And both of those facts are pointless again. Tezca, as a Death Scythe can use basic soul perception. If he is reflecting a soul, the soul perception is improved. Improved soul perception allows someone to see through simple illusions and tell if someone is lying or telling the truth.

Soul Tracking: As stated by Tezca himself, he is also capable of locating the exact position of the soul belonging to any person that has been "reflected" on a previous occasion, regardless of how much distance there is between the targeted individual's actual location.[6] It has not been divulged as to whether this ability is still able to function while a witch's Soul Protect is in effect, however, there remains circumstances where its usage can be inhibited.[7]

The Soul Perception Ability (魂感知能力, Tamashii Kanchi Nōryoku) is a technique used by humans in the Soul Eater universe. While practically any meister, weapon and in some cases normal human can see the souls of the deceased, this unique ability allows a person to "perceive" the souls of living people.
By focusing on an individual soul, a skilled Soul Perception practitioner can actually "read" a soul and make accurate judgments about the person's characteristics, personality and wavelength. Knowing the wavelength of a soul can allow a skilled meister to match or disrupt the opponent's wavelength in or outside of combat.

Tezca has not been shown to do either, but due to the destructive power he has when reflecting sunlight, he can always just zap em

in that case, wouldn't it simply be mutually assured destruction, as shikamaru would throw a kunia/shruiken at him and pierce him through the head, but then be obliterated by his sunlight?

Exploding tag.

Basically, I'm wondering if you can destroy an explosion with sunlight. If not, we've got ourselves a winner.

2. That's because there were upwards of 50 exploding tags, razor wire and a pit trap.
3. It's also because Hidan fell into shikamaru's trap, something Tezca wouldn't do.
4. Hidan was also immobilized first, which is something that couldn't happen to Tezca.
