I just finished to work on a spectator mode for Elements:

It is far from being perfect but it is fun to use and a nice feature for the tournament.

It works "capturing" frames from a pvp game:
No card animations, no effects.
No win/lose screen; when a game ends the spectator just gets disconnected because the game gets deleted from the database when it is over, but still it is usually quite clear who won.

Great, but one problem that I have, and probably evryone else will too is that you have to know wo is playing. Duels are OK like this because you organise it yourself, but this, I think should have a lobby, with a list of all the matches currently being played. But like I said, great stuff.

Now more of a request than feedback. How about a 'game log', that records what cards are played, which slots creatures go into, which creatures/permanents are targeted, who by, and possibly even a feature that, if you put the log into it, would play the game agian, as if you were spectating. If the last bit was put in, I suppose the raw output would be as some sort of code that is readable by the game, then can be either translated into english, or replayed. Or both, obviously.

Very cool. Like you said it's not perfect but it's a great starting point.

Guild Wars (MMORPG) uses an almost perfect spectator mode system that you could try to copy. I'm not sure if it's possible but I'll explain it nevertheless.

In Guild Wars, every time a top-100 ranked guild fights some other guild, or there is a tournament, the matches are recorded (with time delay) and anyone can view them. This system would be perfect for Elements as well.

Like I said I don't know if it is possible because you said games get deleted when they are over, but it would be awesome if it was possible to keep those top-ranked games in the database for a couple of hours so that everyone could view the maches.

Yes, but it could be coded in a way that only 20 most recent top-50 matches are saved on the server. When the 21st match starts, the first one (oldest) gets deleted.

Also there could be a maximum of 3 recorded matches per user so that one guy doesn't fill all 20 slots.

It wouldn't take much server space but it would proably be dificult to code.

That should be possibile. I don't know how much space one Game needs and how much he has. The system could also work with ormal games and the oldest will always be replaced by the news. Then you have as much games as Zanz has space for them.

After watching the finals of the recent tourney (congrats to Jmizzle7, by the way), I've noticed a few minor issues. Undoubtedly they already have been noted upon, but they are worth repeating in this thread.

1) Amount of cards left over is not shown.
2) Poison status effect is not shown.
3) Immortality status effect is not shown.

I'm sure other status effects don't work, either. Anyways, spectator mode is great, and it's always fun to see snippets of battle frames.

OK,i dont know if this is a problem or not but IT doesnt show real time matches meaning when 2 players pvp eash other and there in the middle of the duel and u click to watch them you start seeing from the biggining and not where they currently are,unless u watch when there name pop's up stright away,also it doesnt show everything as how many cards they use posion and such as what icybraker said,can we fix this problem,it would be kool if you do.

I'd like to second this request very eagerly not just for spectator games, but for regular matches as this would be a good indicator of where desyncs occur and the players could agree on a rematch as a result. I'd also think it a useful bug reporting feature to show that indeed a rage potion was used on a creature with less than 6 hp and it still lived, e.g. It may also reduce false bug reports where a player missed something like a miracle being used and thought instead that the game was glitching.

Really cool feature zanz...

if you ever get the chance and are not busy... it would be nice if we could see statuses (i.e. adrenaline, momentum...) and abilities (i.e. burrow, growth) correctly but not a HUGE problem or anything
