Philosophy / Re: A truly sadistic choice
« on: July 24, 2011, 04:16:40 am »
1) If by absolute worst nightmare you mean something I'd imagine, but didn't actually experience, I'd choose B. A if it's the worst nightmare I've personally experienced thus far.

2) I doubt that sending hate mail or calling them would make much of a difference since there would be plenty of that anyway, and of course there must already be someone there at their home. The person would probably be dead before I'd get to do anything to them. Additionally, I'd be rather indifferent to the whole affair, since if option B was chosen, nothing would have changed, instead of increasing the suffering of the world beyond the rate at which it is already increasing.

Edit: wouldn't this be more of a masochistic choice rather than sadistic?

Card Ideas and Art / Re: Morton's Demon | Morton's Demon

I like this idea, will definitely vote for it in the Crucible. Could build up some deadly damage with a Colossal Dragon combo.

EDIT: Also, love the idea of naming Demons after great thinkers like Laplace and Descartes...but the name Morton is unfamiliar to me. What did he/she do?
This article discusses confirmation bias, and uses the term "Morton's Demon" (named after the author) to compare it to Maxwell's Demon. (http://www.talkorigins.org/origins/postmonth/feb02.html)

Not sure whether I want to submit it yet...

Would it not be more flavourful to have it attack the highest attack opposing creature it is able to, rather than a random one?
The point is for it to be highly unlikely to kill single creatures in one turn, if you use Adrenaline. Thematically, a cursed sword inspiring madness and bloodlust wouldn't have very great accuracy anyway.

Spend :gravity :gravity :gravity and destroy one of your permanents in order to have a 20% chance of doing what Chaos Seed does for :entropy? What?

The concept of having a creature that you can target (apparently) but the enemy can't is interesting; giving it an alternate death condition and making it fairly useless for its cost is probably the way to go, but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the point of this other than a way to get an invincible Butterfly Effect target.
Both sides can be targeted.

First of all: I really like this card. =D

Question: What happens if you have an hourglass but only one card in hand?

Aren't you able to play this card because there is a chance you can't pay the additional costs? (discarding)

Or do you just toss one coin.

Or do you toss the first coin, if head toss the second if tail effect ends?
Second coin flip does not activate if cost cannot be payed.

Design Theory / Re: Spells: What are they?
« on: July 13, 2011, 04:51:51 am »
Spells shouldn't have to be spoken, as the rules required for identifying spells based on an arbitrary language and different pronunciations seem much too restrictive to beings such as elementals, not to mention that it contradicts the card art / names. (How would you bottle something that requires an incantation to use?) (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-fire/rage-potion-rage-elixir/) How would spell effects even work when called upon? Are they simply programmed to activate whenever a specific set of sounds are produced? How would one even create a spell in the first place?

I think spells are simply knowledge, new techniques where elementals learn to use their resources in different ways. If quanta can be used to call upon a creature or artifact, it can also be used to produce an instantaneous effect.
