYSTERY, the Medicham. However, MYSTERY got damaged in the fight with Sneasel, so I couldn't use him for the fights after it.
Froslass was taken out by FROYZZ with two Bites. Froslass tried to boost its evasiveness, but to no avail.
After that, ZERIA had taken out Abomasnow in one hit, then she proceeded to toy around with Piloswine a bit to see how good she is with Roost now. Piloswine used Stone Edge until its PP ran out, but only one of them hit ZERIA. (It was less than half, so ZERIA casually Roosted back to full health after that.) When Piloswine wanted to use Avalanche, ZERIA was already high up in the sky, readying a finishing blow with Fly.

After the battle, I concluded that ZERIA could have swept this gym alone without much harm. Therefore, I am setting a new challenge: Try to clear new routes or locations with only ZERIA. It should be fun. ^^

Next up, we will teach someone Rock Climb and continue exploring.~

It was time to make some progress again.~

REYNOLD's first destination was Lake Acuity, where Galactic Commander Jupiter already defeated our rival, Zane. We did not find a battle here, but we were thorough enough to find a new Psyduck who was willing to join our team. :) Her name shall be FLISS, and I hope she's not a captain of any boat if you get the reference.~

Next up, we had a visit to the Veilstone City HQ of Team Galactic on our list. I had assumed I would have gotten there several updates ago, but it's only now that we can finally get in. Inside, I neglected the ZERIA challenge to level up RATHALOS a bit, our team's Rhyhorn. I knew that my goal was to reach the room of the boss, but it took me a while to get there. Halfway towards that goal, I bumped into Looker, who was spying on a secret Team Galactic meeting. There, he had an interesting comment about Cyrus after the meeting ended.

"Oh look, I'm as old as Cyrus!"

"Da heck?! I thought he was like 40."

After that sidetrack, my way was sort of clean towards the final room. (Except that one Scientist guy in front of the television, who I knew would want to fight me. ZERIA was leading in that fight instead of RATHALOS.) In there, it was time for a rematch between REYNOLD and the ever-cunning leader of Team Galactic.~

Second Boss Battle: Galactic Boss Cyrus!

His team was good, consisting of Sneasel, Crobat and Honchkrow, but I had a trump card for this match. Long story short, Cyrus passed the ZERIA challenge. Or more like, ZERIA passed the Cyrus challenge. It's the same thing. (The ZERIA challenge is all about ZERIA single-handedly taking care of opponents or entire routes.)

Cyrus acknowledged his temporary defeat, and as a sign of his acknowledgement, he rewarded us with our first (and also last) Master Ball. It's an appreciated token, though I doubt I will ever use it.

Okay, so we defeated Cyrus, but why have we come to Team Galactic's HQ anyway?? Oh, that's right! We came to release the captured legendary pokémon: Mesprit, Azelf and Uxie. Cyrus did not care about letting us release them though, because he had already gotten what he wanted out of them; the power to bind something. Something big and even more legendary.

Before we could release them though, REYNOLD had to fight through the stubborn Galactic Admin Saturn, who did not approve of the boss letting us in. (Oh, and Charon was there too.)

Boss Battle: Galactic Admin Saturn!

(https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/nintendo/images/0/0c/Team_Galactic_Symbol.png/revision/latest?cb=20111020170725&path-prefix=en) (https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/34/Diamond_Pearl_Saturn.png/150px-Diamond_Pearl_Saturn.png) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/nintendo/images/0/0c/Team_Galactic_Symbol.png/revision/latest?cb=20111020170725&path-prefix=en)

[ Invalid YouTube link ]

I did not take Saturn seriously. I had just defeated Team Galactic's strongest member with only ZERIA, so why should I? I was prepared to complete the ZERIA challenge again, this time on Saturn. However, he started with the only chance he had against me: Chance! And by that, I mean he used Supersonic with a Golbat to quickly confuse ZERIA. His attacks were not strong enough to take down ZERIA, but if ZERIA kept hitting herself, it would add up to a nasty amount of damage.

