The Arena / The shame of my Oraclebow
« on: August 10, 2011, 04:14:46 pm »
The decks I build for the arena regularly get trounced.  Not just beaten into submission after a couple of days, but absolutely levelled after 5 games or so.  I still suck at deck building, but I also try and make something different for the Arena that I've always wanted to do before, but needed a triple mark or double draws, what have you, to make them anything near viable.  I'm sure that people have had some fun laughing at my mono-time, mono-gravity, voodoo+pandemonium decks, etc.

But this time, I just wanted to win for once for goodness sake!  So, I built a speedbow around the Oracle card.  By that I mean that I completely ignored what the Oracle gave me (Phase Reculse) and just built a speed bow deck.  It's 10 and 1.  I feel dirty.

The Arena / Re: This is a problem...

I thought you get the same score as you do electrum. so how is it destroying your score and fattening your wallet? :P
Yes, but you thankfully the game doesn't take away electrum when you lose.  It does, however, take points away from your score for a loss.   :-\  Winning about 30% on Plat can give you a nice boost to your electrum, but is surprisingly hard on your score.  And yet, still I can't stop...

The Arena / This is a problem...

I'm addicted to The Arena.  It's seriously a problem.  I think it's flawed in many ways, and I will generally just quit if I see and entropy or fire mark come up, but I can't stop playing it.  It's destroying my score, and fattening my wallet.  You would think that with the number of times I have gotten three wins in a row in Gold, only to lose on the fourth would have driven me away.  Not so!  It just drives me to get that next 4 win streak (which have been suprisingly sparse lately).  It's those damn EMs for 300+ ele!  Everytime I get one of those, it just feeds my addiction.

Help!   :D

The Arena / Most annoying decks in the Arena
« on: July 28, 2011, 05:34:22 pm »
I realize with the vast number of decks in the Arena that you get quite a bit of variety, but everyonce in awhile I'll come across the same deck a couple of times a day.  And with that, I am starting to discover which decks are just plain annoying.  My number one annoying deck right now is lord_jadem.  Fire deck with a darkness mark (maily for steals, apparently).  A million SoGs, something like 30 explosions, 30 fire lances, 30 rains, 30 steals, 30 of whatever else kills all my creatures and permanents, and not a single creature as far as I can tell.  Just plain annoying.  :)

Edit:  Poll added. :)

Yeah.  Rewind is so annoying I usually don't bother with this guy.  Unless I'm close to decking.

You know, when he loses like this, he's gotta be hopping up and down yelling at his creatures, "It's ONE FRIGGING LAVA DESTROYER!!!!  You're getting beat by one creature.  WTF?!?!?!"

Ah!  Should have looked at the rules on the contest more closely.  I was trying to figure out what the hell these were all about.  :)

General Discussion / Voodoo PvP
« on: May 25, 2011, 07:43:15 pm »
I was looking through one of the PvP tournament threads and in the decks that people showed, almost all of them had voodoo dolls.  I can kinda see how using these and pandemonium or rage elixir would be something useful, but I saw them even in decks without either of those.  I must be missing a strategy with how they are used.  I've been goofing around with building decks with them, but I can't seem to find a coherent strategy where they are incredibly useful.  Is there some attribute with them that I'm missing for why they are so popular?

(Forgive the newbness)

General Discussion / How do you spend your time in Elements?
« on: May 25, 2011, 03:26:17 pm »
After getting back into the game, there seems like a lot more stuff to do than when I first started playing.  Lots more activity on the forums, different challenges for single play.  Un-upped PvP (fun!) option.  :)  I'm curious how you all spend your time in Elements now.  For me, it goes something like this:

1)  Grind my score back up above 15K in AI3.
2)  Play some FGs until I get enough upped cards to replace/sell to upgrade another card in my USEM deck for AI3 grinding (althought it works very well at about 75% upped).
3)  Switch to some random deck I've created to goof around in PvP1
4)  Wonder what it must look like to someone coming into PvP1 with a score of a couple of hundred, when they see my score pop up and how much they can win if they beat me.
5)  Further wonder what it must look like to them when I play a deck with no pillars or weapons and still beat them.
6)  Lose all the score I gained from step 1 in PvP1 trying to make my flying discord or cat/soul catcher decks work.
7)  Browse the forums for deck ideas and to get a feel for the different kinds of contests that are around (still don't understad War).  :)
8)  Notice that my boss has been lurking over my shoulder for the past 30 minutes and decide it might be a good idea to log off and pretend to get some work done.
9)  Rinse and repeat.

General Discussion / Re: Back when you were a noob
« on: May 24, 2011, 05:44:22 pm »
When I first started back when the game first came out, I remember trying to figure out what everyone was talking about using Eternity so you would never deck yourself.  I had no idea that you could use weapons on your own monsters.  Took me way too long to figure that one out.  But then again, I'm still a noob today.  :)

I'm sure he meant Lionheart.  :)
