Game Suggestions and Feedback / Re: Achievements: Possible or Too much?

Achievements are being done to death, though.
I understand the sentiment. But step back and ask yourself - why are they being done to death? Because players enjoy them. Players want them.

Yes, they're just operant conditioning, as you put it - but that should make it almost a no-brainer to implement them. They're cheap and easy to do; players enjoy them; players will push to get them all and be able to yell "FIRST!" or "MOST!" or "FINALLY!" when they get there. They add another element (pardon the pun) to the never-ending grinding that we face in the game.

And, because of that operant conditioning, new ones can be rolled out fairly often - every week? every month? - without a ton of extra work, and a new batch can be added en masse with a new 1.xx update to reflect the changes and impact of the rollouts. It's also an area where the community can take part, offering suggestions for new achievements, sharing ideas, voting on them, and whatever else they might be able to do.

I like the storyline idea, but I agree that it might be a bit more than Zanz can take on to do it right. Maybe the community could come up with something, save him the work/effort? But, maybe that's the longer-term project/goal and achievements are something that can be added near-term to address a desire a many players.

I've refined the deck a bit now. Much improved win rate; minimal impact on the EM rate.

There's quite a few issues when opening with Excel... just wanted to let you know...
Fair enough. I don't use Excel, just GDocs, so that's not wholly unexpected.

Updated original post with testing stats now. Now time for tweaking it for improvement.

I tossed the thunderstorms in because I kept running into low-powered rushes, and they seemed like a good fix. Now, it seems like a bit of an overreaction to a short-term anomaly in the AI decks that came up. I'm about halfway through a full test and you're right - they're pretty much useless.

I want to finish the test with this setup, just for accuracy, then I will play around with it a bit. I'm thinking of dropping the T'storms and possibly the shockwaves, adding in 1-2 FW, 1 Dragon, and adjusting the pillars/pendulum balance. I end up with enough  :life that the extra dragon could be useful for upping the total damage.

Tossing an adrenaline on a dragon actually does help - it's an extra 4 damage, which can get you a win a turn or 2 quicker.

Duo-Decks / EM-phatic Flying Healbots - unupped

I tried my due diligence and could not find this deck posted. I have to credit Odii Odsen for showing me this trick in a BL match - it was cool enough, I wanted to see if I could build something out of it. In searching after I had built my deck and played around with it a bit, I found this deck (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,27060.0.html)  which is similar, but looks to rely more on the Mitosis mechanics and leans on the upped Animate Weapon. I saw some mentions of it on the Wiki (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-life/druidic-staff-jade-staff/) and a Rainbow version (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/decks/rainbow-decks/adrenaline-healing-deck/) of it on there as well, but since I didn't find an example of this specific approach, I thought I'd post my version here to share.

This has been a really fun deck. I've been coming in with around a 50% EM rate in AI3 and about an 80% win ratio. It has done OK over the last day or 2 in Bronze; got me my first (and only, so far) win in Silver; failed at Gold, Plat and AI4. I have not formally tabulated those numbers; I'm planning on doing my first full deck analysis with this one shortly.

I originally had it set up with FFQ, but it was requiring too much :air and I was starving for  :life too often.

Weaknesses:
  • Shields can be a major impediment. Gravity shield can be a deal-breaker - Owl's Eye helps, since you can drop the HP of your own creatures, though.
  • Reverse Time will make this deck cry. A lot.
  • CC in general is a pain, as you have limited Adrenalines/Flying Weapons, which you don't get back.
  • A really fast rush can beat it (see below, however).
Strengths:
  • It can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat quite often. If you can get the combo out by turn 4 or 5, even a fast rush won't necessarily finish you off. You get 20 healing/turn with 1 flying, juiced staff - enough to give you time to get the others out to play. Seeing yourself get down to 20, 30 life is not a death sentence, as all the healing can overpower the damage and get you back into the game. I've gone from 10 HP left to an EM a few times now.
  • EM's a-plenty. Because it's healing as it's doing damage, if you're at 80HP or above on the final go around, you've got a solid chance of an EM. With all the healing - I'll regularly get 3 combos out there, for 60 healing/turn - you'll almost always be in position for an EM, if you can win.
  • Because the flying Staff gets 7 HP, direct damage on it will not wipe it out easily. The dragons are a nice decoy for the AI, since it will leave the staff(s) alone as soon as you drop a dragon out there.

EDIT:
Just wrapped up testing. I overestimated a bit, it seems. 62% win rate; 36% EM rate for AI3. Not too bad - just not as good as I thought! :)

Here be the stats:
Wins: 31
Losses: 19

I thought this was a good tool, but found myself wanting one slight addition.

I've worked up a cost calculator. So, you enter in the number of cards you need to buy from the bazaar, number of cards you need to upgrade, and it spits out a total cost at the top. Then you've got a number to aim for in your farming to know when you're "done" and have enough to complete the deck you're after.

I don't know how useful it is to the community as a whole. Being new, it's handy for me to know when I'm at the point of being able to buy it all and jump in on trying out a new deck.

Pika had a good suggestion of tying it in with the card tracker that I'm going to try to implement. Any other suggestions/criticisms are welcome!

Achievements would be a nice addition, I think. Maybe that could even be a tourney or league prize - first place, you get to add an achievement to the list!