So that was Saturn's plan to avoid being the next victim of the ZERIA challenge. It worked out well for him in the beginning, bringing ZERIA down to half HP with his Golbat. After that, ZERIA continuously tried to use Roost, but she kept hitting herself in confusion while also getting hit by Air Cutters. After 3 consecutive confusions, I really banked on snapping out of it and using Roost, but once again it failed! :o Shit, shit, shit - I was thinking. ZERIA barely had any health left, and another Air Cutter was incoming. And then... ZERIA lived with 7 HP! :o :o :o

To continue the ZERIA challenge and not lose my strongest Pokémon, my only option would have been to not get confused and use Roost. This was a huge risk though, so I cancelled the ZERIA challenge and switched in SONIC, the Luxray. SONIC could handle Golbat with a single Thunder Fang, so things started to look better.

Saturn's second Pokémon was a Bronzor, who my Medicham could easily take out without taking damage.

And then Saturn's last Pokémon was a Toxicroak, who I mistakenly thought would still be unevolved. (I expected a Croagunk to come out.) Since SONIC had taken out Croagunks in the past, I thought he could easily handle this one as well. However, Toxicroak's damage was no joke, so I had to switch out SONIC into Detective SHELLOCK, my Gastrodon. Detective SHELLOCK quickly identified Toxicroak's next move to be Poison Jab, which he concluded to be not very effective against him, thus ensuring a safe switch-in. Nice detective work as always, SHELLOCK!

SHELLOCK was my last bastion against Toxicroak though. ZERIA didn't have enough health to switch-in, my Riolu was seriously underlevelled, SONIC would have gone down in a single hit, RATHALOS was weak to Toxicroak's Fighting-type moves, and at that point, I assumed that Toxicroak resisted all of MYSTERY's moves (MYSTERY is the name of my Medicham). If SHELLOCK was about to lose, my only option would have been making a tough decision to sack a team member, then bringing in ZERIA to start healing by using Roost repeatedly.

I counted my options with SHELLOCK. His damaging moves were Surf, Mud Bomb, Body Slam and Hidden Power Fighting. HP Fighting was our weakest move, plus Toxicroak resisted it, so using that was out of the question. Surf would have been great, but I was afraid that Toxicroak might have the Dry Skin ability, which nullifies all Water-type attacks. If he had that ability, I would have just given him an extra turn, which would have been awful. (With SHELLOCK already damaged, I was certain that Toxicroak can defeat him with 2 attacks. And with SHELLOCK having lower Speed than Toxicroak, an extra turn would have guaranteed SHELLOCK to lose.)

My other options were Mud Bomb and Body Slam. Mud Bomb was sure to one-hit KO Toxicroak if it hit, but if it didn't hit, I would have just given him an extra turn again, which I could not risk with only 85% success rate. So really, my safest option was Body Slam, which was a 2-hit KO at best, and it also had a small chance to paralyze the opponent. With all this in mind, I went for the Body Slam and hoped to get a paralysis. As I expected though, it was not enought for a 1-hit KO. However, it was a good enough attack to make the opponent paralyzed! :o That was exactly what I needed. Paralyzed Pokémon have their Speed stat halved, which allowed SHELLOCK to move first next turn. With a second Body Slam, the 2-hit KO was completed and Toxicroak went down. (If Toxicroak would have moved first, SHELLOCK could have died right there.) This time, Detective SHELLOCK saved the day!

After the fight, I realized that MYSTERY did have a neutral move against Toxicroak (Strength), which I could have used in case things got rougher. Luckily, it did not come to that. ^^" REYNOLD proceeded to free the legendary guardians of the lakes, then quickly headed to Mount Coronet, where Galactic Leader Cyrus planned his next big move at Spear Pillar.

That, however, will be part of another episode.~

End of Day party stats:

This team is already prepared to go into Mount Coronet. The necessary Hidden Moves were taught, though I probably should have taught Rock Smash to Riolu instead of Rhyhorn.

It was time to make progress again!

That's right. I am still not dead and I refuse to lose with ZERIA on my side. Here is a quick update.

