Our initial vault will be composed of two parts: decks, and cards we'll use when tweaking those decks.  Teams with a poor initial vault are doomed.

It's absolutely critical we get together our best decks ASAP so we can begin to build our vault.

Please use this thread to brainstorm deck ideas.  Test them if you can, and post your thoughts on where decks run into problems, etc.  This thread is about brainstorming creativity as well as give and take.  Comment on other people's decks and provide tweaks to address potential problems.  Discuss against which opponents a deck may be appropriate.  Also, please ensure this list includes:
  • decks that contain some less popular cards,
  • decks can take advantage of more ups,
  • and decks that use different member role abilities.  Making use of the strategist ability might make or break a team this War.
I run things a little differently than some Generals in that you are ultimately responsible for your deck choice each round.  I will not be choosing your deck for you (though I hope you'll listen to the opinions of your teammates and I  ;D).  So be sure the decks in this thread are decks you're comfortable using.

Have fun with it.

I'll get us started.  The War5 Air vault was built around the following decks.  We certainly won't use all of these and I'd love to see some creative deckbuilding out of the team, but this is as good a place to start as any:

My thoughts so far:

In general I don't think planning a specific deck as a counter to a certain element gives us an accurate picture before the war starts. While each element has strengths and weaknesses any intelligent General is going to select decks that cover some of those weaknesses. An element that builds 12 fast rush decks might win every match in the first round but will face control decks for the rest of the war. Its far better to be able to field a variety of decks and keep your opponent's in suspense longer. Ideally in my mind you'd like to have a few switch decks - decks that can either be played as stall or rush decks. That once you know what your opponent is fielding you can alter your play style accordingly.

Spoiler for Jen's other thoughts on War Deck Building:
  • I dislike including off element pillars and pends in decks (although there are exceptions to this rule) - I feel I'd rather make better use of the limited off element space in the deck to include something that :air doesn't otherwise offer.
  • We probably need to include a deck that counters Immortal and other deck-out builds
  • I'm hoping other people will go crazy building decks like I did

Spoiler for Very Elegant Deck From War #3 which included off-element pillars:

Control Decks
Spoiler for Decks:

The :air equivalent to Bone Bolt uses Shockwaves - but I think this is a better version. Eagle's eye contributes more damage than Arsenic and repeatable CC trumps one use much of the time. It can struggle against Grabbows - if they get lots early and leave them burrowed, but should handle most other rushes with ease.

Hurricane

This deck packs even more creature control that Owl's Bone, but in turn is more vulnerable to CC itself. It should deal with most rushes quite well - including grabbow decks.

Mini Octane

Just pulled this off my deck lists - haven't played it in a long time, probably needs testing to make sure its viable.

Getting Discord in play takes a little luck - but the deck is lots of fun and even seems reasonably fast.

Bolt-Control Deck

CC more CC and when in doubt some more CC!. Destroyer of all things Rush but wow does facing EQ with this deck suck!

Stall Decks
Spoiler for Decks:

I like the version that was played last war - this is a slightly modded version of a deck I used in BL, the quints and and nymphs make it less vulnerable to CC - the hourglasses speed it up. In my notes its listed as roughly 10ttw and deck out - so ignoring PC cards half the game is played behind a sundial. It is exceptionally vulnerable to Black Hole.

Fractal Dragons

Deck import code : [Select]

Built as a counter to immortal - this should crush most stall decks. It will struggle against most decks that pack mass CC, but should excel against lone CC cards - or even repeatable ones. In testing ttw looks like between 10-11, slow but not unreasonably so for a stall deck.

Rush Decks
Spoiler for Decks:

My 20 game test has this clocked at a 7.6ttw - reasonably fast - almost immune to EQ - and easily upgradeable. Even just upping the two Dragonflies would be awesome! The deck is vulnerable to early repeatable CC.

FFQ Rush

Deck import code : [Select]

Too slow to qualify as a true rush deck - it still clocks in at 8.3ttw (iirc - I forgot to record it in my notes). The inclusion of Hope allows the deck to switch between a rush and a stall playstyle.

I've done a new 20 turn ttw test with it - its 8.9 ttw and 70% win rate. I'm not a huge fan of the concept, but we need something that makes use of FFQ, or we end up limiting our in-element card pool.

Blessed Wyrms

Very vulnerable to repeatable CC - wrecked by EQ - I was looking for a deck that makes use of Wyrms as an attacker and that doesn't require a lot of upped cards - this is what I came up with.

ttw test gives this one a 9.0 ttw with a win rate of 71% - not exactly stellar. But again, we need something to make use of Wyrms or we end up really limiting our in-element card pool

Immo Rush

A little more subject to draws than I'd like - it provides another rushy alternative for us.
Please for the love of God don't use this deck! It managed an impressive 7.3 ttw in a 40 game test but barely managed a 50% win rate - that's just horrid!

