Kakerlake 1 - 3 drolly

Picking was a terrible act this time. I must have spent 3 hours altogether for that. And I knew ideal picks wouldn't be possible. The leaderboard looked like this:

Assuming Onizuka gets the win over calindu221.
Onizuka66finished
Vineroz55finished
drolly541 match to play
Absol49finished
annamall47finished
Kakerlake461 match to play
calindu22143finished
The Mormegil401 match to play
Terroking32minus spent ones in R6
Helston181 match to play

See? To win Grid, I have to get at least 13 Relics. If I manage to pick 3 Malignant Cells, I'll have the chance to be at least 3rd. Well, that lead me to the following picks:

A1 - Bone Dragon
B5 - Malignant Cell
C7 - Malignant Cell
D12 - Cloak
E6 - Malignant Cell
F9 - 2 Relics
G2 - 2 Relics
H8 - 2 Relics
I3 - 3 Relics
J4 - Deathstalker
K11 - Momentum
L10 - 3 Relics

Relics spent: 1

I couldn't find better ones and was happy to discover that Kakerlake wanted to rush me, too. Otherwise I would have lost. And now prepare yourself for the most boring match report of all time.

Match 1: Loss

I've tested this a lot of times to ensure the quanta balance was right, yet it took time until I drew the first Unstoppable. Standings at the end: 3 Lycanthropes + 1 Purple Dragon vs. 2 Scorpions + 1 Bone Dragon + 6 poison counters.

We could have tossed a coin as well to decide the winner. 2 Purple Dragons + 1 Lycanthrope vs. 1 Bone Dragon (with Momentum) + 3 Deathstalkers + 24 poison counters.

Match 3: Win

Huh, Kakerlake's taking time between duels? Time to look at my deck. Exchanged 1 Deathstalker for a Bone Pillar due to quanta issues in the last rounds (Purples are coming slightly quicker than Bones, there must be a reason ...). 2 Purple Dragons + 2 Lycanthropes vs. 3 Bone Dragons + 3 Deathstalkers + 14 poison counters. Close shave.

If it hadn't been for my last Dragon ... well, 2 Purple Dragons + 1 Lycanthrope vs. 2 Bone Dragons (with Momentum) + 2 Deathstalkers + 18 poison counters.

::) Er, did I just win Grid? :o If yes, then I can't quite believe it ... I'm definitely not the best player out there ... I just play for fun ... well, winning is great fun, of course. Thanks to all the participants, all of my opponents - every single one gave me good games - and for your support (I'm especially thinking of Absol: You showed me how close I'd come to winning this, giving my motivation an extra boost). And last but not least, to Gyrodiot, of course, for organizing the whole thing. Looking forward to the next Grid!

Well, I guess I should stop playing Elements now. That is, at least for the next 20 hours ... see you all!

Game 1 went as planned. I was fearing Wings because I'm stupid, but in the end I got my shields and killed him. Game 2 he had a creative counter and I was one turn away from killing him but he mindgated three dims and I had 8 cards left.

Saw the aether mark and realised I was probably up against Dim Shields. Oddly enough I knew that Shockwave doing 4 damage instead of Lightning's 5 was going to be a problem for me when I was doing the picks.

Always wanted to try to make a mindgate deck, so when I saw the last grid I figured I might as well have a bit of fun with it. And that I did. Like The Mormegil said, I only just picked up the extra Dim Shields on the last turn before I died.

Unfortunately this seemed the best deck for the rest of the match. I managed to predict The_Mormegil trying to counter the mindgate deck in game 3, but after that he figured out how to beat all my options, and there was nothing I could do except try to outrush his shields.

Thanks Mormegil for the matches =)
