i think the effect idea is kinda cool... ( :earth type of Devour... haha :P)

but i think the card's a bit weak honestly (sorry :()...

12 cost for 5 attack seems pretty low, and it takes quite some time to get stronger, then again it only gets stronger if there's targets to Duel... isn't it a bit underpowered? O.o

maybe cut the quantum cost? other than that it looks great to me  :D

Perfect?  Ha!  Far from it.  Arrogant much?  This isn't balanced yet.  Compare it to the Otyugh.  I'm willing to wager that more creatures have less than 5 attack than creatures with less than 5 HP.  And while the Otyugh's functionality can be reduced by attacking its HP, no mechanic exists yet that reduces attack power.  5 attack is also a decent attack by itself, and it's only going to get stronger!  And 8 HP is pretty high HP.  12 :earth may mitigate some of this, but that's a minor hurdle to cross for any deck with a reliable source of :earth.

That's a nice start, but I have a feeling that a card like this can potentially make :earth one of the most hated elements in game. If this card was paired up with an Otyugh on the field and given immortality via Quintessence, then no creature would be safe unless they had both massive amounts of HP AND attack.

Also - for your card description:

"Duel: if the target creature has a lower attack, kill it, and gain 1+|1+."

...needs to match the card; editing the parts in red, you get:

" :earth :earth Duel: if the target creature has lower attack, kill it, and gain 1+|1+."

That said, Ares is the God of War. Challenging a single creature on the field to potentially gain +1|+1 feels a little bit... 'un-warlike'. Why not give it a very low HP for both the non-upgraded and upgraded forms, while increasing its attack, and giving it an ability where it 'challenges' ALL creatures on the opposing field? If it's strong enough, it can take on multiple creatures, but otherwise, it could end up killing itself in the process.

Just a suggestion, of course. ;)

Oh, and be careful about the image you chose: the page, http://connect.in.com/ares-v/photos-1-1-1-2dd6008983928ed71401e07366d65d84.html , indicates in the bottom right corner that it may be subject to copyright, but I'm not sure if it's still royalty free (I keep on getting links to websites in French, which worries me).
