Should high rank players be able to submit decks for lower leagues [poll added]? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=27601.msg351331#msg351331
« on: June 14, 2011, 08:32:43 pm »
Can a player with a high score (e.g. lvl 40) generate decks for lower leagues (e.g. Bronze)?
This is something I am actually thinking about:

Letting high level player submit decks in low level leagues might cause a flattening in variety (bronze league have mostly lvl19, silver lvl39, etc.).
However, higher level leagues will yield more coins per win, giving players a reason to move to a higher league.

Not letting high level players in low level leagues might cause certain leagues to overcrowd over time. Right now the score limits are set to divide the entire game population in 4 fractions that are about 25% each; my guess is that the gold league will overcrowd over time.

The discussion about this particular issue is open.
I think, the discussion about this point should not be in the T500 thread. Because I have brought up the question, I think it would be a good idea to create a thread for this.

For discussion, please read the T500 thread and the zanzarino speaks about new features thread , if you didnĀ“t.

I think they should be allowed, but the amount of skill points used should be maximized at the maximum level of the league.

For example.
Player X is at level 72 and in Platinum league currently, he can distribute 72 skill points for his deck. If he decides to enter Gold league, he could only distribute 59 skill points.

I think players would rather took the challenge for higher rewards, than settle for the easier scoring, but in some cases you might not stand any chance. If you enter Gold league with level 40, you will be 19 skill points behind of the leaders. To stand a chance, you should have the option to chose and move to Silver league and then only use 39 skill points.

That my  :electrum...

Also maybe you could include a poll?

Totally should be able to. I might consider losing about 2k score on purpose if it doesn't work that way...

My question, which I think isn't covered in the T500-thread is:

Can players of any level/league chose to play against all leagues at any given time?

If yes, then deck-submitters should also be able to submit into lower leagues than what
they actually are score-wise.
If no, then this would be very sad but everybody should be bound to remain in his own league ...

I think leagues should be open to all comers (i.e. anyone can play vs. any league at any time), but that players should only be allowed to submit decks into their own league.  The lower leagues will already be crowded, there's no reason to further overcrowd them by letting higher-level people submit to leagues that are 'beneath' them.
If something happens and you think it deserves my attention, feel free to PM me. Other than that, I'm probably here if you want to shoot the breeze.

It kinda depends on how rewards are handled. If you are rewarded just based on the wins that your submitted deck does, then there's basically no reason to do anything but play at the highest level you can, at least as long as it takes at least a day to get eliminated from the league from a new submission. Higher level presumably means higher chance of winning, and is stated to mean more monetary reward. If this is the case, might as well allow people to submit to whatever they want.

If reward is based on league standing, though, it should probably be prohibited to submit to lower leagues, as anyone below the top levels will be at a strong advantage, and there will quickly be a (more severe) rich-get-richer situation.

I'm leaning towards voting overall to restrict people to be in whatever league they are actually supposed to be in score-wise. For the people who refuse to be at the bottom of a stronger league in favor of being at the top of a weaker league, they can begin and resign a few FG games or something to drop their score quite quickly.

So am I.

And Essence, I think the higher leagues will be much more crowded then the lower ones. People in higher leagues are generally more active players.

Also being unsuccessful in higher league's could force players not to improve their scores anymore. Just staying at the top of the league and not being motivated to get further. Of course this won't happen with everyone, but I think it's a serious issue on the edge of Gold and Platinum league. I think this would be a greater disadvantage to the game, than higher league players clogging lower leagues, since the result would be the same with more discouraged players!

If you are afraid of higher league players filling up all the good spots (even if they're limited to the maximum amount of skill points in that league) you should think, that really soon the same trend will appear as players will rather drop their score for higher rewards and to be more competitive in the lower leagues. So the result is the same as if we allow players into lower leagues.
