Challenging Oneself

For those who don't know, my IGN is dracokagebuyo.

The above shot comes from when I challenged Rutarete, only to find myself up against my own deck.  This happened several times again after.

I guess this may be from some sort of desync error, but I am unsure of that, hence this thread.

On a tangent, is it intended that you can challenge yourself in Duel?

If you intentionally try to duel yourself it should not be possible: I tried it myself but servers won't let me.

I've heard of this happen before, but as far as I know there was always a third person involved (two people facing eachother, third person facing her/himself).

That's weird.  On a separate occasion, I've found myself able to connect to the server against myself.  Of course, the AI takes over after the first turn.
