Decided that for practice I would play all of CDW3 from the sidelines. This isn't official, of course, but for my own edification I figured I'd make it public.

In order to preserve the cleanroom spirit of card design competitions, I'll only be posting cards after the design portion of the round concludes. Further, I will not be reading any competition cards from the round until I finish designing. Any other card designers who have a mind to join this pursuit or give advice on the fact that I value "Cool!" over "Balanced!" over "Codeable!" are welcome to post here too; just make sure that for any card the challenge limitations are noted alongside.

Round 1:

Spoiler for Match 1:
Restrictions:
  • The Card must not be :water :air :earth. Any abilities are unrestricted.
  • The Upgraded Version of the card must cost MORE than the Unupgraded Version.
  • Card names must not include the letters: W, F or R.

As I was in this match, I will simply add my own card from the competition proper.

 

Spoiler for Match 2:
Restrictions:
  • The Card must not be :entropy :darkness :time. Any abilities are unrestricted.
  • Neither version may cost 0, 2 or 4 quanta.
  • Card names must have 10 or more letters. Punctuation and spaces do not count.

Restrictions:
  • The Card must not cost 2, 3 or 4 Quanta.
  • The text of your upgraded version must have at least 4 more words than your unupgraded version.
  • Card names must have 10 or fewer letters. Punctuation and spaces do not count.

  • The card must not belong to :darkness :aether or :death. Abilities are unrestricted.
  • Card names must not include the letters: H, F, or W
  • The card cannot cost 3, 5, or 7 quanta.

 


Round 2:

  • The card must not belong to :time :life or :air. Abilities are unrestricted.
  • The card must have an ability that costs quanta of a different Element to its cost.
  • The card cannot cost 4, 5, or 6 quanta.

Restrictions:
  • Card names must not include the letters: B, T, W.
  • One version (either upgraded or unupgraded) must have an ability that costs quanta. The other must have an ability that does not cost quanta.
  • The card cannot cost 1, 3, or 5 quanta.

Restrictions:
  • The card must not belong to :fire, :darkness, or :entropy. Abilities are unrestricted.
  • The unupgraded and upgraded cards must have different ability texts.
  • The card cannot cost 2, 4, or 6 quanta.



(Yes, these are different. Upgraded can choose target and includes more quanta.)

  • The card must not belong to :darkness, :gravity, or :time. Abilities are unrestricted.
  • Card names must not include the letters: F, T, V.
  • The upgraded card must cost more than the unupgraded card.

  • The card cannot cost 4, 6, or 8 quanta.
  • Card names must not contain the first or last letter of the element they belong to (So if you make a Water card, their names must not contain W or R).
  • The card text must have at least 12 words. Element symbols do not count as a word.

Restrictions:
  • The card must not belong to :aether, :time, or :air. Abilities are unrestricted.
  • The card name must have at least 2 instances of consonants present in the element it belongs to.
  • The card text must have an even number of words. Element symbols do not count as a word.

Round 3:

  • The card's name must not include the letters: B, M, L.
  • The cost of the two versions, when added together, must be either 7 or 9.
  • Card text must have 10 or fewer words.
  • Conditional - If :earth :water :darkness or :aether, must be able to affect your or your opponent's hand or quanta.

Restrictions:
  • At least 4 letters of the upgraded version must be different to those in the unupgraded version.
  • The two versions must cost the same.
  • The card text must not contain an elemental symbol from its category in the conditional.
  • Conditional - If :death :earth :fire or :time, must be a Creature.




Spoiler for Match 3:
Restrictions:
  • The card's name must be a maximum of ten characters long, excluding spaces and symbols.
  • The card's cost must be a prime number.
  • The card must not belong to :aether, :air, or :time.
  • Conditional - If a spell, must have an effect that alters the board either permanently, or for a certain number of turns.

English version of the math on this card - 1 irradiated counter gives all attacks a 25% miss chance, 2 counters increase that by (25% * 25%) or 6.25% for a total of 31.25% miss chance...and so on. Basically, as the field becomes more dangerous (not enough space on the card for more effects, sorry) maneuvering gets harder and so does actually hitting, but at the same time there's only so much impact that dangerous terrain can have on stopping attacks.

Restrictions:
  • Must be more than one word, and one of the words must have 3 or fewer letters.
  • The card's cost must be an even number.
  • The card must not belong to :air, :darkness, or :death.
  • Conditional - If a permanent, must have no effect to have more than one in play, either by being impossible to play (shield, weapon), or by having no additional effect (Shard of Patience, Eclipse).



Yes, the wielder is included in the potential targets. Lightning generally doesn't care who or what it hits. And yes, the stall potential is potentially really bad, but since I'm considering this object to be a 'tree' of sorts it made sense to make branches.

  • The card's name must be equal to or longer than 12 characters, excluding spaces and characters.
  • The card's cost must be an odd number.
  • The card must not belong to :air, :aether, or :earth.
  • Conditional - As a permanent, must have an effect on spells, spell effects, or quanta.

I already designed this card for the competition, though as an extra here I'll include my original design that actually didn't meet the requirements.

  • The card texts must both contain at least either one element symbol or the word "quanta", either in ability cost or in a condition.
  • Conditional - If a spell, must have a cost or drawback on top of the card's Quanta cost.



Know that rainbow which boosts this card? It hurts your creatures too.

Round 4:

  • The Card must not be :time :light :aether. Any abilities are unrestricted.
  • The Upgraded Version of the card must cost MORE than the Unupgraded Version.
  • Card names must have 10 or more letters. Punctuation and spaces do not count.
  • Conditional - As a permanent, must have a method of destruction in addition to PC, by running out of stacks/turns or by some other cause.



Spoiler for Match 2:
Restrictions:
  • The Upgraded Version of the card must cost MORE than the Unupgraded Version.
  • The Card must not be :aether :death :life. Any abilities are unrestricted.
  • Card names must not include the letters G, C, or H.
  • Conditional - As a creature, must interact with other creatures by targeting, by reacting to number or type of creatures on the field, or in any other way you can think of.

Restrictions:
  • The Card must not be :earth :light :air. Any abilities are unrestricted.
  • Your Unupgraded Version must have at least 3 more words than your Upgraded version.
  • The card's name must not include the letters: S, P, F.

  • Parasite - Silver Emerald may not make a permanent.

  • Being a semifinals card: Must take a second card, previously designed in CDW3, as its synergy card and be able to work with it.
  • The card must cost more than the card it is synergizing with.
  • The card must not be the same element as the card it is synergizing with.
  • The card must not be the same type as the card it is synergizing with.

Will add cards when I'm not failing so much to multitask.
