Given the almost unanimous yes vote, the real question now is do we request art at Forge, or at Armoury (Aka Cygnia)

Forge, IMO.

I'm interested in a trial period that goes Crucible >>Art Required >> Forge >> Armory >> Cygnia. If that ends up being too strict, we'll change the order to Crucible >> Forge >>Art Required >> Armory >> Cygnia.

You all know I'll help with art as much as I can.
Given the amount of art you can churn out, I'd look forward to it. :)

I think the crucible to forge transition is a good spot. The art doesn't have to be finished there, but it should at least give a rough idea of the concept so it can get worked on and polished a bit before hitting Cygnia.

i do not think that gaming cards really need an awesome picture or artwork,
even a stickman is great.

People can easily draw low quality stick figures that have nothing to do with the card to circumvent the art requirement, though.

It takes more or less the same effort to make a relevant stick figure as it takes to make an irrelevant stick figure given that the card designer is already thinking about their card.

It takes half as much effort to add a relevant free to use image instead of drawing a stick figure(weird but true).

I actually think art can be a distraction when judging a card at its early stages. The true importance of adding a new card is improving the game. Whether that's through new mechanics, a counter balance, etc.; how the the card functions should be the primary concern at first. Sometimes people vote based on the art, or the art influences their voting, when really it is the effect of the card on the overall game that matters most. The art will matter when it comes time to put the card in the game, but that should come at a later stage, when the function of the card is ironed out and the art can best reflect the final form of the card.

tl;dr Art is a distraction at early stages. Focus on the mechanics. Bring in the art later when it best reflects the card after iteration.

So would you suggest a rule that actively prohibits pre-Crucible art?

Maybe I might like it, but I wouldn't push for it. I do, however, support not requiring art at early stages.

Not really the problem, but more the counterpoint to his point.

General opinion indicates Crucible >> Forge should be our checkpoint. Does anyone feel strongly otherwise?

I'd be okay either way, but I've become used to providing art as part of my process that it will be difficult to do otherwise.
