Title: Why GIMP officially sucks now....
Post by: TimerClock14 on February 05, 2011, 02:00:35 am
So I was working on a submission for the card border competition just now. I was on a roll and made the thing in just under two hours. It was really epic too. I had been saving all the while as well. So I go for the final save, and it doesn't save. "Hmm. Odd, GIMP hardly ever borks up." I thought to myself. So I try again. Nothing. This time i try and make junk data out of the unsaved temp files. That worked. Now all that's left is to reconstruct the data. Did that work? No. So now the only thing I have left to do is close GIMP and start from my last save point.
I open up GIMP again, open the file, and there's no picture. I try again. Still no picture. I open up almost every image in my computer. Still no image. I have nothing left to do but pray it's in the recycling bin. Is it? NO. Gone. Poof.

So at this point I'm almost ready to go into a mindless state of burning rage, but decide better since I have my computer within a 500m radius, oh and my house too. So now I'm raging and ranting and sulking and crying all at the same time.  :'(

.....It was my best work too......

That's gotta suck, big time.  :(

Here's a good trick to prevent that from happening again - take a screenshot of your finished work if it fails to save(or before you save if you want to be careful). Paste the screenshot into some other drawing program, crop it accordingly, and your precious work will not go to waste.

....have some cookies.

Ajit, FYI, that competition was inspired by you. ;)  http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,20788.0.html

I feel for you, man. A very similar thing happened to me on Pixlr. In my old graphic design class, Photoshop crashed too. Never trust graphic editing programs.

Except Paint.NET. That has never crashed for me, and I prefer it to GIMP.
