So all people are doing is looking up a number and posting what place their country is in?  Instead of saying why your country is better than any other?

Here is why Canada is the best country in the world.

http://members.shaw.ca/kcic1/canworld.html

And there is a ton more information about Canada not mentioned there.

Everyone is going by what Newsweek has listed.  Which doesn't actually say anything about the countries specifically.
More people would rather live in Canada than Finland, so why does Newsweek's rankings even matter?

The point is that Newsweek's rankings are objective and based on facts. You have never been to Finland, nor have I ever been to Canada. We might have some opinions based on tv, media or whatever, but those opinions are probably very far from the reality, so we are not really qualified to choose the best countries.

Where people would like to live, doesn't matter because it does really affect the general awesomeness of those countries. Popular opinion is not always the correct one. If it was, then we could estimate the quality of music by how many people listen to it.

United States is a good example of a country where a lot of people would like to live, but they feel that way only after watching tv and movies, that can easily give the impression that everyone in the US is a supermodel or a millionaire or both. They basically want to go there to chase the non-existent "American Dream". Reality is however that only a small percentage of the population are really well off, and there's a lot of people living below the poverty-line and having all kinds of issues like education, healthcare, etc. US is a great place to be rich, but not that great to be poor.

Switzerland is a place where I've always wanted to live. Looking that the article, Finland beats Switzerland with education, but since I already have my MBA, that doesn't matter to me. So for me personally Switzerland would be #1 and I'll probably have to move there very soon. :)

25. Why, why? Also here in my country it's much worser : high corruption rate, contracts  for millions and more. Now I'm reading article in newspaper about politics joking. They won't laugh for long.
I always wanted to live in Japan, except for the earthquakes.

Murders (per capita)
    Finland - 2.49 per 100kCanada - 1.67 per 100kUSA - 5.22 per 100k
Just murders, but crime overall is lower in Canada as well.

Scores were
--Finland - 89.40
--Canada - 87.29

Now there is not a huge difference there, so now let's take into consideration what each country has to offer.  What country draws more people to it?  Finland cannot offer what Canada can.  For a tourist, just because of the size of Canada, there are many more locations to visit.  I looked at a few tourist guides for Finland, and they boast about Finland's forest.  Canada has forests, with a bigger variety of vegetation and wildlife.  Now if someone wanted to move to either country, again, the size of Canada offers a better selection, urban and rural, temperate or just cold.

There are 42 national parks and national park reserves in Canada.

Canada may not be up to Finland's standards, but we are not far behind, but overall, we have more to offer.  Now comparing Canada to USA, well, in general Canadians are more accepted worldwide than Americans, and with a lower crime rate, much lower, and better health care, and Canada is more inviting to immigrants, there really is no comparison.  To move to the USA just for fame that will most likely never come and getting the idea from tv and movies does not appeal to that many people, not nearly as many as people believe.  Anyone with common sense would know that.  It's a lot harder to become an American citizen as an immigrant than to become a Canadian citizen.
1 CAD = 0.988725 USD
1 USD = 1.01140 CAD

With the dollars so close, there really is no appeal to move to the USA for money, especially since they have had more economic problems than Canada, starting up is a lot harder.

Oh, and Canada has produced the best comedians.

Pfft murder rate and health care rankings... all that really matters is that Canada won the gold medal in mens olympic hockey and Finland was a dull bronze.

Also every once in a while we send out a Canadian to take over the pop world; Bieber, Avril, Alanis, Celene, etc.

Yup. The whole point of the American Dream wasn't that everyone was rich, though -- it was social mobility. In other words, even a poor-ass immigrant could BECOME rich with hard work and a pinch of luck.

Too bad that's not working anymore, either. 8)
