I was hoping someone would do the Banshee. Interesting take. I was hoping it would involve more a "calling to death" mechanic involving sound and possibly :air Air, but it's nice nonetheless.

According to the myth, if you hear a banshee crying, it's a warning that someone's about to die. "When several banshees appeared at once, it indicated the death of someone great or holy." [quoted from Wiki].

Anyway, after giving it a second thought, I was wondering about a creature's attack when it reaches zero. Should it turn negative, or just gain 0/-1 after that?

Oh definitely. A Banshee is all sorts of related to Death, however in regards to the skill, especially dealing with a loud wail, I figured it would be dealing with :air Air as a sound. And oftentimes a Banshee is related with sound and screams in RPGs.

Just thought I would give you ideas . ^_^

Although I can understand the idea of having air as skill cost (because of sound), mechanic-wise death may be better, especially with Mourn as skill name. If the ability cost changed to Air, the effect should be buffed, as it would require a duo deck. But I like to think that it is balanced.

I say it -should- turn negative, considering how expensive the overall cost it could take to get certain creatures below 0 attack.

A lot of creatures generally have near-equivalent amounts of ATK|HP, or ATK > HP when they're non-upped (Blue Crawler, Forest Spirit, Maxwell Demon, nearly all of the dragons, etc.); the Wiling Spirit or Banshee would probably kill them before getting their attack below 0 anyway. Other creatures which are designed to absorb HP, however (like :gravity), could run into the situation of their creatures benefiting you with the large amounts of HP and extremely low attack (Otyugh, Armagio, Massive Dragon).

Just my opinion though. :)

Heh, thanks, Kuro, you pretty well explained the matter overall, and personally, I agree with all that. Should I display this at the 'Notes' section?

I would really like to hear more opinions/remarks about this card, we had some great brainstorming with Shantu about :death lacking in :death while she was under construction.

And I feel she's a bit neglected.. :(



Also, I'm thinking about changing the skill name simply to: Wail, but undecided yet.

Mourn is nice, but if you don't feel it sounds like you want it, how about Death Wail? It gives it a reason to keep with Death as the ability element.

Personally, I would keep it as 'Mourn', because the ability name sounds cooler and matches the card. Also, congrats on having your card win the competition tikotribe! ^^ (It has been automatically moved into the Crucible and has gained an additional round of survival in the Crucible)

I'd prefer that the ability does not get the attack below zero because in general units with more hp than attack are weaker than the others and if it can make the attack negativ its another disadvantage for the weaker creatures because dead is way better than negative attack.
The upped version is way to overpowered in my opinion. The effect of the ability is doubled and thats the main reason to have a banshee in the deck (usually the upped version is not worth double the unupped) and the upped banshee itself grants +1/+1, it should stay a 2/2 creature and mourn could be nerfed too (-2/-1 or -1/-2), i dont think it will appear that strong in the game.
Additionally i got a general problem with this card: Like you said it enables :death to kill something (except for plague, which is slow) and that may cause :death to get to strong because it has so many ways to use dying creatures. In general i prefer :death to get units which die itself or kill allied units, that way units die and can be utilized by other cards, rather than being able to kill enemy creatures.