And most importantly, I am finally at Spear Pillar.

I already fear the next episode, especially with this team...

End of Day party stats:

On second thought, I do not need Riolu here. TENECAC is also replaceable for the upcoming fights.

Whew, I got a lot to summarize but I try not to go too much into the details.

At the entrance of Spear Pillar, our first blockade was a tag team of top tier Team Galactic Grunts. As far as I recall, this was not a challenge.

Further down, we were stopped by a tag team of Team Galactic Admins, Saturn and Jupiter. This was a more formidable combo, but our rival, Zane, rushed to our help. Let the horns of battle roar!

Boss Double Battle: Galactic Admin Mars and Galactic Admin Jupiter!

This was a perfect time to test if ZERIA can solo everyone on Spear Pillar. In the first matchup, ZERIA and Zane's Muchlax were up against two Bronzors. The Bronzors quickly set up a Reflect and a Light Screen, but Muchlax did an actual useful thing by using Screech to harshly lower their defenses. ZERIA used Bite to chip away the Bronzors while tanking the super effective Extrasensorys from them.

When Reflect wore off, ZERIA finished off one of the Bronzors and Munchlax paralyzed the other one. When PURUGLY came in to replace the fainted Bronzor, ZERIA needed to Roost, but Munchlax was smart enough to finish off the paralyzed Bronzor with a Body Slam. At this point, we were facing two boss monsters, PURUGLY and SKUNTANK.

Munchlax proceeded to remain useful, using Screech on both PURUGLY and SKUNTANK while ZERIA was in the air to prepare a Fly attack. Fly missed though, but so did the Hypnosis of the PURUGLY. During the next turn though, PURUGLY got in a critical strike, allowing Mars to take down Zane's Munchlax.

Zane sent out Staraptor next with a perfect timing. Staraptor's Intimidate ability lowered the attack of both enemies. PURUGLY almost took out Staraptor with a critical Slash attack, but Staraptor lived with just enough health to pummel PURUGLY into the ground with a super effective Close Combat attack. With Close Combat being super effective and PURUGLY's Defense being harshly lowered by Screech, it was a 1-hit KO. After this though, SKUNTANK took the opportunity to bury Staraptor's remaining lives with a well-timed Flamethrower.

To replace the fallen, Galactic Admin Mars sent out Golbat while Zane sent out his Heracross. The battle was heated. ZERIA flew up high in the air, avoiding the incoming attacks, but Heracross was not as lucky. Heracross straight up ate a four times super effective Air Cutter from the opposing Golbat, and I was ready to bury Heracross six feet under. HOWEVER, that is not what happened! Heracross only lost above half of his HP, tanking the attack and retaliating with a full power Close Combat to take down SKUNTANK from almost full health.

With both boss monsters down, Jupiter also sent our her Golbat, which immediately got struck by the attack of ZERIA, almost dying to ZERIA's attack on the first turn. The other Golbat, however, was quick enough to finish off Heracross with another Air Cutter.

However, Zane still had a leg to step back on. His replacement for Heracross was his Floatzel, which started out with a well-placed Aqua Jet to finish off the Golbat that ZERIA weakened beforehand.

Jupiter was now out of the equation, so it was down to a Floatzel and ZERIA to take down the last Golbat. ZERIA and Golbat used Bite and Bite back and forth for two turns. When the Golbat was weakened enough by the series of Bites, Floatzel came in with anothe Aqua Jet to finish it off.

With that, Zane and Reynold defeated the dastardly duo of the Team Galactic Admins. (The ZERIA challenge for Spear Pillar was completed!)

ACTUAL SPOILER for the conclusion of the Nuzlocke.

After a huge time skip, I finally reached the Pokemon League. Each member of the Elite Four chipped down one member from my team, except the last one, who chipped down two. This meant I had to face Cynthia with ZERIA alone. It did not go well, we went down to her Spiritomb.

That is the end of Reynold's adventure, and the eigtht failed attempt at the Nuzlocke. But this time, we got further than even. Who knows? Maybe next time, it will be a victourious journey.~