P.S. If anyone has a valid idea for a Air based denial deck that would be pretty cool

FFQ, 8-9ttw average. Too slow to be called a rush but it's reliable and can beat anything without MASS early CC (pande, lobo, eternity) I outlasted the Aether AI3 dime shields twice with this and won. After 20 games it was 18-2 only losing to the Pande/voodoo doll ai3.

Thoughts:
I was thinking about BE dragonflies, but it's hard to protect said dragonflies and I'm not sure we need that much PC anyway.
I think a UG based deck would work best for a strategist since fire has cc/pc as needed, and UG can be dropped if there's a reflective shield, etc.

What would you bring vs decks with wings? PC or airbornes? both? well GL cause you will need CC and fast airbornes to beat this one.

Dont think it is vault material, also I wouldnt want to put in vault any EAs...I dont even wanna consider 6...

I added a timer to the opening post.  Vault is due 7 days from now.  I figure that means

- 2 more days for decks brainstorming
- 3 days for heated debates about which decks belong in the vault and who has the fattest mom
- 2 days to enter the cards in the vault, triple check everything, etc.

We gotta get rollin.  Tbh I expected vaultbuilding to be two weeks.  :-X  I'm probably the worst offender because I haven't added anything to this thread yet, but that changes tomorrow.  ;D

Don't feel like you have to wait until Wednesday to start commenting on posted decks.  Lemme get the ball rolling:

The :air equivalent to Bone Bolt uses Shockwaves - but I think this is a better version. Eagle's eye contributes more damage than Arsenic and repeatable CC trumps one use much of the time. It can struggle against Grabbows - if they get lots early and leave them burrowed, but should handle most other rushes with ease.
I had a similar idea but my build would've used 4-5 BWs, and Arse and Thunderstorm rather than OE and FW.  Over a long game, Arse deals more damage and damage that's resistant to shields.  What does everyone else think?

I think for vaultbuilding we should post them here, as it's easier to critique when we have deck images.  Later more of the conversations will take place in team chat, I'd imagine.

Fast & Packing fast Denial!

Regarding the Darkness Deck - I like the use of Nightmare - it provides high damage for 1 card slot (at least for the 1st use) and some denial ability - but is also an effective means of hurting a Fractal deck, if you can get a creature to use it on.

Regarding the Dim & Wings Deck - I think its probably overkill - but I haven`t tested it at all yet

I find bone bolt and in this case a variation very effective in pvp. OE maintains a nicer focus than arse but thats debatable (expect stall, go arse). SW vs tstorms is another issue: 6sw x4 dmg =24, 6 tstromsx2 =12... so if you tstorm 2 creatures at a time you break even, which is not a very bad deal when you are backed by BW

I really like the use of OE + FW as repeatable CC is OP vs one time use. The deck I posted seems to be efficient as a 'bonebolt' for air. The poison pulls out enough damage in case of low quanta and death mark means you'll always have quanta to play your death cards. OE does surprising damage when stacked up with a few poison counters and BW stopping all damage. If selective when choosing to use this deck, it may be unstoppable.

For the time being the only idea I like as strategist decks.

Other ideas I am processing for strategist decks:
  • customizable bows: its a trap mechanic (problem with its a trap is that after the game 1 surprise you are screwed, strategist role allows for further mindgames). Also flying adrenastaves mechanic in a bow CANNOT BE LEGAL

  • entropy/air duo: discords rush or domin at will, maybe squeeze in a diss shield for some extra stall?

To AnnaMall:
And pretty sure that's burd's airbow - not that it really matters

I love the concept for your :air :entropy decks. However I've got a couple worries about them - being unable to play Discord until the third turn seems like a significant liability - I played 7 games with the deck and in 4 of them playing Discord on the third turn reduced it to dealing damage as opposed to quanta control. I haven't tested the 2nd version yet - but is it worth having the making the flying weapons dead cards in that version? Perhaps 2 Abom, 2 Maxwell's in the Disco version would allow you a little more flexibility to get more OE into the Control version?

To Everyone!:
I've been thinking we need an Eternity Deck as well - gives us another means of beating Immortal and other deck out decks. Here's what I came up with - seems pretty solid from AI3 testing, kicks the crap outta rush decks, works surprisingly well against Dim Stall.
Spoiler for Flying Eternity Dragon Smash:
