A truly excellent demonstration of metanarrative and the unfolding mechanic. Looks like I'm going to be sharing this one with a few people.

I'd make a slight complaint that once Saoyori died - the rest was just slightly too predictable. Monika controls whoever you try to flirt with, and that person goes insane and dies. Once she killed everyone off, I quit the game in protest - It's a remarkable feat to make me do that.

The starting section was also just a tad too long - Although, as with all unfolding games, that's just to be expected. It's gotta lure you into that false sense of security.

Just played through it today. It's funny(or scary?) how much some of the writing relates to stuff I've personally written or said in the past. :p

I went the path of going for Yori, getting Saoyori killed via hanging, then Yori killing herself in front of me, and then the end scene with Monika. And I agree with Espi. It really was too predictable. However it's nice how after that it changes to you manipulating the game files itself and that having an impact on it. Also, I like how you can do that beforehand and have an impact too if you do it right.

And to be completely clear, I only played this game because a friend recommended it to me the other day and was just like 'you HAVE to try this'. I was like 'uh, ok'. This type of game isn't usually my thing tbh since I generally prefer a real book / 'choose your own adventure' book. This was alright though.

Finished my first run, starting second, damn that story.

Honestly, that ending was horrifying, and I've casually seen some gore. This ending though. I chose the Yuri path, made the mistake of telling Sayuri that i loved her, then saw her body with the corrupted background. The menu, with the glitches and her name all jumbled. It scares me what the second playthough would have changed. Monika knows too much as a casual friend, gonna keep my eye on her.

the spooks were too spooky. honestly, i went to reddit and tvtropes and youtube videos. I couldn't bring myself to play the game with all the imagery and 4th wall breaks. the fact that the game knows everything.
And Monika, fuck Monika. her jumpscare got me, even when she was on a video partially off screen.
Honestly, if i had the balls to keep playing like you guys, i'd probably see this more on my own.

The way they present reality breaking apart is scarier to a lot of people than anything else. It's extremely hard to get into my head on account of all the things I've seen, but this one did it for me simply because it makes you care so much; you open up and become vulnerable if you have the strength for it.

Now I just wish there was a saner version where I could keep Monika from going insane from her powers and by proxy also save the rest. I do love them all, each uniquely.

Of course this game put me in the mood to play Katawa Shoujo again. Hanako route is still incredible. I always was looking for a flower girl of my own. To any other fans, check out the Sisterhood fanfic. You won't regret it.

Played through the multiple runs until it wouldn't let me play again. I found it more humorous than troublesome. I enjoyed the touching bits, and rolled my eyes a bit at the horror bits. Maybe this is because I had an idea of what was coming and took it more as just a game, didn't suspend disbelief as much. Thanks to asdw152 for helping push me through the long first play and sharing bits with me that I would have otherwise missed.

Remember how you tell YURI that she has so much in common with the PROTAGONIST OF THE PORTRAIT OF MARKOV?
"The main character kind of reminds me of you."Yuri gets a bit nervous, looks at you and says:
"What are you talking about? We're not alike at all!"
 Yuri then calms down, saying something along the lines of
"Oh, I thought you meant, um...nevermind, we haven't even reached that part yet- I don't know what I was thinking!"

And..
You know what the name Yuri means? It is japanese for the flower Lily. You know which god of death is related to Lilies, which are used in funerals?
