I think one of the most common mistakes with the halfbloods is that people start fighting them too early with completely unupgraded decks and that just doesn't work, at least not for grinding or similar. If you have a semi-upped or fully upped deck on the other side it shouldn't really be a big problem winning against them.

Using mono aether is still the best choice for people who have just started. Dim shield alone can completely wall a huge amount of any AI

It is definitely possible to grind ai4 fully unupped and rareless. Mono aether is a great choice like timetock said (and easy-to-play), but there's other options available as well. The mistake IMO is that people go into ai4 with decks that are meant for ai3 (or custom-made decks that are around ai2 level). AI4 is the first time people actually see an opponent that has extra HP, extra mark, and extra drawing, and generally aren't prepared for it due to having a deck designed to beat an opponent with equal stats.
