 :) I play MTG Since the Early days of the Game. I found Elements doing an online Search for CCG type games for a Linux machine. I find the game entertaining. It lacks the ability to counter a spell but, all in all doesn't suffer too much from that. I haven't stepped into the arena yet and truly am still learning the game.

Welcome! The Arena is currently the biggest gold/electrum farm in the entire game. Lots of inactive players and not enough slots leave for a bunch of 1/NaN HP decks. Use it well.

You could cast spells onto your own spell shield, lobotomise your spell-damage creatures - unless they are immortal - or force your opponent to play another shield on top of it.
