Alright, I see the confusion.  Wither beasts damage DOES stack with a wounded player.

E.G

You're at 90/100 HP.
Wither beast hits you.
You're at 87/97 HP.

I'll make a note of that in the OP.  Should I reword the card too?

I think if it just reduces the max HP without dealing damage it will be more reasonable and less likely for people to say it's over powered. I really like this card since it's one of the few ways to counter healing-heavy decks.

Maybe make this like Aflatoxin, giving the target creature some sort of poison? When it dies, it becomes corrupted?

Tthat idea would work.  Have it 'Corrupt a Soul'.  The affliction starts out as poison and when the creature dies--it becomes yours.  (It would not remove abilities tho... that's a bit over the edge methinks)

I can't believe I didn't think of that.  Good suggestion.

It will also give the victim a chance to prepare for what's about to happen.
With a 2 point corruption counter (effectively poison counter) most dragons would be converted in 3-5 turns, Annubis would have time to immortalize himself, growing and a-blazin' creatures could still live indefinitely.

I do think the abilities should be converted to black. Since black can accumulate mana easily, the abilities' cost should be + 1  .

That would be a nice balance.

Decks that don't rely on healing will not be harmed by Wither Beast. If you take 10 damage from a Black Dragon and your max HP decreases by three, you're still at 90 HP. If you have no healing spells, it's not going to matter if your HP is decreasing faster than your max HP. Even if you have two Shards of Grad your life would still only go down by three. And if any other damage comes Wither Beast won't really matter.

Wither Beast is a great counter for:
Miracle
Holy flash/heal
Shards
Empathy

It's casting cost of 5 is reasonable and it's not overpowered. I also think it's way of dealing damage is very creative and original.

This card isn't too complex. I think after you see it in action it will be easy to figure out what's going on.

I do think that it's too cheap. Maybe increase the cost to 4 / 3 to reduce the card's power.
