martial arts they say not to hold your breath while attacking, because you can attack better when breathing properly, on top of that, you are going through nwater, so atk power would at least be reduced. (that is right about the martial arts right?)

Well, here is the turn from the eyes of an immaterial being.

He starts in his own dimension, playing chess with that old Phase Dragon.
He feels it's time to attack so he gets back in OUR dimension, right in front of the opponent elemental and strikes him (and his shield), without ever going to the monster's board, not even to laugh at that noob Phase Recluse.
He switches dimensions again and sees the Phase Dragon cheating, starting a forever-lasting battle (because neither of them can die).

I disagree with that logical statement. The Phase Dragon is in his dimension, yes, but you can also visibly see him on the board. We can assume then, that he is not off playing chest, he is watching the battle and waiting to strike. Since we can see him, that means he is only partially in our dimension, in a ghost like state you could say. So why does he not stay that way until he reaches you and then come fully back to our dimension and attack? Simple. Becoming immaterial severely hinders your intelligence :D Thus they become material, then attack, then drown.

agreed, Someone said earlier that the elementals arent covered by the flood (cause otherwise they would drown), so the immaterials shouldnt be effected by it, but who says they would drown if they are the ones controlling the water?
One thing is that flood happens only on the upper and lower rows of creature field (either only the opponent's or both, depending on what Zanz decides), so it does not happen exactly where elementals stand.
Second - imagine a :fire :water elemental with fire mark and water pillars. This means he is an elemental made of fire... so do you think he would make his flood reach the place he stand on? In fact any elemental except water ones would probably not want their flood reaching the place where they stand, so in fact anything attacking them is safe from the flood as long as it can return to safety afterwards (either to the middle row, or to immaterial dimension, or fly above water).
May the force of the D4HK side be with U ^_^

Well, according to Zanz in chat, Flooding is not supposed to affect immaterial creatures and that's just a bug in the mechanics.

I won't bother with the details of how I think a flood should work, since it's too complicated to fit on the card. Suffice to say it combines time bubbles, poisoning, and un-poisoning; it doesn't affect water creatures or flying weapons at all, doesn't poison immaterial/immortal creatures, and affects air creatures only on the turn they're summoned.

More HP? Really now, drowning has nothing to do with how resistant you are to other effects.
How do you kill a creature in Elements? You reduce its HP to zero. Mutation and Devour and things like that don't count. Therefore, no matter how you damage the creature, whether by fire or poison or drowning, you still reduce its HP. Therefore, creatures with more HP survive longer.

About Nightfall and Sundial... I tend to think them as affecting the board instead of affecting the creatures.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

wouldnt a flood effect the board as well? I mean, its always there, and a flood of a battlefield would cover the entire board, not just part of it (aside from the 1 layer it doesnt cover) and it does more of effect the creatures instead of the board, because it has no effect on permanents/spells, and your weapon still attacks, so it doesnt stop ALL attacks, just creatures.

Fire an Poison do more... physical damage than a flood. A rat dies faster than a man if bitten by a snake. A man might not die if he's hit by a "fire blot" of the size of a football ball, but the rat will sure die. On the other hand, drowning has nothing to do with how big you are.

It can... How long can you hold your breath?
Whales hold it for hours.  Their heart beats like several (Very LOW number) times a minute which helps a lot. In general, the bigger the creature the slower the heart beat while also holding more air.

That's a little extreme tho.
