Card Idea Competition Submissions / Re: Shard | Shard of Restraint

If there's a problem with the card itself, let's talk about that.  If my view of 'restraint' isn't as virtuous as your view, let's start a topic somewhere else.

Yeah, that's the main strategy.  I'd drop the quantum tower for something else... I should have saved what I had, but I didn't... and this (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,6966.msg82723#msg82723) was the deck I was starting from...

I'm not sure a permafrost would be as good as something with reflect in this deck.  You should be able to control the damage with antimatter.  But I'm pretty sure in what I was messing with I dropped the shield.  I'll mess around some more and post here...

So it will only affect your own creature?
Does it have to?  Is it not virtuous to restrain your attacker?
It is not virtuous to restrain your opponent. To do so is not to live conforming to the moral and ethical principle of restraint but instead to apply law to someone else.
Taxing your opponent (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,11369.msg149718#msg149718) isn't very virtuous either.  I'm sure we could make similar arguments with half of the shards submitted.  I don't think the competition is meant to spark philosophical debate about the level of each shard's virtue.

If you're coming at me with a 6 ATK knife, and I have the option to knock the knife out of your hand, restraining you from attacking me IS virtuous, IMO...  I didn't kill you or mutate you.  I just restrained your attack.  If there's a problem with the card itself, let's talk about that.  If my view of 'restraint' isn't as virtuous as your view, let's start a topic somewhere else.

re·straint   /rɪˈstreɪnt/  Show Spelled[ri-streynt]  Show IPA
–noun
1. a restraining action or influence: freedom from restraint.
2. Sometimes, restraints.  a means of or device for restraining, as a harness for the body.
3. the act of restraining, holding back, controlling, or checking.
4. the state or fact of being restrained; deprivation of liberty; confinement.
5. constraint or reserve in feelings, behavior, etc.

vir·tu·ous   /ˈvɜrtʃuəs/  Show Spelled[vur-choo-uhs]  Show IPA
–adjective
1. conforming to moral and ethical principles; morally excellent; upright: Lead a virtuous life.
2. chaste: a virtuous young person.

For Restraint to be your Virtue it must be your guidelines, not something you inflict on someone else. If you hold affliction on someone else you are making judgement, not holding virtue.

Why do you think your shard holds to the Virtue  of Restraint?
Thanks for the grammar lesson.  Definition #3 is exactly what this card does.  And the idea was to use it on your own creatures more like what Kuroaitou mentioned.

Great for saving a creature with an important ability (Druid, FFQ) against damaging shields when they're immortalized. I like the idea, and the gray shard background probably helps the theme as well. :)
Also, has great synergy with butterfly effect.

So restraining your attack can save your life from a fire shield.  I guess that's how I see it holding to the Virtue  of Restraint.

So should I use the incorrect spelling (upgradable) for the table description, or make a new image... or either?

EDIT: Eh, I opted for the easy way...
