When played, it belongs to the person who played the card. After it is played, it generates 1 :fire and damages its owner. Next turn, it has a 60% chance of duplicating itself much like Malignant Cell, on either side of the field, but only one copy. After it duplicates, it generates 1 :fire for its owner, and damages its owner.

1 :fire is only generated when the card is generated for a player, each Wildfire does not produce :fire per turn.

The "Sensitive to :water and :fire effects." clause refers to Wildfire's ability to have a 100% chance of duplication if it is targeted by Deflagration or if its owner is targeted by a Fire Bolt. Conversely, 1 copy of Wildfire is removed each time its owner is targeted by an Ice Bolt or by a Purify. Flooding the field removes all Wildfire from both players.

Wildfire compared to Alate Hive is a little more volatile and does not destroy any Permanents whatsoever. It's meant to represent a spreading fire as best as possible, and embodies a "Burn" DoT (in some ways) without any counters.

Who has space for more permanents when your junk is on fire? Ain't nobody got time for that!

@Dhanzig: It should be in the notes, but basically you should figure that if you try to Fire Bolt someone with Wildfire or use Explosion on a Wildfire, naturally the fire should spread, Purifying a player through a Water spell or cooling them off with some Ice Bolts might do the trick to control the Wildfire and if a field is flooded, well...

I'm hovering under 30 games away from 10,000 played and I don't know what that means ... Pretend I'm new to Elements!  Does the damage increase? Does it generate more  :fire ... does the picture get bigger?!  I read the notes to find out before asking and saw nothing ;)

I think it would help if the mechanics were made simpler.

This card comes into play on you opponent's side
Spread: At the end of each turn generate a copy of this card
Wild: Generated copies of this card have a 50% chance of appearing on the opposite side

Welcome to the club I guess? ... Lol ... I'm not sure when I hit that mark myself... sometime over the summer I think.

Its interesting to have this as a permanent... I was thinking of making a similar card as a creature, but couldn't think of the proper wording / mechanics for it. This is certainly a fun twist on that idea.

I think that despite the wording which may not fully describe what the card will do, it explains enough. My main concern is that the damage may be a little too high. Any thoughts?

Hmm... maybe something like:

Still doesn't explain everything but at least clues in users that :water and :fire effects will also influence this card's behavior...

Now effect 3 is normally merely overcomplication. However there are cases where it is not. Effect 2 gives effect 3 a way to trigger that does not involve paying the casting cost. Thus effect 2 is required to justify effect 3. Effect 2 does not require effect 3 on the other hand.

Effect 4 interacts with effect 2 thus it requires effect 2. Effect 2 does not require effect 4 on the other hand. Effect 4 seems to be a situational effect.

I suggest removing effect 4 and possibly removing effect 3.

Now, normally I would follow the former Idea Guru's suggestions, but I really wanted to design the card in this way for 2 main reasons:
  • If it would not generate :fire upon appearing, it would only be a damaging detriment to the original player, which seems a little unfair. :fire Fire players should be able to get a little more out of a :fire Fire card.
  • The fact that a :fire Fire spell, Deflagration | Explosion would normally be able to remove permanents makes sense, but not in the case of a rampant fire. Adding explosives to an already blazing fire should not do much to control it.

I like making cards as simple as possible, however I also often design cards so that the timing and targeting of them make the difference between an EtG player, and a good EtG player.
