Aether / Re: Fractal / Fractal
« on: April 21, 2010, 07:15:28 am »
Okay, I have a few observations on this card.

I started a newbie using Darkness, which has Aether as the second element. I bought Fractal in the bazaar very early, and it's been a huge help.

Opponent is playing a water/death poison-spam deck? Fractal my one minor vampire and out-heal the poison long enough to win.

Opponent is beating me soundly by normal means? Let my devourers and obsidian pillars build up dark quanta, then Fractal my black dragon and lay down 7 of the reptiles in a single turn.

Dragon's already died when Fractal becomes useable? Use it on one of the devourers and then drain life a few turns later.

I've considered using Fractal on an opponent's virus a few times, but decided  it wasn't worth it. Not compared to the flock of black dragons powered by devourers tactic.

It was the live game. I haven't used the trainer yet, nor visited the beta site.

I was on level 5, fighting Masofuze, and used my Aflatoxin card to take out his Graviton Fire-Eater.

But the resulting Malignant Cell refused to die. Twice. When hit with lethal damage (igniting Unstable Gas, both times, courtesy of a Blue Nymph), the expected -1 and death animations happened, but a fresh new Malignant Cell appeared in its' place. As far as I can tell, the Aflatoxin effect that created it remained in the space without any icon.

The other, younger Cells that it spawned died normally to the Gas.

The situation:
I was playing on level 3, against a Fire/Death deck (Fire mark).

He has a 0/1 Vulture, a 10/1 Fire Spirit (infection 1), and a 0/1 Vulture on the field, in that order.

I dropped Rain of Fire. The first two creatures died. The last one went to 0/0 during the animation, then poped into 2/2 rather than dying.

Seems like scavengers can use their skill mid-attack, even when the attack "killed" them, letting them cheat death.

Not quite anything... if the effect used gives Spark a point of defense, it works normally. Anything else kills Spark, even Quintessence.

You can use:
Plate Armor
Momentum
Blessing

on a Spark without killing it.

On the other hand, this bug is handy for producing a Malignant Cell on your turn... Spark, then Aflatoxin, followed by Adrenaline and Quintessence on the Cell before the opponent gets a chance to do anything to it.

No, my point being that in the cases of rare weapons or creatures or spells, the farms generally have no quanta whatsoever of the type that card uses. Meaning that the player never has to face it in battle, and often, faces nothing but boredom as they wait for the farm to deck out.

Zanz... if I might make a suggestion for the next patch...

Tweak the spinner for the Top50 level so that it can only include cards that the deck had enough mana sources to support - and perhaps require at least a minimum number of supported weapons/creatures before a colorless card like shards can appear in the spinner.

I played against a "farm" yesterday that was nothing but pillars and shards. I don't think that's fair to people who work hard to get the rare cards on their own merits.

One serious, serious balance issue with an area attack on your own cards with Aflatoxin... Vultures.

Take this scenario...
You have a field full of malignant cells, plus an immortalized vulture, with boneyard and empathic bond in play too. Boost the defenses of one cell so it can survive, then blast your field with two thunderstorms in the same turn. As much as 42 attack added to the vulture immediately, plus you have new cells popping up for a second round of that in a few turns, assuming your enemy didn't die.

84/85 creature, anyone?

If I remember, Zanz specifically made Gravity Pull negated by Immortality when he put Anubis in, because of Armagio. But I could be mis-remembering.

A combo of Adrenaline and Quintessence on one Malignant Cell worked marvelously for me the one time all the cards popped up close enough to try it. Unfortunately it wasn't early enough in the game for it to save me, but oh well. It did work nicely.

In 1.17, playing against a lvl5 Earth Mark.

He kept putting Plate Armor on creatures despite my having a Gravity Shield up, him having no source of gravity (thus no Momentum), and it started before I got anything out that could eat creatures.

I'm... lost. How does clicking on Eternity by mistake make you deck out sooner?
