I hope everyone sees how posting activity is correlated with success in War. Most teams who didn't plan much in the beginning, were crushed, and most teams who did plan, were successful.

Team :entropy is one exception to this rule, as they got to top-3 even though they had a very slow start.

I know Light did a lot of strategizing and deck-building in chat, was that the case for most other teams too?

Also, what was your strategy in building the vault?

We started off just trying to build good overall decks and then realized partway through that the better route for us was to build specific counter-elemental decks.  Maybe a more interchangeable deck-building system would be better for an element with lots of options, but I don't think Light really could do that.

I don't know if that was the best way to do it, but things worked out pretty well for us until, obviously, the end.

If I remember we built allot of specific decks and added extra utility cards that could be subbed in depending on the opponent.  I think it was 8 or 10 unique decks  and then we filled the remaining vault with extras of cards we hadn't allready maxed and cards that were situationally usefull like holy light and purify.  Once our forum becomes open you wil see our discussions.  We pretty much did most of our discussions in the forum with only occasional pm's in chat.  Allot of team Fire was on the forums all day most days so the communication was very steady.  I think that was a strong point for us that so many of our team were as active as we were, talking and testing things.

::edit::  For instance when the War started I only had 2 or 3 posts, I am now over 100 and the majority of those posts are in war threads.

So some things I think we should discuss:

What teams did right; especially what they did that set them apart from other teams and/or what similar things they did.

What teams did wrong; especially blunders, but also regular mistakes and poor strategy.

Deck strengths. Perhaps someone could organize all of the decks used by overall usefulness or something along those lines.

Player performance. Which players made the biggest difference.

Anything else important we can think of.

I think keeping the vault not updated 100% of the time might be up there as mistake #1.

Looking at the war standings it is interesting to see that elements were eliminated with 10 - 14 losses with the majority at 11 or 12 losses.  Despite heavy losses early some elements were able to still create decks that carried them for several round despite people "knowing" what they might field while others didn't have the cards in their vault to absorb those early losses and field viable decks afterwards.

puppychow quote about first Light battle (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,8231.msg101592#msg101592)

Quote
So, things to notice:

Dim Shields
Earthquakes
Deflagrations
Immolations
Unstable Gases

Now, the earth/dark deck counters:
Unstable Gases
Dim Shields
Deflagrations (won't hurt it *too* much)

However, immolations will screw us over, as will earthquakes. We can counter the earthquakes by adding in two PAs, and maybe add in a steal to make the dim shields even more counterable.
Ack!  That's exactly the deck I proposed (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,8316.msg103430#msg103430) for candle to use that first time against Earth!

I wonder how many more strategy upsets there were in deck-building?

Something else that I think would be interesting to discuss is most used/useful cards. For instance, phase shields were used by pretty much every element with a lot of success.
