Ok, so now I get to the 'more' part. Let me preface this by saying that when we decided on this deck there was one deck we simply did not want to see from
, and here DD came with it. I knew I had a chance because it could be outrushed, but a Hope spelled despair for me.
Game 1: I see an Aether mark and my heart immediately sinks, especially since I didn't have a very good start. I started pumping out my Golems and my Pulvy, even threw in a dragon at the end to get the best of him. He managed to Fractal his flies once, but I never saw Hope. I had a glimmer of hope myself when he played a Light Dragon the turn before I killed him, "Maybe he was expecting Immortal and they didn't bring Hope!" 1-0
Game 2: Yeah, that thought ended quickly. I put out a Pulvy before I put out a Golem, thinking I could nibble away at his supply of Air quanta so he wouldn't be able to play flies that he Fractaled. While it certainly didn't cost me the game, it was certainly a mistake nonetheless. He was able to Fractal his flies, got Hope out, I was able to ping over the top for about a turn, but then the flies came and killed me quickly. I could blame it on a slow start on my part, but this game he seemed to draw what he needed as he needed it. 1-1
Game 3: I was definitely jittery at this point. Not only was this indeed the deck we had feared, but it was slimmer than the one we tested against, meaning that they would draw what they needed to shut me down faster. A one pillar hand was NOT what I had in mind. Despite this, I was able to start getting some damage out, enough so that I thought I
might just be able to pull it out. He had out some flies (I forget how many, but my Golems were able to ping over top of the Hope that was out), and all I needed to win was for him to NOT topdeck a Fractal. He topdecks a Fractal. 1-2
Game 4: I needed some luck. I needed him to have just a little less luck. I may have wished him just a little less luck than I had wished him the previous three games. I actually feel a little guilty about that, since the RNG was indeed fickle. I got a much better start to this game, and was soon pumping out Golems with a wild abandon. He had no Hope and he fell pretty quickly. 2-2
EPIC GAME 5: I would be lying if I said I wasn't perspiring more than a little a this point. I got off to a good start and was able to start playing my Golems on turn 2, but he dropped 9001 quanta producers on the first turn and scared the everlovingcrap out of me. I saw a couple of early flies and his store of light quanta was building. He had played an early Fractal due to my quick start and accumulated 5 light, then 8, but no Hope. I might be able to pull it out! At this point, there were 4 Golems, a Pulvy, and a Gnome Rider out. I had him at 16, one more turn without Hope and the match would be mine! Suddenly: Hope. Crap. At this point, I'm thinking it's gg, but only one more fly comes out, so he's down to 7. Another fly, now he's down to 3, with my Golems pinging him for only one damage each. If he draws another fly or a Fractal I'm dead and not even the dragon in my hand will save me (8 damage dragon gets him to 1 and his creatures kill me if he draws the lone fly). He draws another quanta generator and my Golems are able to ping over the top of Hope to bring it home for me. 3-2
DD, that was some rotten luck on your part, you are the definition of class. You guys had us dead to rights, but the RNG can be cruel. Considering the luck you've had drawing us, I hope for your sake that you don't have to see us anymore this War. Best of luck going forward, my friend. We've both come a long way since our first meeting so long ago.
This IS my Pulvy....
