Card Art / Re: Polygons for your art
« on: December 27, 2010, 02:00:01 pm »
ArtCrusade: Thanks :)
crystalmakwer: I use several programs. For organic things (creatures, etc...), I use Zbrush. For mechanical models, texturing, environment, I use 3D Studio MAX, with VRay for lightning and rendering. And Photoshop for composition.

Fractals were made with Apophysis and were also Photoshopped a bit.

Card Art / Polygons for your art (3D Gallery)
« on: December 27, 2010, 12:20:14 pm »
Hi everyone!

As I saw some people opening their galleries here, I thought that it would be interesting to share my own too, so you can post comments and critics. Also, if you want you can request art here. Just one thing about requests: sometimes, I'm inspired. Sometimes, I'm not. And every time I'm inspired, technical issues always get in the way, not to mention laziness...  :P
So, if I say I can't draw art you ask, please don't take it personally.

Things I mostly do:
- Design & mechanicals: buildings, robots, interiors. To summarize, that would be "things mainly made of straight lines and simple curves".

Things I'm having hard times with:
- Organics: lifeforms, natural environments, chaotic things. In short, the opposite of previous definition. I'm working on it, and since Elements art require creatures and many other complex things, maybe I can improve my skills by providing art to the community.

About pictures themselves, it is mostly made from 3D renders made from scratch, with a post-production (lightning & color tuning, special effects,...).

Some things made so far:

2006, May: Mechanics vs Organics
I started 3D before 2006, but that was more for the purpose of learning software, so this is my first real 3D render. I wanted to picture a fight between nanites and viruses in an organic body.

Production:

2006, July: Space procrastination
I tried to create a short scene (a spaceship pursuit), but I dropped project because of time issues. Didn't finished texturing, details, and animation :(

2006, August: Concept time, part. I
After a few weeks of work wasted on previous project, I decided to focus myself on details, like lightning, effects, and ambiance. Big things just takes too much time, so I decided to work on simple models, rather than struggling with 'gigantic but always unfinished' art.

2006, October: I'll do it tomorrow...
Another 'too-bad-I-didn't-finished-it' picture of a bar. Once again, texturing and environment missing...

2007, June: Lightning transition
At that time, I was about to give up on 3D, after having so many days of work simply wasted because of technical issues. Then, the new version of software I use came out, and I decided to give it a last try:

http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/7283/portfolio5.jpg

Then, I finally found a way to create more precise lighting and texturing:

2008, March: Concept time, part. II
A sketch-like render of another unfinished WIP. I wanted to create a futuristic train station, but I lacked the needed time to finish it. But it somehow inspired me later for a smaller subway scene.

2010, November-December: Current business
Another 1-year break, so I began with a simple wallpaper:

Then, I registered here, so here is art I made for Elements cards ideas:

Serie 'Fractals are cool':

Apart from 3D, I began using a fractal software to create various fractals, and I find some of them are funny, and maybe you can use some of them for your cards.

ddevans96: I see. I hope that you can finish it too, so the author will decide about it, and the other art can be used by another card, then?

Kuroaitou: Changes are done. Thanks for comments, I know description is a bit long, but I couldn't think of a shorter one. :)
And yes, this is my first card idea, so let's see how far it can get...

Ok, note for myself:
Edit cards only when own mind is clear :d

Anyway, thank you again for notice, card fixed.

ddevans96: Maybe, but I don't know. Only experience will tell, and I still have available adjustments so if it's OP we could still reduce max speed/raise the cost. About cycle in the bazaar, do you mean :entropy :death :gravity :earth :life :fire :water :light :air :time :darkness :aether (or is it wrong?). I wanted :time to be the 1st Quantum generated (so the 1st speed up could possibly be auto-fuelled), and also I wanted to have opposite elements at opposite directions.

On a sidenote, I made art for the Entangling Roots (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,15093.0.html), and I saw later that you were willing to do it too. Do you have any news from card author ?

Thanks for credit! ;)

Just a few things about the card:
- You forgot the :water sign for the card cost (upper right corner)
- Typo: convertion/conversion (description of card)

On a side-note, I might rework this art later (unless you want to keep it like it), especially the upper part of the temple & fix some lightnings effects. I'll be looking for how the :life Temple looks within a card frame...

Hi,

Since you made it to the forge, I think it's a shame you got no art for this card (and I like the idea).  :-X

So, I tried to make one for you, hopefully you'll like it? Here it is:

Entangling Roots (512x512 picture)

There's a HD version (1024x1024, 2 Mb) available here:

Comments & critics fully welcomed ;)

Ah ok, didn't know this expression.
I'll update description and art, but the cost is supposed to be  :time for both cards.

Anyway, with a max speed of 9, do you think it's ok for Crucible?

Just finished the Life Temple:

Thanks guys ! :)
I don't know if I'll make all the temples (it'll require a lot of time & inspiration), but I almost finished the Life temple (rendering now, only post compositing remain).

wizelsnarf: I use several programs. Zbrush for model sculpting (the main tree), Photoshop for textures, 3D Studio MAX for base model, scenery and rendering (with VRay). Along with a few plugins, too.

Anayway, I'll keep you updated in a few hours, and I'll think of the next temple (maybe Light? or Time?)

Ajit: Thanks :) Almost made from scratch. This scene is actually 3D and I created the pillar a long time ago, but I had to redo the texturing & other models.

Anonymous: I don't know yet. It'll probably will be in accordance with the card name.

I said earlier that I'm gonna work on a Life Temple, and until now, things went better than expected, I'd say. I figured a Life Temple would suit perfectly in a tree, so I decided to make a huge tree, in which there would be an altar or something like that. So far, I made most of the main tree, what I need to do is create the Altar and give the picture a more "forestish" feeling... Also, the tree doesn't feel so big :/

Here is Work In Progress:

:life Temple, missing models, Work in Progress
Hope you enjoy ;)
